Is there a built-in software based raid1 for windows 7 or what third party software should I use?
It entirely depends on if you have a separate boot/OS drive.
if you're going to use the new hdd's as aux storage drives, then yeah there's a software raid1 utility.

Obviously the "mirroring" option is what you're looking for.

the 1 or 2 tb one
sersiosly, just get 2 500 gb wd's in raid1 (or 1 tb & 1 500gb one)
I've had 2 WD drives for about 4 years now, still kicking.

microSDXC is fucking amazing : 2 TB in 165 mm3
WD Caviar Black.
It'll be so sweet when 1TB SSD's cost $200
