Because I don't like it. I hate transparency on my windows and win classic theme or the one without aero looks meh.
Oh and, for performance reasons.
You could turn the opacity up to max:

Or just disable transparency
Yeah, only problem I can't get it darker. The darkest I can get is gray.

Turn the brightness down:

Looks rather ugly :(
I've had windows 7 ultimate for a few months now. And i'm bored with the new look icons for the taskbar. Is there any way to revert to the old vista/XP style?
EDIT: Found it.
Looks rather ugly :(
Well unfortunately it might be the best you can get, most Vista and 7 themes I've seen go all out on transparency. Try playing around with the color settings, maybe you'll find something you like.

Also try deviantart for W7 themes.

I just tried with the theme I use, and it looked pretty good like that.

Skin.

1: Download uxstyle and install normally. http://www.uxstyle.com/
2: Download the skin.
3: Extract skin.
4: If you want the start button, take ownership (google if you don't know how) of explorer.exe, and replace with the one in the folder called "Resources" (In the extracted file, select correct architecture).
Skip this step if you want the default start button.
5: In the extracted skin folder, copy the theme file, and the folder called clsSharp, into "C:\Windows\Resources\Themes" (or equivalent if your drive letter is different).
6: Double click the theme file.
Would it be smart to switch to Windows 7 (coming from XP) with Dual Core @ 1.83Ghz, 1gb of ram and a 9600GT?
I've come to hate XP, and have used 7 on a different PC for about a week and I'm in love.
I think you should get an extra GB of RAM first.

Or just disable transparency
That doesn't affect anything. Disabling transparency simply changes an offset in DWM to create a non-translucent color. So even though you disable it, it's still running as if it was. That's how I found how to get transparency in Home Basic. Change the integer in the msstyles to 0 and that little enable/disable doesn't have any affect.

It was more to remove the transparency that he didn't like than to improve performance.
[editline]03:50PM[/editline]
That's good to know though, I hadn't heard that before.
[editline]03:57PM[/editline]
Wait, does that mean that the Home Basic theme performs the same as Aero? Why then are older integrated graphics limited to the Basic theme?

Home Basic uses DWM/Aero with a locked color defined in the msstyles. This is called Aero Standard. Basic uses the old XP-like rendering with GDI+.
Also Johanz check this theme out: http://neiio.deviantart.com/art/APPOWS2010-157033415
So I just got Windows 7.
I jizzed several times.
I think you should get an extra GB of RAM first.
That's the problem, I'd have to get a new motherboard. And in that case, when I'm at it, I might as well build myself a whole new PC.
Thing is, I don't really want to wait until christmas. Would I still be able to game w/ windows 7 installed, and only have slight lag here and there or would it probably be unbearable.

Agreed, the speed is incredible.

Disable it, then. There's literally no point in having it on if you own your PC and you have any kind of antivirus that has real-time protection.

Or you could explore your settings and control panel for five minutes.

Oh you people, never there to lend a helping hand. <3
I'm completely clueless about Windows 7, which I should get, what I should do before installing it, ect. Mind that my dad can help me out with the last parts, but I won't be seeing him for 8 days.
So I want to upgrade from Windows XP and have 2 ram sticks of 1GB each (DDR2) I have a max of 4 sockets, do I get another 2 sticks with 1GB each or just one stick with 2GB? (64-bit of course)
Is Nvidia GeForce 9800Gtx+ compatible with Win7 64-bit? As it's a pretty good card.
Does it matter which Windows 7 64-bit I get?
Type msconfig.exe in the searchbar.
Allow it to run. Go to the Tools Tab.
Scroll down until you see "Change UAC Settings". Hit Launch.
Drag the slider down to the bottom and hit OK. Reboot.

Or just search that. Or Control Panel > Users

Thanks, I will start by either the first coming weekend or the next weekend.

If you have to pick between UAC and an Anti-Virus (and you should have both enabled), it's much safer to have only UAC than to have only your anti-virus.
why on earth did they make it so hard to deploy on VM server, XP is easy
What do you mean?
Wait what, I can't use png as an icon for my desktop shortcuts? The fuck.
