My car doesn't have bluetooth audio but it does have an auxiliary audio input. When I mount my phone on the dash the cable gets in the way, so I'd like to pick up a bluetooth audio receiver. How can I tell a good one from a terrible one, and how much quality loss should I expect?
I got an Intel wireless AC card to replace the shitty N one in my Lenovo laptop, the justification being that it would finally stop not-working for Linux on my school wifi network.
Unfortunately whenever the Intel card is installed, the laptop works SUUUUUPER slow, especially on BIOS bootup/settings menu. I had to install a hacked BIOS to bypass a wireless card whitelist, but I think the problems only occur whenever the card is physically in the computer. What should I do?
BTW hi zeke
[QUOTE=StrawberryClock;43420037]Thanks! I think I wired everything correctly. Here's to hoping my PC won't horribly explode.
[editline]4th January 2014[/editline]
Hmmm. All the fans on everything are turned on, but for some reason I get a black screen. Looks like I'll have to figure out if I unplugged any wire by accident.
[editline]4th January 2014[/editline]
Ok, so I think the problem is the huge power wire that's supposed to connect to the motherboard (the one with like 20 pins) but I'm having a hard time to make it able to completely clip with the socket. I don't want to push too hard because the mobo is bending and I'm afraid to break it. It seems that either the pins have a hard time alining or I'm just not pushing hard enough to overcome the friction. Not sure what to do.
[editline]4th January 2014[/editline]
That wasn't it. I think I clipped it in fully and correctly this time, plus there's a green light on the motherboard that let's me know it's actually on.
Even of the hard drive is disconnected (I'm pretty sure it's not, all seems wired correctly) there should be something that appears on screen, right? Plus, I think I can hear the harddrive revving-up.
Any suggestion on what I should check first?
[editline]4th January 2014[/editline]
Mouse and CD drive are on. All the fans are on. When I disconnect my screen from the GPU it says "No Signal" so the issue isn't the cable or the screen. Fans on the GPU are on, but I'm not sure if that indicates anything.
[editline]4th January 2014[/editline]
Actually, I'm mistaken. It seems as if the screen isn't receiving any signal.
Sigh. Looks like I'll have to switch out my GTX 770 for my GTX 275 just to be sure it isn't the issue.
[editline]4th January 2014[/editline]
Nope. Still a black screen. God dammit.
[editline]5th January 2014[/editline]
Did a bit of research and the green light doesn't really related to the mobo working properly or not. If the GPU isn't the issue, I'm not sure what is. I really want to avoid reseating the pump just because it's such a hassle.[/QUOTE]
I have no idea why I'm still getting a black screen. Physically everything seems to be running fine. I'd rather not have to bench test my components.

I hate my life.
[editline]5th January 2014[/editline]
I calculated my total wattage, and it was around 600 Watts, well below my 750 Watts power supply so that can't be the problem.
did ADP on chrome get an update and start fucking up for anyone else? getting ads popping through pretty often, especially on TPB

Check and make sure ABP didn't suddenly not have a filter list setup. It's happened to me a few times.

Fuck me, I should have done this first. I really didn't think my issue was RAM related but here it is. Removed all my RAM and then socketed my last stick to the first slot and now it passes POST. I'll put back all my sticks and if it doesn't boot I'll test them one by one. Hopefully it was just some wonky socketing and everything will work fine now.

Patience is a motherfucking critical virtue when it comes to PC Hardware troubleshooting, as is being thorough. I would have saved myself a near-nervous breakdown if I had done things in order instead of skipping steps.
Hopefully there won't be any additional surprises.

[B]HOLY BALLS![/B] I'm in the BIOS, monitoring the new CPU heatsink and it works like a motherfucking charm! I was doing 45C with my old, default heatsink and now I'm doing some 25C!
[editline]5th January 2014[/editline]
Sorry for spamming this thread. I'll let you guys know when everything is fine.
[editline]5th January 2014[/editline]
I just reset my BIOS and it seems like everything should be working correctly now. Phew.

Was able to have my computer on for about 40 minutes and played 10 minutes of BF4 on all ultra before my PC crashed completely. Almost there.
I want to partition a hard drive, what are some free programs to do that? The drive has already been formated to ntfs, I want to split the drive into 2 partitions or more.

Windows has a build in one called "create and format hard disk partitions"
Anyone know if these are decent?

the drive im trying to format is already allocated

My "My Computer" folder sometimes takes like forever to load. Sometimes. Other times it just works normally. My hard disc is very old and I am gonna replace it soon enough, but nonetheless I don't think that's the problem since it doesn't appear to have any other problems, and it really appears to happen at random. I've heard it might be caused my a disc drive, that true?
Why does my microphone make this bass noise when i talk in-game, cs:go, css, garrysmod. [url]http://vocaroo.com/i/s1orlZSeUceU[/url]
I've tried pretty much everything and i can't seem to find anything useful on google. I don't have an option to change my bass boost
It's like that in vocaroo, csgo, css, garrysmod but in skype it is almost normal.
clearly you are a demon
for real though, my guess would be a signal issue (noise, broken/faulty wiring or connectors) and that skype has some built in automatic filtration for things like that.
In VirtualBox, in every mode but seamless, any kind of guest, the all the animations are very "laggy"
I have been searching for this but can't find anybody that has this kind of issue so I decided to post about it
Here's a video of what i'm talking about [URL="https://db.tt/EQy4hphD"]https://db.tt/EQy4hphD[/URL], 8mb 60fps
Should be pretty clear what i'm talking about, especially in the Arch box, pay attention to the edges of the terminal
Anyway, does anybody know of a solution to this? I have all ready forced the guest's vram to 256mb through its config and it did nothing
And when I try to search for it all it comes up with is people trying to run games in the vm
You can see the Guest specs when i'm switching through the vm's, same for both
Host specs:
Windows 8.1
i7 3930k 3.8ghz
16gb 2133mhz
I haven't bought a platter hard drive for several years now, but I remember that Samsung spinpoints used to be the bees knees. Sadly, they don't make them anymore.
What is currently the most reliable and cost effective 1TB< drive on the market right now.
-snip got it to work by restarting my pc a couple million of times-
So my new monitors only audio output are the speakers
Does anyone know of a thing that can allow me to get the audio otherwise?
I've got a kinda technical question that isn't important but is bothering me as I've been wondering about the answer for a while.
Say if you've got a powerful server running a VPS service, lots of instances of virtual Linux or Windows servers running and each one rented out to a different person in the country. Kinda like any VPS you buy online, how does the IP addressing work? Each machine will have their own virtual network and IP address? But what about the actual physical server? And the public IP address? Surely each customer needs their own public IP to access their VPS but how would you have them all point to one physical server that has multiple virtual servers?
I'm confused.
[QUOTE=garychencool;43428695]the drive im trying to format is already allocated[/QUOTE]
Resize the existing partition to make room for your new one, then create and format your new one.
Note that if Windows is installed on the partition you're making smaller, you might need to reinstall Windows afterward to solve bluescreens (in my experience, even Win7 reacts absolutely horribly to finding itself on a smaller partition.

also if the built in disk manager can't (or won't) do it, [url=http://ultimatebootcd.com]Ultimate Boot CD[/url] contains a PartedMagic install that will definitely do the job for you.
CPU water cooling, like the Corsair Hydro series. Yay or nay? Just want some silent but effective stuff. And if yay, any recommendations? It's a jungle out there, so much to choose.
Alright, if I'm doing anything wrong here, warn me.
I'm searching for a decently powerful laptop for 3D Animation because the computers in college aren't the most reliable things in existence, and i think it would be more reliable for me to bring my own instead of relying on what they have, plus i could work on whatever I'm doing in say, the library when i have downtime.
The computers that are used in the animation department have a quad core CPU at 2.50 GHz (Q9300), 8 gig's of ram and a ATI Radeon HD 3600 graphics card.
Now the laptop I've been eying up for quite a while now is a HP Envy 15-j004sa. It has a Quad-core Intel Core i7-4700MQ at 2.4GHz, which can apparently go up to 3.4GHz with Turbo Boost. 16 gig's of Ram and the graphics card it's got is a NVIDIA GeForce GT740M. By the looks of it, the only negative this thing has is Windows 8, which i can get replaced with Windows 7 easily. And all of this is £800.
Is this a done deal or am i overseeing some critical flaw or something? I've been told that the CPU is crap from someone and I'm not entirely sure if he's correct.

CPU is fine, depending on your software you may want a better GPU (apparently there are three 740M cards, the only one I'd consider good enough would be the one with GDDR5). Of course, if whatever software you use doesn't have GPU acceleration, it doesn't matter at all.
Also, as mentioned HP laptops have pretty variable quality. I've seen some decent ones, but a lot seem to have crap build quality. Not sure which that series falls under.

After what I understand the server host just allocates multiple IP's to itself (IP Aliasing). It routes the incoming traffic based on which IP the packet has in its header to the correct virtual server. It also allocates one IP to the host itself.

Can confirm, my brother had a HP laptop and it overheated a lot. It even changed shape and the frame broke due to the heat. It looked like Frankenstein.
Alright, so if HP laptop's have reliability issues, what about Dells? How good are the build quality for those?
The Inspiron 15 7000 look's pretty good, by the sounds of it (i could be wrong for all i know) has a better graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2GB DDR5) than the HP Envy and I'm guessing a better processor too, if I'm not mistaken (i7-4500U) but it comes with only 8 gig's of ram, which isn't too much of a issue i guess. Same price as the Envy.
Come to think about it, the laptop i have right now is a old Dell Inspiron 8600 back from 2003 (?) and that fucker's still soldiering on. (barely, but it's still somehow going.)

So the one physical server has multiple internal IP addresses? E.G. (192.168.0.0). What about the external IP that is given to you by your ISP? Let's say one of the virtual servers is running apache and someone wants to access the webpage, they will search for [url]www.example.com[/url] which will point to the external IP of the physical network under port 80.
The owner of the second VM has a similar service set up, so how does the physical server differentiate the two requests and forward them to the correct VM? Would they need multiple external IP addresses from the ISP?
