I got a quick question and didn't really knew where to put it:
I've completely formatted my pc. The C:\ Windows 250gb SSD only has 17gb used. The D:\ 2tb Data HDD is completely empty.
Now i'm reïnstalling Steam. I put that on the C:\ Windows SSD because I use it alot and it really speeds up loading times for me.
However for gmod I need entire games just for materials and stuff. But I don't really play them.
Where would be the best place to put it? Because I only want games I spend alot of time on to be on the ssd for size issue's. But I don't know if I can install gmod on C and another game on D and if that defeats the purpose of it loading fast through SSD.
I hope this is clear enough.
Thanks!
Steam allows you to have multiple places in which your games are installed. I believe if you have multiple drives in your computer at any one time, Steam will ask which you'd like them installed to before it does so. So you can have Gmod installed on your SSD, with CS:S, TF2, DoD:S installed on your HDD without any trouble.

Ah cool. But wouldn't that slow my gmod because it looks for files on the rotating harddrive then?

Not by too much, it wouldn't be very noticeable.
Would it be worth it to upgrade to Windows 8 at this point?
I'm on Windows 7 and everything is working fine. However, I don't know if I'm missing out on anything other than faster boot times if I were to upgrade. Should I buy Windows 8? I dunno if it's worth the price. I figured someone else that has used it can judge for me.

The only reason for the fast booting is that it uses elements from hibernation, I'm guessing you could yield close to the same effects if you were to just hibernate your machine instead of shut it down.
This rarely happens, but occasionally theres a game that has a combination of shitty things that can force you to restart if it hitches up. What happens is first that the game takes direct keyboard access overriding any normal "gtfo the game" commands like alt tab, ctrl alt delete, ctrl shift escape etc. its also in fullscreen with no windowed mode available, preventing you from stopping it taking full focus and therefore being able to click out
Basically when a game does this and freezes up, your computer is still functioning fine in the background but because the game is a broken POS you have no way of getting back out to it without restarting, and because it has no decent error management it never closes. Does anyone know any solution to situations like this?
The only thing i could think of was some kind of non-keyboard USB button binded to focus another program. Maybe an autohotkey script to automatically alt tab every once in awhile if you knew it happened with regularity or it happened on game's startup. Ideas?
Eh, another question.
What should my temperatures for my AMD Phenom II 965 be? I'm not overclocking, but I'm running at 49-50C idle and 80C at maximum load. I tried to search for what temperatures to be concerned at, but the internet's answers range from 50C to 100C as the limit, so I'd rather trust FP on this one.

Which game is this that you're currently having issues with?
My father and I are looking to buy new pre-builts for gaming. We're looking to play most games on high if not max settings. I recently found this on NewEgg for $940 and now it's at $850.
What does this PC lack? Would it last us a few years? What alternatives should I look at for pre-builts?
Hm, yeah those could create some issues. Which pre-built sites should I look at? My father would prefer a gaming PC that will last a few years, has an SSD for boot up, and Windows 7 Pro/8 Pro. We are not interested in over-clocking or liquid cooling.
I threw together a rig on iBuyPower's customize thing and I would like some opinions on it, thanks.
Link isn't showing what you've selected. Site doesn't work that way. Why not just build it yourself? I can suggest a build list for $900
Oh, I went with a standard fan instead of liquid cooling, Nvidia GTX 760 2GB, 500W power supply, and Windows 8 Pro.
That'll be pretty nice if you could suggest a list, actually. My dad has built computers before, but he's afraid now that once he puts one together that the parts won't be compatible and he'll have wasted a Saturday afternoon.
Thanks.

Here's a shitty Pastebin of the specs I had chosen for that iBuyPower one if you're interested. Price totaled to $1162. Link
Does anyone know a fix for youtube videos constantly reloading? Every time I open a video there is a chance that it'll just keep reloading the page, effectively freezing the tab. Only happens on firefox and I tried cleaning the cache
Hey. Friend broke his laptop and is getting a new one. Budget is around 550 euros. We live in Ireland so that's a factor too.
He saw these:
http://www.argos.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10152&catalogId=14551&langId=111&searchTerms=asus+x+550&authToken=[1]

Which out of these is the best? It would be mainly used for college work and gaming so what one would be better for games? Also any other suggestions are welcome if you know of better ones.
Thanks!
I'm trying to make my external hard drive bootable, but it doesn't show up in the startup manager. It's powered by a plug, it just won't mount.
On OS X by the way
Install rEFIt
I've been noticing the Youtube HTML5 player and Vimeo's player won't accept mouse input on certain controls. On Youtube, it's the volume control though if I click on the volume control area and use my arrow keys, I can adjust the volume.
Any ideas?
Apologies for the horrifically low quality pics, but what kind of cable is this?

It's labeled as a USB cable, but I don't know what variant it is. It's got those weird black edges around it, and I'm looking for a female... that... to male USB A cable.

Looks like eSATA to me. Is the other end the same as that?
Looks like eSATA to me. Is the other end the same as that?
Nope, it's this connector at the other end.

That other end is without a doubt eSata, but I've no clue what the other one is without a better picture. Its pretty blurry and another angle would be nice
Read the side note with the OS part. 30 Day Trial. Meaning you'll have to pay for the key anyway from Microsoft.
Also 500W Standard PSU it's really probably going to be a shitty IED as well.
http://i.imgur.com/5t09Mvd.png Best I can do with no OS. Increase your budget and there's an OEM OS for ya.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832416778 Win 8.1
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116986 Win 7 SP1
Someone can contest this though. If they have anything better then submit and correct me.
I would go with a cheaper case, then go though microcenter for the CPU/mobo if you can. My buddy's 4670k was $200 and the Z87 board was like $120-140

eSATAp, maybe? Never seen one of those in person, but that might be it.
how come my screenshots for any game always end up a lot darker and less colorful than what i see in-game?
happens when i take screenshots with fraps or dxtory, jpg or png, etc.
tried adjusting monitor brightness and that didn't seem to fix it

The game probably does some post processing on the image and the screenshot was taken before post processing.
That, or your monitor's all kinds of badly-calibrated. You've probably got it oversaturated and way too bright.
That, or your monitor's all kinds of badly-calibrated. You've probably got it oversaturated and way too bright.
But the calibration or lack thereof would be over everything including screenshots.
Best way to calibrate monitors without buying thirdparty stuff?
But the calibration or lack thereof would be over everything including screenshots.
Not if the monitor itself is calibrated independently of the OS. A lot of monitors have the ability to change colors, brightness, and contrast on the panel itself, rather than through a program in userspace.
In that case, the screenshots are showing what's being sent to the screen, not what the screen's doing with it.

Use the built-in calibration tools?

Whats the likelyhood hes running calibration

But he would be looking at it through that very same monitor, so he would still see exactly what he saw in-game.
Unless, of course, his monitor is detecting fullscreen apps and switching to a "gaming" mode of some sort. That could explain things.

Or he's viewing the screenshots on another device, although I doubt it.
Think it could be JPEG compression?

Aren't most monitors pre-calibrated poorly?
i have a pretty crappy acer monitor
[editline]18th November 2013[/editline]
also i don't think my monitor has any sort of calibration tool
