So in my main PC I installed an SSD a year ago and put Windows 8 on it.
So that was my C drive and I have a 1TB hard drive as a D drive for storing shit, since the 128gb SSD wasn't enough. Since then I have put any loose hard drives I have into the PC so now I have 2 extra hard drives in it.
Whats the best thing to do with this setup? Combine them all into 1 drive? Have the SSD separate and combine the others? How do I go about doing it and do I have to reformat to do so.
Yeah, besides it better to have disks that are the same size and model when combining them for example in RAID 0. Speaking of which, I have a second hard drive that is D: and I keep videos, software from Uni (I get a lot of free microsoft shit) and C: backup. Because I rarely access it I have it power down after it's been inactive for 10 minutes so most of the time it's off, it will spin up when I access it.
Problem is, doing certain things will spin it up, like download a file in chrome, before the download even starts the hard drive will have to spin in up. Does it for various other things too. They're downloading to C: so I dunno why it feels the need to do that. The download will literally not start unless D: has started up.
When I play a clip in windows movie maker, all the sound on my computer stops working. Any idea why this might be and how to fix it without restarting my computer?
[editline]edit[/editline]
I'm using external speakers with a laptop. The external speakers stop working but the internal ones work.
[editline]edit[/editline]
Plugged in my external speakers, then my headset. Worked through my headset. Unplugged my headset and it started working through the external speakers again.
So it's fixed now.
I'm having really bad problems with some games and sound. When I turn on some games, there is a terrible static/cutting noise that occurs, oddly enough it happens in games like Crysis 2, and L4D, but does not effect Battlefield 4.
Checked LatencyMon and this came up

Anyone know what to do? I can't play games very well with the terrible sound
20 minutes of SRIV yielded this

Figured it out, CrossfireX issues
Oh I see. I thought it might be better to combine them. I have installed every Steam game I own and I needed to use a second drive for that so its just sort of spread over everything. And folders are sort of annoying because I have the home folder with my Username thats on like the SSD or some shit then I have a downloads folder in the other drives and then have to change the path for This PC since that shows a Downloads folder and its just a mess ha
Is ATI 5970 still good these days?
I'll be having 8GB RAM DDR3 + i7 4770K with that gfx card in a few days.
Also Speccy says my 5970 is just 1024mb of video memory, I thought it was 2048? And why does Speccy tell me I have 2 5970's?
Do any of you guys use a Logitech M570 trackball? Does it live up to the reviews? Not really getting much response in the mouse thread and might go to a trackball to keep it from making too much noise.
Any chance I can get some help on a new PC build? If this isn't the place, please direct me to the correct one.
My current build is pretty much on it's last legs and it was a low-end build to begin with that I built back in 20010 or 2011 so I'd like to upgrade. I know what I'm doing with this sort of stuff but I'm by no means an expert, so a little advice would come in handy.

I can recycle the ram and harddrives off my old rig but I'm stumped with the GPU. I've already got a ATI/AMD 6870, so should I buy another and crossfire them or just buy a new video card outright? Would the PSU I'd be buying be able to handle both of them? Or is my proposed rig just pure stupidity and wouldn't work well to begin with?
Planning on an i5/GTX 760 build and have an old 600W OCZ power supply sitting around. Will 600W be enough? If so, is it a better idea to invest in some extra headway, like a 650W Corsair PSU?

500w would probably even be enough.
I was playing Lego Lord of the Rings before and windows said I was running low on memory. But I have 8gb and I was only using ~3gb.

Why is it saying I'm low on memory if I'm only using 3 of 8 gb?

Ok, great. Thanks.

Just ignore it, it happens.

Yes, any cooler that fits 1155/1156 will fit 1150 as well.
Is there any way to create an overlay on my screen using an xml file?

Like that (but actually designed.)

I'm fond of the way I do things.
SSD - C: Used for the OS, and the most commonly accessed programs; Photoshop, 7Zip, Steam, media players. Maybe one or two games, ones that take ages to load.
1tb HDD - D: Documents, Work, Pictures, Music, Downloads and General use Programs - All laid out and organised the same way as a normal windows hierarchy, and included with the default libraries for easy access.
1tb HDD - E: Photoshop/Illustrator and other program caches too speed them up, Computer back-ups and restore points, and my the rest of my games and Steam library.
My brother is a PC gamer. He wants to buy a 4k monitor at about 24 inch in size.
I sort of disagree with this due to the fact that it will suck all the performance from his GPU (GTX 670 soon to be a 870) and Im not sure about the possibility of short term burn in? I know the iPad has this issue as I have had this issue with my iPad frequently. Although I know the iPad is a lot smaller, surely there would be a high chance of it happening on a bigger screen with a bigger resolution..
What do you guys think?

I wouldn't worry about burn-in, I'd worry about refresh rate. A lot of the 4K displays run at 24Hz instead of 60Hz, and thus are completely unsuited to gaming.
The pagefile.sys on my laptop is really big (8gb). Since I have 8gb of RAM in my laptop, do I really need my pagefile to be that big? How big or small should it be?
Does anyone know if Avast and COMODO firewall, work well with each other? or is their issues having both of them run together? and how much memory does COMODO use?
I'm looking for a new set of 2.1 speakers. Budget is $100, willing to go a little higher but I have have a $100 American Express gift card to blow on something. Was using the Creative I-Trigue L3800, though it's borrowed and that time is coming to an end.
Any suggestions? I really don't know much about sound when it comes to buying headphones or speakers.
Should mention that a headphone jack and aux in are must haves.
Whats a good cheap external hard drive? Preferably £40-50 on Amazon.

In my own experience (average web browsing and online gaming), Comodo Firewall and avast! seem to work fine together. Both programs used their default settings. No idea how much memory it uses, but it can't be all that much, or at least not enough to cause problems.
My Bluray drive arrived in the mail today, and I got it installed only to discover that VLC can't play anything I own. Since I'm apparently gonna have to buy software to watch my shit, what is the best/cheapest I can get that'll just let me watch my movies?
An actual bluray player.
No really, the software solutions still suck as bad as they did 3 years ago. You can thank the "100% effective" "consumer friendly" DRM that is in place on the disks. To do it 100% legit you also need your display to be HDCP compatible, and your graphics card needs to report that to the playing software.
That said, I use AnyDVD HD (Acts as a shim between the drive and any software, decrypting the disc as it is read) in conjunction with whatever media player I feel like at the time, or handbrake if I'm ripping to my media library. Before that I used PowerDVD as it came with my drive.
Will I be able to install ubuntu 12.04.3 on a 4gb usb? That computer will be used a couple times a year.

OEM drive so no included software, but my gfx card and monitor are HDCP compliant. Suppose I'll give AnyDVD a try then.
[editline]21st January 2014[/editline]
AnyDVD is absurdly expensive though. Wouldn't it be a lot cheaper to get something like this than something that would cost 63 Euros?
To anyone with nvidia 3d vision wireless glasses, how long should I charge them before first usage?

Yes. The livecd for Ubuntu requires only 900MB or so.
If you want it persistent you'll require abit more, but I think it will fit on 4GB.
