My current specs:

Also a 500w PSU.
I know I need to change my motherboard, but i'm really stuck on what to upgrade to and i'm also confused on what processor to upgrade to.
I'm not that fussed on Intel vs. AMD, but I think for pricing, it's best to have AMD?
I would also like to upgrade to 8gb of RAM, and wonder if it matters having 2 different brands of RAM as i was thinking about buying this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-086-OC&utm_source=froogle
NOTE: I USE PHOTOSHOP ALOT, AND PLAN TO START USING DAWS SO PLEASE DON'T QUESTION ME ON WHY I WANT THIS
Budget?
Budget?
£120?
Also, any info on the RAM question i had?
Stick with 4 gigs of ram. No need to upgrade also here is the cpu

You will probably just have to flash your bios to get it to work.

Why is there no need to upgrade my RAM?
And they're is a need to upgrade my motherboard because it can't support that CPU.

There is no performance boost between 4 gigs of ram and 8.

Also mobo

I would upgrade that Ram because it is running at 376 MHz, Get some that is running at least 1066 MHz,

DDR2, DD= Double data rate that means you double the rate so that is 800 mhz ram.
Still, theres a big performance jump from 800mhz to 1066 mhz
Is the RAM compatible then? and won't cause any issues with the other RAM?
It shouldn't but if you upgrade your Motherboard you will need to probably get DDR3
[editline]07:34PM[/editline]
Most AM3 sockets use DDR3
[editline]07:35PM[/editline]
If your BIOS can support a AM3 processor you can use it in it, but for a performance drop

No, there's almost none.

What about an AM2+ Mobo? http://www.kikatek.com/product_info.php?products_id=94082&source=froogle
What about an AM2+ Mobo?
You can still use AM3, but still a performance drop if you use an AM3 processor in it, and you might have to flash the BIOS if it isn't supported already
[editline]07:57PM[/editline]
It can use DDR2 Ram
That's what i was saying. You said that most AM3 Sockets use DDR3, I checked that assumption and it was right, so I said "What about am2+?" because the majority use DDR2 and It can support Quad Cores.
Yeah, but if you can go AM3 it has more potential for the future
Yeah but then i'd have to update all my RAM to DDR3 surely?
Yah all the ram would have to be DDR3
If you can, go for it, but AM2+ is still ok
Still, theres a big performance jump from 800mhz to 1066 mhz
There is a big difference from 667Mhz to 800 Mhz not from 800Mhz to 1066Mhz.

Think i'll go for AM2+ thanks.
