Looks rather ugly :(
This is almost unrelated, but back on Vista Firefox had a bug where it's window border would turn all glossy black. It actually looked really nice and it'd be cool if a theme for that existed.
Wait what, I can't use png as an icon for my desktop shortcuts? The fuck.
yeah that sucks! :sympathy:

Go complain to Microsoft.
What I want to know is how people get such cool taskbars to go with their themes?
does anyone know how to change them?
I changed from Windows XP to Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit some weeks ago, how do I fix these problems?
1. How do I run 16-bit apps? Is there any program or emulator for it?
2. When I press CTRL-ALT-DELETE I get to a menu where I can select task manager instead of the task manager appearing directly, is there any way to disable the menu and skip directly to task manager?
3. Why does the Windows folder take so much space? I've only used Windows 7 for some week and it's already 14GB.
4. When in a program that has a "window inside a window" the "inner window" has no aero effect, how can I enable it?

5. Why does Windows 7 eat so much memory on idle?

1. Try DOSBox.
2. Ctrl+shift+esc
3. That's just how big it is, my install is a few months old and the Windows folder is still 14GB.
4. You can't, only the programmer can fix that.
5. Main reason is probably Suferfetch and it's a good thing. Don't worry, it releases memory when programs need it.

Thanks for the fast answer but,
1. DOSBox can't run 16-bit apps, I already tried, the program just says "This program can't run in DOS mode" or something like that.
4. Is there any way to change the basic-theme to make it look more like the aero theme?

1. Then probably your best bet is a virtual machine of something like FreeDOS.
4. Not that I know of, I tried playing with the classic color settings but they didn't seem to do anything. Changing the Aero color had no effect as well.
MDI Windows can't use DWM/Aero as they're not programmed to do so.
I was given a Windows 7 Ultimate MSDN key, say I could download a un-cracked version of windows 7 ultimate from a torrent site, would my key work with the disk or would I have to download a specific MSDN version of W7?

I think MSDN keys are for retail but I'm not entirely sure.

I'm pretty sure that the key will work with any disc that has Ultimate on it.
Thanks guys. I'll try it out when the download's finished.

Another question: would it work with the RTM?

:hfive:
Wonder if its a a coincidence or what? May just a be a date set by Windows, if not, kickass.
It says that in all Windows 7 RTM installs.

Retail is a boxed version of RTM, from a build standpoint anyway, licensing standpoint not so much.
It says that in all Windows 7 RTM installs.
Thats what I figured, any reason for my Windows folder to take up 25 gigs though?

WinSXS gets counted.
SysWOW64 has almost all Sys32 files but in 32-bit.

I thought that the windows folder was not really that big because it has a bunch of redundant file paths.

That's WinSXS. Just a bunch of hard links that display as a few gigs making it seem windows takes that much.
pc sucks... so enjoy your viruses
p.s. you could have a virus and you won't even know it

Oh you'll know something's wrong. Just not necessarily that it's a virus.

no its called bad coding when you allow your sdk to be released and you allow your OS to become open and suceptible. apple has remained secretive about it so thats why they're so good.
No one writes viruses for Macs because no one gives a flying fuck about 10% when they can go for 90%.
no its called bad coding when you allow your sdk to be released and you allow your OS to become open and suceptible. apple has remained secretive about it so thats why they're so good.
No that's why Apple is bad.
I prefer a more open platform, simply because it's easier to get started with programming, and there is more good and free programs (partly because of that).
And to get one thing, you have to trade in another thing, which is part of the reason why there is more viruses on Windows.
That said, it's still a in most cases user error if anyone manages to get a virus, no matter what platform.

Security by obscurity isn't working out for both Microsoft and Apple.
