You can make it look like this:

By doing this:
1. Rightclick on your taskbar
2. Goto properties
3. Check "Use small icons"
4. Set "Taskbar buttons" (or something like that) to "Combine when taskbar is full".
Here's a pic:

Sorry, it's in Dutch. But you get the idea.
The "spending endless blocks of time configuring the OS to fit my specifications" was referring to linux.
You're right, I was wrong - he wasn't making specific reference to Windows there. Even less opinions of his grounded in fact.
Try reading an article before you criticize it.
The article has soem baseless accusations in it, but it isn't nearly as bad as you made it out to be.
Because I misread part of the article I didn't read any of it? It's pretty much all baseless or unexplained statements. Especially the whole reason for switching to Snow Leopard:
Unsurprisingly, Vista was the tipping point that triggered a mind-altering epiphany.Like many others, I began to question the future of Windows as an OS of choice
I'm sure anyone can give me a list of negatives about Vista, but this guy is trying to build credibility and an argument for why we should ditch Windows in favour of Snow Leopard, he's not convincing me with absolutely no reasons at all and vague statements.
I guess 'it isn't nearly as bad as you made it out to be' is based on individual perspective. Seeings as in my original post I said the article was vauge and baseless, and you concede that 'The article has soem baseless accusations in it'. I also made a throwaway statement suggesting the author is either a mac user or an anti-windows user, which is pretty clear from reading his 'hear me out' introduction. Then there was the spending time configuring unix which I misread and which you've already corrected me on.
Aside from that, about the most exaggerated statement I made was 'If you can make it through the article without raging (even slightly), you're a better man than me' - which must be where I made the article out to be worse than it was (since we both agree the article is vague and baseless in parts), fair enough - I wasn't entirely serious when I said that - just like I hope the author of the article wasn't entirely serious when he called Steve Jobs 'Saint Stephen Jobs'.
It's not even like his points aren't valid, he just doesn't explain them.
And that's part of the problem. Part of the negative reputation Vista has gained is based on people basing opinions which are based on other people's opinions - I've spoken to people in the past about computers and say Vista's shit, yet they can't elaborate why, because often they haven't necessarily experienced anything too bad (aside from perhaps being bugged by UAC as any Vista user will have), but rather they're adopting other people's perspectives of it. Vague, baseless articles and statements like this perpetuate the negative image Vista has. I'm not saying Vista doesn't deserve criticism, but the criticism it receives is disproportionate to how bad it actually is.
Also I'd add that I think some of his points are indeed invalid.
In hindsight, I probably did make it out to be worse than it was, but it's still a totally unnecessary article. It seems to be slapped together quickly to piggy-back off the Windows 7 launch. If this article has been in the pipeline for any longer, I'm pretty disappointed by this supposed tech journalism.
</long wall of text>
Anyway in an effort to steer this back on topic, Windows 7 came out in Australia today (it's 10:00PM over here), I haven't picked it up yet as I just installed the RC on my desktop. In America University/College students can get Windows 7 for $30, does anyone know if there's any similar academic discount for Australians? It's a shame I'm not majoring in ICT, because then I'd get a free copy of Windows 7...
I'll pick it up in the next few weeks... Probably.

Is the t-shirt done already? You have a spelling mistake in "massive" there.

What's in for me when upgrading from RC1 to full?
What's in for me when upgrading from RC1 to full?
You have an older build (RC1 is 7100, the RTM/Retail is 7600), and the RC will stop working somewhere around June 2010.
What's in for me when upgrading from RC1 to full?
It fixes a good amount of bugs.
I preordered mine from Newegg a while ago. Is there a reason why it isn't here? Or did they just ship it today?

By making a bunch of new windows.
They're windows, not tabs.
Is there are way to create your own jumplists? I'm currently using a quicklaunch bar, but I'd rather use a jumplist. It would be great if you could do it without using third-party software like this one.
I find it frustrating how much I'm going to have to backup. First I'm removing unused shit, then I back everything else up before installing Windows 7. Christ, tomorrow's gonna be a savior for me.

The plot thickens.
I celebrated Windows 7 released by buying a Macbook pro. i'm not kidding.

Upgrading to the RTM from the RC fixed ALL the bugs I had with the RC.
Can you describe some of the bugs fixed, I'm thinking of switching to full.

How do you explain how the Steam windows are all joined together?

Anyone else using an HD 48xx? Windows Update keeps trying to install a driver update, gives me version 8.632 even though I already have 8.650. Same thing with my Realtek ethernet, I have an optional update that gives me older drivers.

thats what it does instead of grouping together when you tell it not to group.
Considering getting this for a early xmas, is it worth upgrading to after being on vista (while also loving vista to pieces)?
I loved the RC, but after awhile i got tired of having things grouped together.
I guess I should?
[editline]05:37PM[/editline]
Also if I were to upgrade which version should I get? I was thinking Ultimate for seeing as I have ultimate for vista now and the feature set is pretty cool, but home premium has a 3 deal for $150 for a upgrade and doesn't include many advanced features.
choices choices choices!
Just get Home Premium, unless there is something specific that you have to have in one of the more expensive editions there is no point.
I guess I should, thanks.

I know that, I was just wondering if W7 was offering older drivers to other people.
