I've got a question. I've been thinking of getting windows 7, right now I have windows XP. I've been reading that I need an external hard drive to upgrade my windows xp to windows 7 to copy over all my files and etc. But is this all needed. Can i just go on with the clean install and then when it's finished reinstall everything i had before from scratch?

You don't need to do it to perform a clean install.

Well, damn. I can just say i FUCKING LOVE WINDOWS 7. I used to be this die-hard XP fan.....but Windows 7 is much, much better. Vista wasn't as horrible as it was put out to be, but it was pretty bad.. it couldn't ever run on the computer I'm using now. I've tried, ahahaah. Windows 7 runs perfectly fine on this computer exception of like, glass effects because I need a new graphics card. Ummm...Dell Dimension 2400..specs are - 2.66GHz Pentium 4 2.0 GB PC2700 RAM Intel 845G Chipset fffffff Lack of Aero affects isn't too horrible though. Overall a great OS. I love the new taskbar, too. It's sexy ohhoho. /shot It's a good thing I have a 500 GB external hard drive considering I installed Windows 7 on an 80 gig thinking it seriously wouldn't run properly on such an outdated/obsolete computer. Oh Microsoft, you're awesome.
reason why vista wont run on your machine. and why so many people were like "AMG VISTA SUCKS ITS SLOW"
Yeah I thought it was the processor. It runs perfectly fine on my father's computer. He has a ...Pentium 4 3.66GHz HT I think. Not sure and too lazy to go check.
Yeah I thought it was the processor. It runs perfectly fine on my father's computer. He has a ...Pentium 4 3.66GHz HT I think.
It's still Vista, just optimized.
Yes, they pressed the "OPTIMIZE!!!" button the fanboys seem to cherish so much. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Features_new_to_Windows_7
It's still Vista, just optimized. 15.6 in. widescreen Intel Celeron 900 2.2 GHZ 3GB RAM Intel X4500HD Graphics Plays HL2 at about 40fps on medium, though. For $350 it's not bad.
Actually it's XP with Vista skins. They optimized the XP code and improved on it heavily and gave it the Vista look. remember, they tossed Vista right out the window and went back to the very operating system they were trying to beat.

Umm, let me go run down and check the specs since no one's hogging up that computer (AKA my dumb as fuck mother who never listens to me when I say that watching movies online still counts as piracy and never lets me maintain the PC like my father asks because she's watching her shit. Thank god Vista has scheduled defrags. :I /off topic) Yeah, I got the processor right. And he has 4 gigs of RAM. I think it's PC3200, but I'm not exactly sure. I was booted off so I was unable to check. :I Both of our graphics chipsets are unable to handle Aero though. fff edit
Actually it's XP with Vista skins.
WHAAAAAAT. This isn't even Vista's skins. :I It's 7's own GUI but has some resemblance to Vista. Btw, what you said is called Windowsblinds thar.
Don't talk if you don't know what you are talking about.
That's what my computer guy told me. He's pretty good with computers and actually knows quite a bit about them, I would assume he would know what he's talking about.
Turns out he doesn't know what he's talking about at all.
That's what my computer guy told me. He's pretty good with computers and actually knows quite a bit about them, I would assume he would know what he's talking about.
Then why the FUCK would he call it Windows XP with a Vista skin?
Then why the FUCK would he call it Windows XP with a Vista skin?
because he read it on youtube and everyone knows people on youtube know what they're talking about

Anyone else seeing chkdsk run at every boot? For some reason almost everytime I reboot chkdsk scans my D: drive. It never finds anything wrong with the drive either. I suspect Steam because it's the only program I have that runs from D:.

I just kept canceling and eventually it fucked off. [editline]01:16AM[/editline]
I don't see the point of the argument here. So 7 is just Vista with all the bloat gone?
Nope. Do you let it run?
I did at first, but now I just skip it. Running chkdsk from within windows fixes it temporarily (clears the dirty flag on the drive) and is much faster than letting it run at boot. There was nothing wrong with vista other than the bloat.
That's what i was trying to get across. Vista was not terrible and in every goddamn place I keep going to I see "Oh vista was shit but 7 is so much better!". The truth is that 7 deep down is still vista. This isn't bad at all, but most people ignore this fact and think that vista and 7 are complete unrelated. Windows 7 used to run piggybacked on vista a while back, there's no denying that they are connected.
Windows 7 still runs piggyback on WinNT 3.1
Windows 7 still runs piggyback on WinNT 3.1
I mean you had to have one installed before the other.
I mean you had to have one installed before the other.
No you don't.
No you don't.
I believe he's referring to the first milestone http://www.tgdaily.com/software-features/35936-windows-7-m1-nothing-to-get-excited-about
I was able to obtain a Windows 7 M1 DVD image (2.7 GB in size) to create the disk necessary for install. This M1 version actually is not a standalone Windows version, but requires Vista as a foundation.
It's funny seeing that they suspected Windows 7 to RTM in 2011.
Will taking the steamapps folder I have in XP and just copying it over to Windows 7 64-bit work? [editline]05:21PM[/editline] I am guessing no but it is worth the question.
Alright, question. I have Win7 Home Premium 64 bit on my computer right now. I just did a fresh install, and don't have a product key. If I order the Home Premium 64 bit OEM from Newegg, can I just put the product key in and activate this copy of Windows? Or am I going to have to reformat?
