Since 2008
Would it be worth swapping out a 280X for a 290 if it meant that I had to get rid of an overclockable CPU?
Is your CPU overclocked atm?
I wouldn't unless you really need that little extra graphical grunt.
If the CPU is Intel you can sometimes OC them a little past their turbo (MSi boards like mine allow all 4 cores to run at turbo speeds)
So... Any idea why, after uninstalling a video chat client, my computer would randomly hang? It's getting somewhat bothersome.
I'm going to need a new laptop for next year. Mostly for software development so I am mainly looking for a good keyboard and a 1920*1080 resolution.
I'm thinking I'll get a 15" Lenovo E540 with an 4th gen i5, discrete graphics, 8gb ram etc. It's about $1K which isn't too bad.
I figured I might as well ask to see if any of you guys had a recommendation.

By the way, what's with all of the shitty flat key keyboards that 95% of laptop keyboards seem to have nowadays.
Think I'm gonna go with the MX-2, shouldn't be a noteable difference.
Got the MX-4 today and just put it on, the old thermal compound was already dry... However, before I did so I ran 3dmark vantage and HWmonitor in the background which told me that my CPU went up to 90°C. This time, with the MX-4 on, it went up to 63°C, so almost a 30°C improvement.
I'm thinking about doing the same with my GPU, but it's current max temp is the same as the CPU, which is pretty much okay for me.
Just to check, I can connect 3 monitors to a Nvidia GeForce GTX 770 right? (Has 2x DVI 1x HDMI and 1x Display Port)
I was thinking DVI, DVI, HDMI. Would that work?
[del]So why Hardware Error 14849?[/del] It wasn't the hardware that did it

I have a GTX760 and run that, so you're alright.

They save space. I can give ultrabooks some slack for the crappy keyboards they have because they don't break my back like my old ASUSes tended to do.
Would this cooler fit in this cabinet?
Or should i just go for an air cooler? My stock cooler is failing and my cpu ends up in the 100c area under load.

Air cooler.
But if you're insistent on the cooler you linked, yes it will fit - it fits on a 120mm fan slot.
When I try to get my files from skydrive, it says the filename is too long
And those files were added from windows 8...
Does anyone know of a way to fix this?

Also, due to a full on attack from bullshitware, I need to know weather or not "C:\Windows\FileManager" is something genuine, Google won't really help.

I suppose i can check if i manage to fit a noctua in there or something.
It just feels pretty cramped after I installed my gtx760.

Looking for a new monitor, spending about £100.
Either 1920x1080 or 1920x1200, maximum size 22 inch.
Any suggestions?
Not really an IT related question but does anyone have a good site to order computer desks from? Maybe getting a replacement and pointers would be appreciated.

You can order shit off Ikea. Amazon?
Any good tutorials for simple USB IO? I need to make a small circuit to send hi/lo signals to a usb port so I can read them on my PC. I can program the drivers no problem, it's the circuit I'm not sure about.
You can order shit off Ikea. Amazon?
Yeah, but I'm just curious if there are other places worth taking a look as well.

You can check Office Depot or Staples. Costco or Sam's Club if you have a Membership.

this is my windows folder, so I'd say no.

IKEA is a horrible place to order from. Shipping alone is often twice the price of your order. It's insane.
Right now I have Patriot and I'm thinking to buy 2x2GB (probably 2133mHz) Ram for upgrade. Will it work?

It'll down clock them to the lowest frequency if I remember correctly.
It'll down clock them to the lowest frequency if I remember correctly.
So if I would buy the 2133mHz sticks they would be toned down to that?

If your previous picture is correct, your current ram is running at 1066, and the 2133 ram will be down clocked to 1066.
