Just updated to windows 8.1 and now I have to put in my live password to login, anyway to change that?

Press Win+R, enter "control userpasswords2", uncheck "users must enter a user name and password", enter your password, and you're done. Remember that this means anyone can get into your account just by rebooting the computer.

Thanks, mate. No one uses my desktop but me, so this is actually pretty great. Logging in all the time was getting annoying.
Nokia's tablet looks very promising. Might have to pick it up alongside my 929. First Windows tablet with 4G LTE and has mostly better specs that the surface 2 rt.
I'm going to reflormat and install windows 8 today, should I hold off on installing drivers until after I upgrade to windows 8.1?
Yesterday for some reason brightness adjustment stopped working on my notebook with 8.1. The only way to change it is to move the slider in Windows Mobility Center and then closing and opening the lid. Did this happen to anybody else?

Try reinstalling your hotkey drivers?
Though for some reason my brightness controls worked out of the box with a fresh install of 8.1.

Excuse my lack of knowledge, but which drivers exactly are those? I've never heard of hotkey ones.

Go to the manufacturer's support page for your laptop, they should have some kind of utility that you can download.
If you have a Samsung there's a patch in swupdate that addresses the brightness error
Huh, well I never much minded Win 8 but 8.1 doesn't really add much relevant to my issues other than the nice "right click start to access stuff" menu.
I don't get why they think people on PCs want more stupid apps though. Yes, let's build in a PDF player, a Facebook app, and something to watch shows that require swapping back and forth rather than having all 3 conveniently located on the taskbar that takes a single click to swap between.
"right click start to access stuff"
didn't it already exist on windows 8?
Does the blue surface type cover get dirty easily?

Seeing as there was no start button on the desktop, I don't think so. It was all in the charm bar before. Unless I completely overlooked something, that is.

Windows 8 had a small hot-corner on the left end of the taskbar that you could click/tap to bring up the Start Screen. If you right-clicked that corner, the power menu would appear.
Win+X is the keyboard shortcut that triggers this menu in Windows 8 / 8.1.
Huh, well damn. Well, aside from that, I don't seem to be affected at all then.
That is, unless snap view can integrate applications that aren't part of the Windows Store service.
Yay Windows updated then i got a 0xc000021a so reinstalling

I want to punch the guy who got rid of safemode from advance startup
Sick & tired of this bullshit, I still can't install 8.1 as it doesn't exist in the store. Nothing works, did they fucking remove it? Running 8 pro.
Luckily I got the 8.1 ISO from MSDNAA.
I didn't have the option for upgrading 8 to 8.1
If you're not having the 8.1 upgrade in the store visible you're probably running a VL (hack)tivated copy of 8. VL copies do not have the store upgrade
Yay, Microsoft released a working fix for the "Secureboot is not configured correctly" watermark:

Works on my desktop.
Anyone else getting a pop up when they turn their volume "too high"? Any way to remove it?

Or they are missing updates, I had to reinstall 8 today, and it wasn't showing, apparently one update wasn't installing correctly

What do you mean? I just cranked my volume to 100 and nothing happened (using my volume slider on my keyboard).

Aren't MSDNAA Windows copies all VL licensed?
Also, VL != Hacktivated.
Windows 8(.1) is gonna break 10% market share next month, and at the current tendency it'll surpass XP in just under 14 months.
Just got Windows 8 (8.1 to be exact) for the first time and it's better than I thought. I thought I was going to hate the start menu but it's actually pretty nice. The UI is also smooth and simple, which is what I love.
Microsoft released updated video drivers for AMD/Intel cards for 8.1 They have fixed my brightness adjustment problem, but Catalyst Control Center is literally empty and I can't do anything in it. Time to revert back to old drivers hoping I'll still be able to change the brightness.

Just tried installing latest beta drivers over the ones mentioned above. CCC works fine, I can adjust the brightness as well. I'm pleased.
The Surface Pro 2 just got a battery life-improving firmware update, so if any of you were on the fence because of that, definitely take a second look at it now: http://anandtech.com/show/7478/microsoft-surface-pro-2-firmware-update-improves-battery-life
25% increase in the web test (putting it at 8+ hours), 16% in video playback. I still think the price is slightly too high (especially here in Denmark), but maybe some of you guys are more loaded than me.
Anyone have issues with Windows 8 machines not staying in sleep mode? My 8.1 machine has been acting up a lot, if I put it to sleep mode it will almost instantly come back on, and quite often shutting down will cause it to restart instantly.
