I got a new laptop with Win8 for Christmas. I really like the start menu (once I reorganized it), and how fast everything boots. I absolutely HATE some of the Windows Integrated apps. Things like Adobe PDF reader and even Windows' own media player were essentially standards of PCs past but Microsoft felt the need to turn away from that with horribly integrated apps. The default PDF reader is awful, doesn't really let you do anything and takes up the entire screen. The default media player is the same. Before, I could just install something and boom everything works with that. Now, everything seems to default to Windows.
I thought Metro apps were supposed to take up the entire screen, unless of course you put two of them side by side. The PDF reader works just fine by me, if I need to refer back to it, I alt+tab to it, but it would be nice to have it in the desktop version too
It's very much possible, but if you want to have Steam games on the SSD, you'll want to familiarize yourself with mklink /j.
Late, but here's a thing to let you create symlinks and others in the context menu: http://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/hardlinkshellext.html
Hmm I'm trying to figure out a way of getting playlists on my start screen. Is there a way of doing it? I've found an application called tile a file but as far as I can tell, playlists aren't stored in some file somewhere that you can open. Is there another app for it, maybe? It's ridiculous that it's not a built in thing, anyway.
Well.. my gmail stopped connecting with the mail app. I guess that's that.
windows blue leaked http://www.engadget.com/2013/03/24/windows-blue-leak/ [editline]24th March 2013[/editline] build 9364 icons still suck new: more personalization options (colors) new pc settings stuff (more options, under construction): skydrive backup resolution changing from metro ui skydrive built-in (if my polish is worth shit) [editline]24th March 2013[/editline] alarms, some movie editor app, sound recorder, and calculator apps [editline]24th March 2013[/editline] smaller tiles like on wp8 [editline]24th March 2013[/editline] 50:50 metro apps
The updated (metro) control panel looks way more useful than it is in 8. [editline]24th March 2013[/editline] Someone needs to create a Windows Blue thread.

With skydrive prices so damn low doing backup that way is a great idea as long as you can encrypt it properly.
made a windows blue thread: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1256188
is office 365 worth the subscription, or should I just buy 2013?
if you use it all the time, buy 2013 if you need it just for a few classes, 365
Don't hotlink, rehost on Imgur.
i made a new thread
if you use it all the time, buy 2013 if you need it just for a few classes, 365
well we were interested in it because it can be used on 5 PCs. My dad uses pretty much the entire office suite, my bro and I are both doing college, one for my desktop, and another for my dads other laptop. But I'm also interested in that SkyDrive and Skype features. Is it true though that you have to be online to use actual office program?

Its always on drm basically.
Know what the best thing about vista was that I miss in the later versions? YOu had the ability to add games to the 'games explorer' and add things to the context menu for that game, it was so fucking useful. Like with skyrim you could have double clicking launch the main game but through a right click you could get access to all the fanmade utilities that skyrim has, it was so useful. Shame in win7 they removed this feature for some reason and in win8 it's really difficult to even get access to the games explorer, not that it matters since I stopped using it back in 2009.
Some of the load times are pretty bad even on an i5 2500K and an SSD, so really, they're needed.
On a Dual Core 5300 and an SSD, they go good for me.
On a Dual Core 5300 and an SSD, they go good for me.
It's more the fact that they aren't instantaneous - I mean the mail app on my HTC Radar opens faster than the one in Windows 8.
It's more the fact that they aren't instantaneous - I mean the mail app on my HTC Radar opens faster than the one in Windows 8.
Well, none of my apps are *instantaneous* because my MoBo bottlenecks the RAM and the SSD, but they're pretty fast nonetheless.
So apparently Windows 8 Store has 50380 apps now. http://www.engadget.com/2013/03/25/windows-store-unofficially-reaches-50000-apps/
http://blogs.windows.com/windows/b/windowsexperience/archive/2013/03/25/the-mail-calendar-and-people-apps-are-getting-better.aspx App updates coming tomorrow.
Well that was a shit update, the calendar app can no longer sync google calendars. When I started the mail app the first time after the update, it asked me to link my google account again because the "old method isn't supported anymore" or something. Now it's not syncing the calendar anymore and a google account isn't even an option in the settings anymore.
Right... Remind me not to update that.
This is due to a change that Google's made or making, not Microsoft.
what are yall talking about? I'm still able to sync my GMail and calendar
