I'm downloading the Windows 7 Home Premium installer from windows. Won't that allow me to install it?

Yes, as long as you have a Home Premium key.
AFAIK, all the DVDs are the same, you use a different key to unlock the different version.
The x86 and amd64 dvds are different though.

Pay Microsoft 100 and you can have ultimate. But I am assuming that you think that's not worth it and expensive.
I think so too.

To downgrade you need to reinstall windows. I had to do the same thing. You can install Win 7 from a USB drive though if you have a big enough drive
God damn I love my MSDN subscription. It's awesome.

Same, except TechNet for me :buddy: There's so much available it was hard choosing what to download first.

Yes. You can mount it and install it there. You don't need it once it reboots.

I know I just got it yesterday but there is so much stuff I want to try out now.

Where did the "Move" option go. :geno:
And minimize/maximaze/close?
The reason I ask is because my Pidgin buddy list spawned with the title bar off screen so I had no way of moving it. It would be really nice if I could just hold Alt and drag a window from any point I choose.
[editline]06:05PM[/editline]
Also, Windows won't let me put windows in between my buddy list and my conversation windows on the taskbar. If I try dragging the Buddy List to someplace else, it takes the conversation windows with it. Way lame.
Shift + rightclick on the icon on the taskbar?
Shift+Right click. They moved the standard right click to the window preview (thumbnails etc) so you can access the jumplist from the Taskband and the context menu from the TaskbandExtendedUI
Just Clean installed windows 7 on a new drive 1tb. I had some files already on the drive, i thought that it would just over write them when i did a clean install but it kept the files on the drive.

I don't know if this is a new feature, and I find it pretty neat that Steam now has the Windows 7 Jump List feature.

Holy shit I didn't notice that. That's awesome :D
I just downloaded that Steam update, had to force it after a couple crashes :(
The jump list for it is very handy. Thanks for the heads up Plastical.
My steam didn't update :frown:
Never mind, new update available :v:
How come it doesn't say anything about Windows 7
This jump list is awesome!
I pity XP and Vista users who don't have it. :smug:
Don't know if someone's already mentioned this but..

It's great that devs are beginning to utilize these things now it's actually released.
Holy ass, this be bitchin'.
Can I run Linux off of Windows 7? NOOO HAHAHA!
Yes, actually you can.

Lol, that cracks me up. I like it.
Does Win7 have this useless and annoying mfmp.exe thing for DRMed music too?
Haven't seen it pop up yet.

A quick search in C:\ didn't turn up mfmp.exe, so unless they renamed it no.

Lawl wut?
EDIT: So anyways, I'm getting this laptop in the mail that comes with Windows 7 Home Premium, should I be stoked? I was thinking, "Oh yeah, I'm going to have an awesome laptop with an awesome graphics card and memory and such" but then I got to thinking about how some games might not be 7 compatible, should I be worried?

Oh oh, question! Do you think it might do that for compiling, loading or something around those lines? Or are we going to have to keep watching our Hammer maps compiling at -400 mph?
Hey, I'm asking reasonable questions here, I haven't seen anyone run any games off of steam through Windows 7 yet.
There, installed Windows 7 now. It's so cleeaaann
I had problems with the installation first though. I installed Windows 7 via the disc in Windows Vista and I selected custom and everything but my HDD was not formatted, which sucks.
So I did it BIOS style instead and I got to some format options and all so it's all good now
