I'd love to participate if it was, although I'd have a very small span of time where I'll be home with the computer to actually be able to do anything... Unless this competition lasts until Christmas time.
How about calculating the winner by stock clock - underclock=

Not fair. People with a Pentium 4 would win - they have further to underclock.
Better idea would be (underclock / stock clock). Highest would win.
Or we can have a slowest computer and underclocking contest.
most mismatched hardware. I got a pentium III rig with an 8400GS sitting next to me here

I can beat that. I could slap a Rage Pro in a Phenom II X3 machine.

Come on Voodoo was what you needed back then.
Come on Voodoo was what you needed back then.
I can't find my Voodoo card.
I might also slap my ancient hard drive in it. A fearsome SIX GIGABYTES OF STORAGE. If it still works, it should still have my Windows XP/OpenBSD 3.6 dual-boot on it.
an under-clocking competition sounds alright to me, but you'd have to make some sort of system requirements.
and look at what these guys did http://www.winhistory.de/more/386/xpmini_eng.htm
Underclocking for the win? :3

where would you get an AM3 motherboard with an AGP slot? unless you're talking one of the PCI rage pros

It's PCI. ATI Rage 128 GL, I think. Came from a PowerMac G3 someone left out.
I can't remember my old PC-s motherboard, but that isn't compatible with my GPU. NFS Carbon should run on my 64MB Video card (Nvidia MX440, beat this! wait, my friend has nVidia TNT2 )
But I read from somewhere ( NFS Carbon CD case? ) that it isn't compatible with MX Series and [motherboard model here]
I HAVE A FANTASTIC IDEA
Whoever can make the coolest external hard drive enclosure. I have a USB and AC to SATA conversion board and cables that can be used to turn the 250GB prize drive into an external. I'll be sure and give dimensions of the drive and board. Whoever makes the coolest case wins a drive to put inside it.
That would be an interesting competition.
I don't have an external enclosure; Only way I'd go with is using a long sata cable and a power supply going into the home-made enclosure. What if we could use an unboxed motherboard nearby to hook up a hard drive? I think that'd be ultra flexible.

It's like, a USB mod but bigger.

You didn't read my post. I have all the hardware needed to turn an internal drive to an external. All you have to do is make your own enclosure.
And if you don't have access to spare wood/plastic/glue/nails/anything of that nature, then you're not trying hard enough.

Why would you make it with those silly materials? Gotta be creative lmao
Steal alot of nails from your shcool workshop and glue them together, Tadaa, you got a external HDD case :v:
As long as it looks cool.
PUT SOME FLAMES ON IT YEAH

ahh rate me bad reading. I've already got some ideas, this'll be very fun

Too bad the bad reading rating is gone.
What about the noisiest case competition? You know people can get creative and do more than just up their fan speed, and points can be awarded for creativeness. Ideally the judgement would be based on a sound pressure meter, but since that is impossible, other points can be given to number of different sounds (not simply the whine of the fans), how stable and quiet the case looks compared to the noise it makes etc...?

My old PC makes assloads of noise, compared to the one I am using. But I am sure that there are louder ones too.
What if I glue a piece of cardboard to a fan and make it collide with something every time fan rotates? It is like a motorcycle :downs:

That's one of the ideas I thought, you can try adding small wind chimes etc... somehow if you have the case space as well. And whats with the downs, since the aim is to make noise what's stupid about sticking a card to the fan?

What's to stop someone from putting a sound system inside the PC?
Doesn't really sound like a fun competition to me, just a lot of putting crap inside fans, spinning up drives, and doing "cat /dev/random" to get a shitload of beeping.
Who makes the best sound system WITH HARD DRIVES!
Check out some youtube videos about HDD speakers.

I feel like that's specific to your situation and talents. Sound is a no go because a video can be edited to have all sorts of janky sounds.
"LOLOLOL MY HARD DISC SOUNDS LIEK A ZEBRA"
So basically we could make a sexy case and then you give us a drive and ac converter board and shit
