If someone was to leave RAM in a slot in which it wasn't used, like just put it in the wrong channel basically, would that damage the RAM if they left it there?
I just discovered recently that I know much less about computer hardware that I thought, sorry if my questions seem idiotic.
If I want to buy a GeForce GTX 770 this holiday, is this the best deal I can get or should I wait for cyber monday?

Is there anything I should know if I buy from that source? Like, apparently there are different versions of the same card made by different manufacturers so I don't know if there's anything I should watch out for.
If my current desktop has a GTX 275, is the GTX 770 going to be able to fit in it physically? Also, will my 750 watt power supply be able to do the job?
That's not a bad deal, per se, but I'm not sure if that's the best possible deal. You're asking to predict the future. I would say that you're not likely to see a price significantly lower than that.
I don't really keep track of different card manufacturers, but from what I recall PNY isn't a bad manufacturer. I do wonder if that particular model is your right choice - it's an open-air card, so it works best with a large, well-ventilated case. It also looks a bit longer than normal cards, although the exact length doesn't seem to be listed.
A 750W PSU should definitely be able to handle it. The 770 has a listed TDP only ten watts higher than the 275 anyways, so unless you were literally on the edge of overloading your PSU already you'll be fine (750W is plenty anyways).
I've been interested in getting a SSD for a while. I seen that the Intel 530 240GB is on sale for $160 on Amazon. Is it good for its price? Also would it work with my current specs?
Asus p7p55d le, i5 750 OC'd at 3.3ghz, 4 sticks of A-Data 2GB Ram, XFX 550w psu

Thanks for the response. I have to admit, I probably didn't make the wisest choice when I bought the parts from and got my computer assembled by an independent computer shop 4 years ago.
You're probably going to have a heart attack when I tell you that my current GPU hovers around the 90 degrees when I play games (even after removing all dust), and if the room isn't well ventilated it starts inching towards the 100s. Over time, I discovered that the case might be too small (for proper ventilation), the fans might be inadequate and that it's not normal that most of the cables inside are right in the middle and blocking proper ventilation. Not to mention that the thermal paste wasn't properly applied and made my CPU overheat (had to replace it on my own which was surprisingly easy, was in the 100 degrees and is now a stable 40).
The only reason that I haven't done anything about it is a lack of funds and knowledge. I'm thinking about making a new thread after the holidays displaying the mess of cables in my case and asking help on how to improve the airflow, because I really wouldn't know how to mess with electric cables and such and where (and how) to put them out of the way (if there's even space to do that).
I mean, ever since I watched this video I saw that the cable mess in my PC wasn't healthy for it:

Anyway, I guess with the info you gave me I'm pretty much set on buying that GPU even though the airflow in my PC might be less than ideal for it. Is that a stupid idea even if I'm planning on improving the airflow in the future or is it wiser to buy a different card than a open-air one?
I wish my case had an actual cable tray, instead of the quarter-inch gap between the backplate and the side panel. My side panel's actually bowed out because the PSU cables were too thick.
Rosewill Blackbone, everybody... Looks decent, horrible for cable management.
Lately Hola Unblocker has become really intrusive with ads, but I've found nothing else that works as well for making the entire Netflix library from every country available. Is there anything else I should try that isn't an adware-filled piece of crap?

Noticed this as well, it's fucking annoying. I ended up disabling it unless I'm using netflix.

Mediahint?
only use these kinds of plugins when using netflix, otherwise they'll be pretty slow. if you want a good VPN system, you'll have to pay
i'm putting together a home theater/media center PC/light game emulator, what are your thoughts on this build? i won't need to worry about a video card since the a6 has integrated graphics
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2b9ON
i already have the OS, optical, peripherals and thermal paste, along with a spare case fan. i was originally going to use a HTPC case but most look pretty flimsy and reviews aren't too hot either
Is this pretty fast?

For where you live, I say it's pretty good.
That's like.
Streaming with OBS to twitch. 60 at 1080p.
And more.
And mulitple servers.
I'm quite jealous.
For some reason Skype video calls are low res
What's the most powerful GPU I can get that doesn't need to be connected to the PSU?
I did another speed test, it seems like where we were when I did the Skype video call test was getting a very bad result on speed test . net.
1 down 8 up
Is there any way to fix a mouse that behaves weirdly? Left click works fine, but right click has some issues. It seems to work fine at first but when I apply slightly more pressure to it while pressed, I can sort of feel it touching something and it registers it as a click or multiply clicks.
Ok, a bit hard to explain. Basically when I press it down hard enough it registers clicks, which can really fuck you up in certain games like chivalry, where you have to hold the right click down.

Logitech G300
EDIT: OK, pushing it down really hard seems to have fixed it. Weird shit.

Best card I can find is a Radeon 7750. A GeForce 650 should also be able to run off just PCIe power, but for some reason I can't find any that actually do so.
I have these laying around and I don't know what they are for:

Does anyone know what they do? Should I just scrap them?
They're modems. "SURFboard cable modem" is a big clue.
Alright, I'm trying to save my little bro's corrupted netbook that he presumably downloaded viruses on so that he can pawn it off. The thing is password locked with no way of getting through it so I'm trying to install some form of Linux so as to reformat the harddrive (or at least get it working again to some degree). Since I have no clue how Linux works, how would I go about installing Linux via USB? Also, if anyone is familiar with various Linux systems, which one is going to be the most user friendly? I like to think that I know my way around a computer, but currently I am feeling inept.
The 7750 CAN actually run Crysis 2 at med-high settings at a decent resolution. Girlfriend's rig has one and a I3 3220. 45 FPS from Crysis 2 DX11 isn't bad.
oh, I already have one and I was looking to upgrade. :v: Thanks anyway. That being said I can't run Crysis 2 that well and my CPU is better.

Can you not just install a fresh copy of Windows over it? Do the format in the installer?
hi. i have a radeon 6970. could i use an older/cheap nvidia card just to handle physx in conjunction with it?

What I'm mainly wondering is if they are of any use

I spent too much time making this handy guide for you.

I have a 40'' Samsung LE40S71BXIX LCD TV which is acting up really unusual.
On VGA the image quality is very good, but when I use HDMI, the image is awful. Using both connections I apply the recommended resolution.
This is how the image looks like on VGA

And this is how it looks like on HDMI

Now I'm wondering, is there any way I can force the resolution to 1360x768? I want to keep the TV connected to my computer at all times when I like to watch a movie or something.
Edit: It's not the resolution that's the problem.

check the TV settings and see if you can change the mode to "just scan" so it's not scaling it, you could also add resolutions in your nvidia control panel or maybe ati's (not sure what card u have)
and what do you mean the res isn't the problem? make sure overscan is on / underscan is off

Should I switch the Motherboard to a MSI Z87-G45?
It's about 40 bucks more.
Gigabyte Motherboards are bad in my Experience
