Just got a Noctua NH-U14S which is doing a fine job at cooling my CPU. I'm getting lower temps clocked at 4.2GHz (50 °C Load) than I was with my old cooler for 3.4GHz (60 °C Load)

Just got The New Razer Blade 14" laptop with that killer resolution. I just got done with a game of Dota and a 3DMark full bench test, so the temperatures might be a little high.

Razor also added the oven top feature to the home button for those mid game vegetable stir fries that people often get into.
Heat temps show 123.8 degrees ferinheight on the power button. Your hands never go near it though.
Oh my god that scaling. :v:
Opened my window to let in some cool air.
I built a new desktop to replace my old laptop (which never moved locations anyway!)

Quite the small screen for your desktop by modern standards.
Well I had to re-use an old relic from my family. It has been passed down for 3 intel generations.
Going to upgrade to a 1080 when I get extra dosh this summer.
Don't feel too bad. I'm using a near 8 year old laptop with 1440 x 900. I don't even have HDMI (S-video and VGA only).
But least it isn't 1360 x 768 though. :v:

What the hell are you using as a monitor?
What the hell are you using as a monitor?
CVTE looks like some TV board manufacturer, so its probably some generic TV brand. And he's running in interlaced mode. The resolution though, I have no clue. It seems to be a common resolution with that model. Maybe to get rid of overscan?
What the hell are you using as a monitor?
Crappy TV I have been wanting to get rid of.
Buying a new monitor is on my priority list.

1440p gaming is pretty cool. I got the 4930k to 4.5Ghz on liquid, I'm planning to replace my GTX 670's with the 800 series when it comes out, and get liquid blocks for those.

I completely forgot I had that Hitachi drive from that old laptop on this machine. :v:
What's even more crazy, is its still being sold for $150 on Newegg. Its about 8 years old and uses SATA 1.0. I don't know why.

Are you using one of those docs for desktop graphics cards for laptops?

You bet.

That is so fucking beastly. Where do you get one of those docks? And how does it interface with the laptop?

Expresscard or mPCIe, and you can get one here http://www.yoybuy.com/en/show/37090263024/?s=t
It's more complicated than a desktop so I'd recommend posting in this thread so you can get some advice on what would be best if you were considering doing it.

The OP needs updating as new hardware has come out, but because of Facepunch's edit bug I haven't got round to re-writing it yet.

I OC'd to 5GHz for the hell of it, and it's stable and cool, which is amazing to me.
don't worry though, i underclocked it because 5GHz isn't worth it, and the voltage would probably destroy my chip. it's at 4.7GHz now
Having a laptop isn't very fun anymore.

My dad bought the parts to the computer, but barely uses it. So I bought the graphics card since he didn't get one and I'm using it to run newer demanding games.
I'm not proud of it to be honest. It was a prebuilt I got back in late 2010, it used to be great with games, but with any game after 2011, it becomes a bloody furnace. If anyone had any general tips about what upgrades I should get, I'd appreciate it.
Also I can do 1080p with my TV, but christ on a bike it looks appalling.
Well start with adding some extra RAM, 4GB is a little small. And I'd also upgrade the graphics card to a newer model (I have a r9 270 which is great for 1080p gaming).

personally I wouldn't feel safe on a max temp of 85c. my rule of thumb is to stay below 80c, 75c max preferred, as anything above will definitely make the lifetime of the chip shorter.
4.2GHz on air with a max temp of 56c on prime95.
