• Cheap computer for parents

My parents need a new computer badly but the most they do is browse the internet and do a bit of text work so nothing super amazing is really needed. For buying all the parts I live in Canada but ordering them from the US really isn't a issue, anything under $500 or so would be nice a os isn't needed either because I will just be throwing linux on there for them. A new monitor mouse and keyboard would be nice, but nothing really massive or super fancy.
Laptop or netbook might fit well.
for just simple internet surfing, buying a prebuilt would probably be cheaper. e-machines makes some cheap desktops.
I'd go laptop, since your parents probably would appreciate the larger screen rather than a netbook. Since this is for basic use, upgrading is not an issue, so a laptop is fine. Plus they'll like being able to move it easily, being able to put it away and so on. I'd recommend getting one with a full size keyboard though, whatever else you do.
Get a refurb Dell. No point in building for such a simple use. [editline]24th December 2010[/editline] http://www.dell.com/content/segmenter.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dfo
The only problem I could see with a laptop is it getting lost really fast or broken, though one would make sense.
