when i had a 9800gt i wasnt satisfyed with it so i broke one of the little capacitors off rma'ed it to ebuyer got it refunded and then got a 4970 1gb for £20.
the 9600 gt i have is my old card i don't use it anymore... and btw i did register it within 30 days of purchase so it has a lifetime.
goddamn my old 8800GT runs newer games fine too
my onboard 8200 does a little worse but jesus you don't need anything above a 9xxx series.
I have a 9600GT from MSI, I can play most games on 1920x1080 maxed out, so if you want something newer, well...
I just RMA'd my EVGA 8800 GT a few weeks ago. They sent me another 8800 GT. You're not going to get a newer GPU.

not likely, at least. I RMA'd a 8600GT a few months ago and got back a 9600GT.
If it's not too old, you can try the EVGA Step up program.
1. Stop being a fraudulent bum.
2. Get a job.
3. ?????
4. PROFIT!!
For some reason, my GTX 470 died after posting in this thread.
Goddamnit...
I'm gonna laugh when he figures out that:
1) His warranty was never valid.
2) They figure out he damaged it on purpose.
3) He injures himself trying to damage the card.
4) A combination of any of the above.

Yes. My GTX 470 wouldn't display anything, after freezing with intense artifacts on Win7 desktop all of a sudden.
Tested the card on multiple computers; it's dead.

did it just die or did it burst into flames?
The 9600 runs CSS at 260+ fps. It's not that old, on forced max settings 16x AA and 16AF.

Silent death. Just like a heart attack.
well that's boring and goes against every meme /g/ has come up with since fermi's release
It would have been too funny if it have actually bursted into flame, or have have heatsink appraisal melted by excessive heat.

I'm sure I played GTA4/Source/Bioshock maxed out on my 9600GT @ 1920 x 1200 smoothly before I got my 5770, so shush

It very much depends on the CPU, I have a 9600GT and a Pentium 4 and GTA IV runs terrible.
I'm due for a new computer.
I've had several nVidia cards die on me, I'm thinking of moving to ATI.

You best have a damn good CPU, because my GTX 260 and AMD 965 can't 100% max it out without some scenes being very slow.

ye 9600s are great cards

Well it was running with a Phenom II x4 940 @ 3.4Ghz + 6GB ram :smug:
Now I max out every game I come up against (hurr except crysis) with Phenom II x4 940 3.4Ghz 4GB Ram + Ati 5770 @ 5200 x 900
Run ATItool's artifacting test for 7 days non-stop, to speed it up run it multiple times but ensure all windows are visible. I guess if you have a multi monitor setup, you could run 3DMark vantage on the second monitor at the same time, not sure if its possible to put it on an automated loop though.
EDIT: You could try jamming up the fan with a tooth-pick, or a lump of cotton wool, that would certainly nuke the GPU in a matter of minutes.

for source games, that sounds right, maybe a bit more fps. the 5770 is on par with the 4870.
did you overclock it?
