Just found my old 80gb Zune. Has there been any updates in last couple years on using them with other software other than the Zune software? The Zune software was the main reason why I stopped using it.

Nope, Zune software is still required.
I'm looking for a tablet that's as good as the iPad without the shitty operating system. I'd like to be able to emulate DOS and such with it, also I'd like for it to have USB ports. Could care less about cameras.
Well, to put it simply, within the next two months X Rebirth and the Star Citizen dogfighter module are both being released.
I currently have an old Logitech Wingman Extreme ( http://i.imgur.com/A43IkmL.jpg ) that I got from a thrift store, but its throttle slider is starting to wear out and gives erratic throttle changes (making it nearly unusable).
I've been poking around but I see that there's not nearly as much choice for joysticks as I thought there would be.
The one I'm currently looking to get is the Saitek X-52 http://store.madcatz.com/X52-Flight-Control-System-by-Saitek.html?scid=saiteksite , if anyone has an personal experience with that, any input would be appreciated.
I'm willing to spend up to $150 USD for a good joystick. About my only requirements are that I like the way it looks (petty, I know) and also that the throttle can separate from the stick itself. I always feel so crowded on my Logitech stick.
Family asked for advice on upgrading their computer, mainly for general performance but also for gaming. Just wanted to make sure my advice to them sounds correct:
Current build:
Phenom II X3
Radeon 4850
2GB RAM
500GB HDD
1024x768 LCD of unknown provenance
Windows XP
Advice, in order of preference depending on budget (all recommendations will include items above them):
1) Add RAM - I think they have two slots open, so 2x2GB more should be fine.
2) Add a 60GB SSD, install Win7x64 (as I have a spare key)
3) Upgrade monitor, either to a 1600x900 model or 1920x1080. Maybe keep current one as a second screen if they have desk space.
4) Upgrade GPU - max I will recommend to them is a 660, maybe a 660 Ti or 760 if they get a 1080p monitor and get a CPU upgrade (a good X4 or maybe even X6 is probably cheap by now).
5) Whole new build - get a better case (instead of the $40 POS airflowless one they have now), an ITX board with an i3 or i5. Keep the HDD and DVD drive, maybe PSU if it's not an IED (likely is).
If gaming, I'd say i5, 1080p monitor and a 760 (cheaper than the 660ti). Salvage the hdd and dvd drive and get the ssd, you could easily do an ITX build with all that but you'd have to buy some decent ram too since 4gb is a bit low, just get 2x4gb. That system is long overdo for a refresher imo

Yeah, they've needed it for a while. To be fair, there's two laptops and two tablets in the family as well, all of which are far more recent. I think that monitor is a decade old, came with a prebuilt we bought with an Athlon XP of some sort.
For the RAM, I'm 99% sure they're running 2x1GB. Any decent mobo will have four slots, so getting 2x2GB ought to be fine, but I might get them 2x4GB anyways if it's cheap enough.
I will note that their budget is likely to be extremely limited, so they may end up with just a 660 or even 650. At sub-1080p, with the games they're running, I doubt that will be an issue.
A 60gb SSD feels a bit short, maybe a 80GB? I have a 60GB for Windows (7) on my desktop, and sometimes it feels tight just due to how big Windows (7) is.
If you can squeak it get at least a 120, 60-80 is way small as windows will take 10-15gb alone.
This is fairly off-topic, but this thread is the closest I can find, I don't want to make a huge sweat over a issue that may be solved very simple.
Ever since formatting my computer, installing Garry's Mod which is now in my Common folder, I have these very weird and annoying problems.
The HUD is broken, and weapon sounds aren't working. (Like shooting / hitting with weapons is just complete silence, just the impact on wood, concrete etc).
I have all the basic Source games installed (HL2, EP1, EP2), tried to remove the weapons folder in sounds. (succeeded) But issue still exists.
This is how the HUD looks like

Any ideas what to try?

I would verify all your game caches, also have you launched each game at least once? I would even load the first level of each just to make sure.
im trying to foward a port for my xbox 360, but the xbox isn't showing up in the application list
i'm using a 2wire modem from Uverse, any ideas?
[editline]8th October 2013[/editline]
ok i managed to find it but forwarding the port did nothing, the only way to get my NAT back to moderate or open was to reset my modem, this seems to keep happening, usually later in the evening
Need a Laptop. Used a netbook for university and stuff but it just doesn't cut it anymore since I need to use it for heavy seismic data calculations and picture editing too.
I'm ready to spend about 700€, it doesn't need to be bigger than 16" and an SSD is a must. Any ideas? All laptops seem so... shit to me.

except for a larger screen but it seems cheaper?

Why does the internet only seem to have issues in the evening? I mean, mine does the same thing. It's like it's time-sensitive or something.

More users online.
For the internet that is. No clue about the port stuff.

I have launched HL2 for the first time, yesterday I let Steam verify the game cache, a reboot has passed since that. I just have launched the game as I type this to try it.
Edit: HUD is still destroyed.
Oh also, here is another problem that is worrying me.
A friend of mine has a ~2 year old Intel Core 2 Duo computer, and it has INCREDIBLY high temperatures.
First time I cleaned it the stock cooler wasn't attached properly (I couldn't figure out how to work with Intel's cooler mounting), resulting the temperatures to float around between 90-100c,
I got sick of him having these issues, so I came there again, cleaned it up once more, I read a guide before this and the cooler was secured properly.
And STILL these high temperatures. I know Intel has bad stock coolers, but this is over the top.
What should I try here? It's not that he needs a permanent fix, but just to go on forward with this setup for a while, as I'm building a new computer with him soon.
I would like to get a Thinkpad with Haswell for programming/homework/general use, no gaming. Avoiding having a 6 pound laptop, I have my eye on the S440 Touch (though if there's a non-touch version that is significantly cheaper then I'll be going with that.)
The number one important thing for me is having a nice touchpad like the Macbook series do, which Lenovo seems to have nailed with the Haswell generation.
Is getting a Thinkpad overkill? I'm very careful with my electronics, so the rollcage and military spec blah blah blah may be too much. But Lenovo seems to be the "Apple" of Windows laptops as far as quality goes, I haven't had a good experience with any trackpad besides Apple. And Apple's new laptops don't have any replaceable parts so they're out of the question.
I have very bad experience with the Lenovo keyboards, they just seem to be so uncomfortable for me.

My sister had one of those Yoga 11's with Windows 8 RT for a few weeks and the keyboard seemed fine to me, they are oddly shaped though.
What's a good antivirus i can use on Windows 8?
They always seem to be so crammed and too far towards the screen.
What's a good antivirus i can use on Windows 8?
Windows Defender.

i wish i knew, this shit is ridiculous
i don't recall having NAT problems previously, they just started a week or two ago
and i can't just reset my modem whenever i want, there are multiple people in my house constantly doing stuff
Out of curiosity, how much would it cost to buy and colocate (assuming thats the best option) game servers for a gaming server business? Exclude WHCMS because id probably use BoxBilling

You don't buy game servers, you buy dedicated servers and put the game servers on them.

Yeah I know that. What I ment was id probably preconfigure my servers before sending them out. But I guess I could buy dedicated hosting
Hi there,
I'm planning to build a new computer from scratch, i.e. buy the hardware separately and not a 'ready machine' from some vendor.
Never did that before so I'm not sure where to start. I think I need to find a motherboard first since it will pretty much determine which graphics card I can use (socket), how much RAM and the processor I can use.
Now where is the best place to find out which mainboard I want? When I was young I used to check pc games magazines for hardware information but I'm not sure if that is still the way to go.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

TigerDirect has an interesting configuration tool that will let you plan out a build. From there, you can choose whether to buy the parts individually from other vendors, or buy them all from TigerDirect. You can even have them build it for you, if you're so inclined.
That's how I configured my machine. Put some stuff together, ran it by the guys here, made changes, and after a few months put together a pretty decent rig.
CyberPowerPC has a similar thing. Maybe give that a shot?
Is it worth upgrading from a 6670 (1GB) to a 7770 (2GB) at a $130 price point, and will a 500W PSU suffice?

Is it worth it to you? The psu should be fine.
