I only have one little problem with Windows 7 and that is that Garry's Mod has a blank desktop icon ( other Source games have no trouble ).
Oh man. I'm excited. I wish the official release date would just happen now!
In the RTM, does the games explorer display custom icons rather than the exe icon, which is low res and looks like shit? I'm using the RC and along with the aforementioned problem, it also takes about 3 seconds to load, rather than 0 in vista, and the right click menu is missing a 'Customize' option, which I found really useful for collating trainers and walkthroughs to each game, despite the fact that I would never use either. :ninja:
Even I wouldn't put windows on that thing.
Well I bought the XP version so apparently Asus disagree.
Asus pushing what shouldn't be!
TinyXP! Pretty useful for older machines.
It's a netbook. Hardly classifies as an "older machine". It's probably one of the EEEpc models with one of those 4GB mini pci-e SSDs. For that, XP is fine. TinyXP might even be better, as long as all his hardware worked with it. It's worth a try for saving harddrive space.

I could buy an additional SSD for my 901, since mine has the ZIF connector intact, but fuck that. Win 7 is nice, but I'm not gonna pay £60 just to buy a hard drive which is too big for it to senselessly waste.
vLite the fuck out of a Windows 7 RTM ISO, and you get a lightweigh windows 7 installation.
Scroll up stupid. Win 7 (and Vista for that matter) both eat space as time goes by for no raisin, even with system restore and such off. I started with 500MB free or something on my netbook, and it turned into 5MB free. CCleaner had nothing it could delete, and no programs were installed/removed during this period. It is silly.

Nothing came up on WU
perhaps updates are to blame..?
It's probably due to winsxs, which keeps copies of various dll files to maintain compatibility with older applications. It normally eats up several gigs and is non-removable because it's a critical system component.

I installed both, but none of them appear on the games explorer. [editline]06:24PM[/editline]
Steam Assistance
Ooh, that's neat. I'll try it out when I get home. Are there any settings I can edit to let me keep my gorgeous custom icons in the games explorer for icons I add myself? It looks like shit otherwise. I guess I can deal with the loss of the cusomize menu.
I figure I'd ask, even though I think I've done most things already... Any tweaks to make Windows 7 run smoother? I've disabled Windows Defender, have Microsoft Security Essentials as my protection (it caught Conficker the other day off the fucking school PCs...idiotic IT guys). Just figured maybe there would be something I haven't done. Also...is there a way to make installations use less memory? When I install a game or something, my PC is completely unusable...it takes up every kb of RAM in my PC. Any way around this, or way to limit it? I don't want to play Crysis while installing GTA IV, but I'd like to be able to browse the web. I have 4gb of DDR2800, so I wouldn't think I have too little. Vista and 7 just seem to love to take the ram for that alone however. Another- has anybody ever used that thing called Gamebooster? Free program that is supposed to kill processes and shit to make games run better- does it work?

Do I need Vista to have Windows 7? One of my friends reckon I do, but I can't find anything saying otherwise, or agreeing....
no
Do I need Vista to have Windows 7? One of my friends reckon I do, but I can't find anything saying otherwise, or agreeing....
Tell your friend he is stupid. It's a new OS.
Tell your friend he is stupid. It's a new OS.
Yessir. Will do sah!
I posted this in the first thread a while back but... If your school is part of the MSDNAA (check here: http://www.msdnaa.net/search/schoolsearch.aspx) and you have a major dealing with computers or IT, you can get W7 Pro x64 and x86 for free.
Fuck yes. After 3 days of searching I now have Win 7 prof for free. Only problem is I'm running Ultimate right now so I need to reinstall.
I just noticed, the stock gadget is gone! Wonder why they pulled it, I used it.
Steam Assistance
Give this man 's! This makes adding Steam games to the game explorer much easier.
I just noticed, the stock gadget is gone! Wonder why they pulled it, I used it.
Apparently not as you JUST NOW noticed.
Apparently not as you JUST NOW noticed.
That is true :v:
