• RCA Speaker Wire?

I'm a little confused right now. I'm trying to repair a speaker which uses an RCA cable to connect to the amp (Logitech Z-2300 to be precise). The rca connector was completely broken as the metal plug was ripped off. I decided since it was completely fubar to cut the cable, and revealed what I expected. A standard red/black speaker wire. [thumb]http://puu.sh/EhQy[/thumb] Is there any sort of wire that is basically speaker wire but instead of bare ends has an RCA connector? I had a cheap RCA cable which I cut (stupidly) and it was just a single wire, so those are of no use. This is what the end of a working satellite looks like [thumb]http://puu.sh/EhQo[/thumb] This may be a completely stupid question, but I honestly have no idea. I've looked around and all I can find are subwoofer cables. Would they work?
You could always just buy a cheap Male-Male RCA cable and cut that one up, then solder the two together

Ghetto rig it with one wire from one cable and other wire from other cable.

There was a very fine copper wire next to it. Would I be able to use that? Somehow I don't think it would be a great idea to send 60 watts down this cheap wire.

Its probably set up coaxial if you cannot find it. AKA like this but different because this is antenna wire:
Ghetto rig it with one wire from one cable and other wire from other cable.
How would I narrow that down to one connector though. [editline]28th June 2012[/editline] I cut the male to male RCA connector and stripped the wire down to this

And even if it where it would be fine. Is the plug on the other end also RCA? Because then you can just slap in a new cable. If not just get some heatshrink tubes and solder a new RCA plug on it.

My original plan was to just solder it to the sat cable. How would polarity work with the wiring? Red to the main, and black to ground?

I have about 4 lying around. I will try by just twisting them together with electrical tape for the time being, see if it works. Thanks for your help! [editline]28th June 2012[/editline] Ok, so I just did that and the sound coming out the speaker is quiet and VERY crackled
So is it hard/possible to make an RCA cable? I have loads of speaker wire so it's just a case of attaching it to an RCA plug.
So is it hard/possible to make an RCA cable? And very easy if you have a soldering iron and the correct plugs. Or one of these that are made for soldering:
.... Ok, so I just did that and the sound coming out the speaker is quiet and VERY crackled
One reason would be because you didn't make a proper connection. Just torsing (not sure if this is the correct English term) those wires together will make noise every time you touch/move it even slightly. I'm not sure if i'm getting this right, but are you asking how to build a RCA cable? If you are then you just need to connect the ground to the ground (usually the black wire or the outer cable to the outer ring of the plug/outer cable again). I believe that it is the wire to the right in this picture: http://puu.sh/EiQ7 It's hard to tell. Then you just connect the other 2 wires together. It's really easy but you will need to solder it.
Or one of these that are made for soldering:
that's exactly what I'm after! something like this would do the job?
If you really didn't want to solder you could also use These and just connect the cables straight up

Found some cheaper ones. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pack-Of-Phono-RCA-Type-Plug/dp/B000UX8VFI/ref=pd_cp_ce_0 But for the 45c difference I would go for the pretty ones.
Isn't that for two RCA plugs, not for bare wire to plug?
It is, but if you didn't want to solder and still had some uncut cables around it'd work
It is, but if you didn't want to solder and still had some uncut cables around it'd work
Alright, neat tip! I'll be soldering though, it's not a problem for me
Well, I got the plugs, soldered it all up and plugged it in. it worked! unfortunately, it's very crackly. Upon further inspection the voice coil has debris in it which is causing it to cut out or crackle. I've blasted it with compressed air and wiped the plug with a cotton swab but to no avail. It even looks like the coil is off centre so its rubbing on the phase plug Might not even be worth a fix.
