[QUOTE=Genericenemy;43388911]Anyone know a relatively cheap, durable as fuck mouse mat?[/QUOTE]
I don't normally suggest Razer stuff since its mostly trash however I did pickup a mousemat and its pretty nice to use.

I'm currently in the process of cloning my internal hard drive's data (partitions, OS, etc) to an external HDD that has three times the capacity.
When this finishes, I'm going to replace the internal with the external drive, will the laptop boot up normally or will I have problems?
When I say replace, I mean physically swapping the drives. I've already disassembled the EHDD and it's a basic 2.5 HDD with SATA which is compatible with my laptop.
The EHDD has the same RPM, but has a bigger cache than my current HDD.
Is it somehow possible to use my laptops screen as a screen for my PLaystation 3?
[QUOTE=gokiyono;43393931]Is it somehow possible to use my laptops screen as a screen for my PLaystation 3?[/QUOTE]
You could try getting a ps3 capture card that uses hdmi, and view the screen as if it was recording. It might work better if you were not recording, just viewing the input. You probably will get some screen lag and maybe some screen tearing too.
I got Sol Republic Tracks for christmas and they were great. I recently went to a friends house for newyears with my computer, worked there, went to another friends house for a lan party on the first, and i just got home, and not the right earpod isn't working. i traced the problem to the cable. Anybody know some quick fixed that might fix these?
[editline]2nd January 2014[/editline]
update: through more testing, it turns out the right cable is very quiet compared to the left cable. Any programs that can mess with individual "speaker" volumes?
in realtek when i do the audio test, the right one doesnt make any sound at all. but in music videos i unplug the left earpod and the right one is very quiet
Well it turns out that the HDD I swapped in is too big to fit normally.. so I ghetto rigged it.
My laptop is now the proud parent of a 1.5 TB tumor that has already sped the system up.

this won't happen if you buy good desks >:]

[QUOTE=gokiyono;43393931]Is it somehow possible to use my laptops screen as a screen for my PLaystation 3?[/QUOTE]
long answer: on very very specific laptops. some allow you to input video
short answer: no.
Hey it is a good desk! Especially if it's over 20 years old!
Yeah this desk has been used since the 70s when the house was built, never been repainted, not a single scratch or any wear where I use the mouse
on my computer there's a "Disk (D:/)" with 5.2 out of 337.6GB. but i have no clue how to use that, i can acssess it because for some reason there is some MGS, music on there.......
my C disk thing is almost full

^ Razer Vespula[/QUOTE]
I preferred to use the "rough" side because it felt like it controlled the movement a little bit more, but be forewarned, Razer's QC is a little dodgy, and I'd probably never buy their headsets again. I have a Razer DeathAdder however that has lasted three years, and a Vespula as well. The Vespula, however, degrades quickly. The logo rubs off in not too long, and the adhesive they use doesn't seem to work all too well, as the "rough" side peeled away enough so that it was difficult to use without it popping back up again. the smooth side isn't too bad, though. The wrist rest kinda reminds me of the anime boobs wrist rest, but other than that, it's comfortable, although your wrist doesn't sink down into it, nor does it feel like a women's breasts. It has a certain firmness to it. There are probably better ones out there, but this is pretty affordable.
Also, I have a question of my own. Should I purchase a new graphics card in order to keep up with new games coming out? I had no problem with Bioshock, but Bioshock 2 runs a little slow and I'm too vain to look at the really bad textures when I tune the settings, and I mostly turn off shadows at the very least. Bioshock Infinite is also relatively slow, and I still can't play it at 1080p and 60fps on the low setting. These are my specs after running Bioshock Infinite:

It was almost up to boiling temperature at one point, too. I have the fan running at 70%, but that only seems to help while idling. My question is, would it be more advantageous to buy a new graphics card and just replace it, or should I look into getting a new computer altogether? I still retain the monitor, and I plan to play at 1080p and 60fps, and I can also give the old machine to my brother, who's playing games on an even older laptop. I want something that will last maxing out graphics on the market for another three years, something I haven't been able to do for the better half of two years.

You could probably live with that CPU for another year or two.
Pick up a 7790 or 260X if you want to spend $150 or less, But if you can afford it go for the GTX 760.

Thank you. What I've never understood about the graphics card market is the different OEMs, what's the big differences between them and what are the best to get?

There's never a 'best' card due to prices rising and falling and new cards being churned out every year or so. You just gotta waste a lot of time reading about new hardware.
Bang for buck is key, and right now you can pick up an ASUS DCU2 7790 for 129.99 and it blows the 650 and 650Ti out of the water. But the GTX760 is also great bang for your buck, just more expensive at around $270. In some cases it's better than an R9 280X (aka 7970)
Is it bad for a hard drive to have 2 partitions using different file systems?
[QUOTE=garychencool;43409296]Is it bad for a hard drive to have 2 partitions using different file systems?[/QUOTE]
Not in the slightest. I've run several drives with three (NTFS, FAT32 and either FFS, HFS+ or ext2fs, depending on which OS I was dual-booting).
No, will work fine
How about usb drives? No issue?
Also if I was to format the hard drive so I can use both partitions on Mac and Windows, what to use? Ntfs and..?
Not sure but in theory should be fine, NTFS is read/write for windows but read-only for osx, if you want seamless interoperability use exFAT

One issue is xp compatibility with exfat
The fix for Windows XP compatibility is to punch the moron still using Windows XP.

Punch my whole school board.
Thanks.
I know fuckall about CPU heatsinks.
So, my current CPU heatsink is fucked (it's the default heatsink for the retail Intel Core 2 Quad) because the pins that hold it on the motherboard broke (my mobo is a P5Q3).
Do stores like Best Buy sell those pins, or am I forced to buy a new heatsink?

school boards in my experience are notorious morons

Just buy a new one, you can get a cheap replacement that will perform on par or spend $25-35 for a good tower cooler like the 212 Evo and such
I'm sure best buy sells a Dynex heatstink that will fit 775

Since it's a school board, you'll have to switch directly to stabbing, since not only are they forcing people to use a shitty OS that's over a decade old, they're forcing the people who are going to enter the bloody workforce in a decade, to use an OS that's a decade old.
Nah you can do it.

Bought a Thermaltake Water 2.0 Performer. I almost finished installing it, but I'm not sure where to connect the pump. It's a 3-pin connector and the only available 3-pin sockets I see are PWR_FAN and CHA_FAN1. The 4-pin CPU FAN socket is already occupied by the Y-Cable connecting the 2 radiator fans to it.
Which one do I plug in the pump to?
Any 3-pin plug should do
[QUOTE=AugustBurnsRed;43419874]Any 3-pin plug should do[/QUOTE]
Thanks! I think I wired everything correctly. Here's to hoping my PC won't horribly explode.
[editline]4th January 2014[/editline]
Hmmm. All the fans on everything are turned on, but for some reason I get a black screen. Looks like I'll have to figure out if I unplugged any wire by accident.
[editline]4th January 2014[/editline]
Ok, so I think the problem is the huge power wire that's supposed to connect to the motherboard (the one with like 20 pins) but I'm having a hard time to make it able to completely clip with the socket. I don't want to push too hard because the mobo is bending and I'm afraid to break it. It seems that either the pins have a hard time alining or I'm just not pushing hard enough to overcome the friction. Not sure what to do.
[editline]4th January 2014[/editline]
That wasn't it. I think I clipped it in fully and correctly this time, plus there's a green light on the motherboard that let's me know it's actually on.
Even of the hard drive is disconnected (I'm pretty sure it's not, all seems wired correctly) there should be something that appears on screen, right? Plus, I think I can hear the harddrive revving-up.
Any suggestion on what I should check first?
[editline]4th January 2014[/editline]
Mouse and CD drive are on. All the fans are on. When I disconnect my screen from the GPU it says "No Signal" so the issue isn't the cable or the screen. Fans on the GPU are on, but I'm not sure if that indicates anything.
[editline]4th January 2014[/editline]
Actually, I'm mistaken. It seems as if the screen isn't receiving any signal.
Sigh. Looks like I'll have to switch out my GTX 770 for my GTX 275 just to be sure it isn't the issue.
[editline]4th January 2014[/editline]
Nope. Still a black screen. God dammit.
[editline]5th January 2014[/editline]
Did a bit of research and the green light doesn't really related to the mobo working properly or not. If the GPU isn't the issue, I'm not sure what is. I really want to avoid reseating the pump just because it's such a hassle.
