I think the temperatures are because of bad cable management. I shouldn't have gone with a microatx case and an h100i cooler for my first build.
Just added 500 GB SSD in, fixed the ram (Even though it still says unknown, but it was running 2166 mhz before I turn on XMS configuration.)
Finally got an SSD after my 6 year old HDD finally kicked the bucket. My computer has officially become a new computer - not a single piece of the 2009 HP Pavilion remains.
got rid of my gtx 970 and went for a 8gb 290x instead.
Here's my piece of crap PC
got rid of my gtx 970 and went for a 8gb 290x instead.
why?
Probably because of the 4GB 970's controversy.
He's got a 1080p monitor, it shouldn't matter.
He's got a 1080p monitor, it shouldn't matter.
Because it actually bricked itself, tried a shitton of solutions, and I've had problems with nvidia in the past, so I had enough, I needed a reason to jump ship to AMD, and while I do have a 1080p monitor it'll be soon before I upgrade it, its got a mean scratch on it. As for what i'm going to do, I'll hopefully find a way to get it working, then I'm sending it to somebody as a gift.
I desperately need an upgrade
It's a little bit outdated but that's not remotely a bad build.
It's a little bit outdated but that's not remotely a bad build.
Yeah its not a very bad build, though its starting to get a bit difficult to run some games at a solid 45 or even 30 frames, and it'll only get harder with some games like GTAV and Witcher III coming out.

The CPU will be fine for awhile yet.
Just recently upgraded. I added another 8GB of RAM and bought a GTX 970. So far I am really pleased; gamed like Arma III run buttery smooth. I'm not considering upgrading my monitors to 144hz displays.
And here I am with a first generation i7 idilng at a nice cool 55° C :suicide:

I'm OC'ing to 4.2GHz and it's staying cool even under load; but that's because of the Hyper 212+ which I recommend for anyone using a conventional fan cooling setup.
You sure you got enough drives?
Haha I guess so. I don't have anymore onboard ports!
Would a GTX 980 be any good if it's housed by PNY? Never heard of them before i started looking. Their professional GPU's on the other hand are pretty popular.
I'm not a fan of PNY made consumer GPU's. Their professional GPU's on the other hand are pretty popular.
Can you please give me an example of consumer/professional? Is their GTX 980 a consumer one?
Can you please give me an example of consumer/professional? Is their GTX 980 a consumer one?
The 980 is a consumer. The Quadro cards are the professional ones, and cost far more than you'll ever want to spend on a GPU in your life.
You sure you got enough drives?
You can never have enough HDD's.
Upgraded to this from a gtx460 + i5 2500K and a shitty hard drive. The difference is phenomenal.
Old friend. Need new drives, these hard-drives are slowly dying.
I need to get a new primary drive. My main one is from an my first, old computer because I'm too cheap to buy new windows...
