Yeah I think it's 10. And MSDN lets you get 10 keys. So you can do 100 computers if you use all 10 keys.
That's great news, then. I have four keys that a friend gave me, so I suppose I have 40 copies of Windows 7 Ultimate.
A value of $12,800. :D
Got a HD4870, not had one offered to me yet.
okay i have i question, my laptop doesn't support aero, am i going to be missing anything really special?
Windows 7 hates me already.
It created a 100mb partition for "System resources" or something, and I totally don't want it. I'll just nuke it in Gparted in a bit.
Also, the installer seems to be as slow or slower than Vista. It took 10 minutes to hit the welcome screen, and another 10 to get to the next screen. :/
[editline]04:46PM[/editline]
It wants me to make a password hint too? God I hate password hints.

Oh no, not 100 megabytes. :downs:
Suck it up, muffin.
Time to be a manly nerd.
Hmm. So Windows installed some driver for my network adapter, and then my network died right after installing it. I guess it really wants me to reboot, even though I really don't want to.
The small 200MB partition actually holds Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE), which only available from DVD installation disc in previous operating system such as Windows Vista (see how to launch WinRE on DVD). The partition holds system files and bootable files that are essential to boot the Windows 7 properly in the event of the need to recover the OS in the event of corruption. The 200MB partition is pretty much similar to many recovery partition that been made on factory installation by most OEMs on the computer they sold.
Why would you want to remove it?
I need more Pins Available. I can only use 5 apparently.
The only thing which I hate about windows 7, is when Something crashes, and I try to end it's process while it's crashing, the bloody process won't end. It's so annoying.

I don't suspect Windows will corrupt itself. Well, it is Microsoft so anything is possible.
[editline]05:36PM[/editline]
Also, I have an 80gb drive for Win7, and it takes up 15gb for just a fresh install with nothing else. I want that extra 100mb.
PvtCupcakes, great thread shitting right now.

Password hint? Seriously? Is that really a Windows flaw you're going to bitch about?
I give you an overall score of 10/10.

If you hate Microsoft so much, spare us the bitching and don't bother installing Windows 7.
I just got it and it's really good.
I was stuck on XP for about 2-4 years and so far, nothing bad's happened. All things are compatible with it aswell. The new toolbar is a lot different from the old one. I just like the fancy feel of it. :v:

It's because Windows Error Reporting is keeping the process open while it generates an error report. Kill WerFault.exe and the process will close.

It's the recovery tools. Basically a WinPE installed to disk so you don't need the CD if you ever come into trouble.
It's the recovery tools. Basically a WinPE installed to disk so you don't need the CD if you ever come into trouble.
And it has the BOOTMGR; found that out the hard way. :rolleye:
The workaround I found is to create the partition before running the Win7 installer. Then it has no place to put that 100mb partition.
[editline]07:33PM[/editline]
So I created a new NTFS partition using Gparted, and now Windows refuses to install to it.
I get this error message:
"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure the disk is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."
There is no option that says "I'll take care of it bitch; I know what I'm doing."
[editline]07:34PM[/editline]
This is the same disk it was installed to earlier, the only difference is that I left no room for it's retarded 100mb partition. Brb, getting my Windows 2000 cd.

That's the most retarded reason for not using Windows 7 that I can think of.

Did you flag the partition as bootable in GParted?
Did you flag the partition as bootable in GParted?
Nope. That's probably it. I'll have to try it.
I just finished installing Windows 2000 Advanced Server, but it's been crippled by MS by not supporting .net 3. Thats the only downside to it.
[editline]08:13PM[/editline]
However, I didn't touch the partition and Windows 2000 didn't mind that it wasn't bootable.
Because it won't install?
Because you're bothered by an extra partition which is less than 1% of the total size of the Windows installation and actually serves a useful purpose.
Also, I remember once asking somebody in this thread how many computers each MSDN key allowed. The answer was one.
I've installed like five computers with one key, so I'm going to go ahead and assume it allows 10 computers per key.
That was probably me, and I answered 1 because it's the only legal answer. You can, of course, activate it on a lot of computers, but the license explicitly disallows it.

How about you stop dicking around with foreign ways to install Windows 7 and then coming to us bitching because it doesn't work? Just install it, for fuck's sakes. The 100MB partition is hidden anyway and it's only 100MB.

Well, are they going to do something about it if I continue to install 7 on more computers with one key?

Didn't work. I set it as bootable, and Windows is still throwing a fit.

How is it foreign that I want to be the one controlling my PC?
Stallman was right. :tinfoil:

What if Windows is storing my bank information and credit card numbers in that hidden partition that nobody but Microsoft can see. :tinfoil:

Yes, that's exactly what's happening. Trolling is a great way to convince Windows users to switch to Linux.
Well, are they going to do something about it if I continue to install 7 on more computers with one key?
Well they won't order S.W.A.T. to raid your house, but I think the same "hardware point" system applies as with XP; That is, after a few activations on different hardware, Microsoft decides you crossed a certain threshold and you have to call them for activation.
However, I'm not sure if this is still accurate and exactly how it works, so you should be able to activate a few times - Just don't go crazy with it.

I see. Yeah, I'm not going to start my business or anything. I'd imagine around two or three computers per key, and I suppose that should be fine.
