Fix fonts (FP) HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop FontSmoothing = 2 FontSmoothingType = 3
Fix worked for a while, but now it's back. And I haven't even restarted/logged off/etc
Am I able to buy and use the OEM version? I don't have enough cash for full retail.
Fix worked for a while, but now it's back. And I haven't even restarted/logged off/etc
If you've changed cleartype at all it'll revert back to the way it's supposed to be. It'd be better if we asked Garry to look into it as this is the only site (reported) to have this problem.

But yeah this site should be tweaked rather than everyone's Windows 7.
Am I able to buy and use the OEM version? I don't have enough cash for full retail.
Yes, it will work fine.
I got Windows 7 for Christmas and I can't use it because it only works if you have XP or Vista installed. [editline]04:18PM[/editline] How do they expect people to switch operating systems?

But you can do the double install method to get around having the upgrade edition.
Well then apparently the upgrade version is the only one in the student deal? I wasn't given that option.
Anyone else here using the classic theme? :v:
Well then apparently the upgrade version is the only one in the student deal? I wasn't given that option.
Yes, the student deal only gives you a upgrade copy of Windows 7. You can still do the double install method to get around ti though (google it). It's alright, my friend is letting me borrow his copy of XP tonight. Thanks anyway.
Double installing Windows 7 would probably take less time than installing XP and then 7.
I don't understand, it seems to require you to insert the disk while already inside windows. How can you do that if I don't have windows installed?
I don't understand, it seems to require you to insert the disk while already inside windows. How can you do that if I don't have windows installed?
You have the Windows 7 burned to a disk right? When you are turning your computer on look for the option that says "boot menu" then select your CD drive. Pretty self explanatory from there.
I don't understand, it seems to require you to insert the disk while already inside windows. How can you do that if I don't have windows installed?
That's only if you're upgrading, to do a clean (custom) install you have to boot from the disc.
That contradicts what I actually want to do. You see, my computer has no OS on it right now. I want to install W7 on it, but I can't because it is an upgrade version. So then you told me to try doing a double install, but in those instructions, I am told to insert the CD while inside windows. If I put the CD in and do a clean install (I did that as soon as I got the CD, on christmas), the key doesn't work because I have no previous version of Windows installed.
Which iirc there should be some option to do a trial version for some period.
Eh? The fix seems to be permanent for me. [editline]01:36PM[/editline]
wat.
What about it?
I'm saying if you fix it in the registry and some time later run the ClearType tuner or something it'll be artifacted on FP again.
Ah I see, bad reading on my part.
wat.
Defender does that for a lot of files, perfectly normal.
Yeah I just got it working. There is no option to leave out the key, you just don't enter one. [editline]09:04PM[/editline] So do I need to install it again? I'm in Windows 7 now but I haven't entered the key.
Search Activate in the Start Menu. Click on Activate Windows.
He can't activate it yet with an Upgrade key. nos217 either do this:
Open regedit.exe with Start Menu Search and navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Setup/OOBE/ Change MediaBootInstall from "1" to "0". (Double-click it and then enter 0 in the dialog that appears.) Close RegEdit. Open the Start Menu again and type cmd in Start Menu search to display a shortcut to the Command Line utility. Right-click this shortcut and choose "Run as administrator." Handle the UAC prompt. In the command line window, type: slmgr /rearm Then tap ENTER and wait for the "Command completed successfully" dialog. Then, close the command line window and reboot. When Windows 7 reboots, run the Activate Windows utility, type in your product key and activate windows. If it works, you're all set. You're done. Congratulations.
or perform the upgrade from within Windows and use your key then. Or you could custom install again and use your key, as long as the setup detects a version of Windows present then it will work.
I've installed Windows 7 today, and it doesn't recognize my headphones and speakers. It says that they aren't plugged in,when they are obviously plugged in. Sound drivers are up to date too. Anyone know solution to this?
Doesn't anyone know how to fix the wallpaper-compression problem? D:
Doesn't anyone know how to fix the wallpaper-compression problem? D:
Yeah, use jpegs with 100% quality.
Doesn't anyone know how to fix the wallpaper-compression problem? D:
http://www.windows7taskforce.com/view/214 Apparently 7 converts PNGs to JPG when you set as wallpaper. Possible partial solution:
This isn't always true, at least in Vista (I haven't tried 7): if you right-click on a file and choose "Set as Desktop Background," it will convert it to JPG - but if you go to Personalize, Desktop Background, and select a BMP from there, it will display the original image without converting to JPG - I took screenshots and zoomed in to verify. (BMP and JPG are the only file types it will display - if you try to select a PNG or TIFF, it says the format is not supported.)
My copy of 7 just arrived and I installed it. That was the quickest install of Windows I've ever been through. Took 11-12 minutes from boot to desk. Cooliosis.
