why would it matter? the sata label just indicates that the drive has a sata interface like pretty much every other hdd in existence its probably sata 2 (3gbps) since 1's pretty old and I doubt that drive is as old as that. you're most certainly bottlenecked by the usb 2.0 connector since usb 2.0 is a slow piece of crap. if you want, you can probably try to take it out of the enclosure and just use it in a regular sata port and your r/w times should be faster. read: be very careful [editline]20th February 2014[/editline]
Guh, I dunno if I should swap out my stock cooler for a Noctua one. It'd mean having to tear my motherboard out but a plus'd be I think a more silent PC than what I have now.
thats at most two hours of work if you're being slow and I find working in computers to be rather therapeutic. its not difficult or anything

Eh, can't say I disagree with you. Does this seem like a good alternative? It says it has a max dB of <25 which should be pretty much silent.

do I have a hard drive issue? the past week or so, my pc has started to freeze for about 1 second whenever a program does something. for instance, on skype, when i press enter to send a message, sometimes it will freeze for a small second after pressing enter, and then send. its particularly noticeable on games where a video is meant to be played or a song, sometimes takes a few seconds to start loading more than normal. here's a thing i dont really know if it indicates something maybe someone can tell me a smart test thing

So I tried to help my friend build his PC today. We don't think we did anything wrong but for some reason when it's powered on the CPU and GPU fans spin but there's no POST or BIOS stuff on the screen. I'm just wondering what the most common reasons for that are? For the record, we've already tried the following: alternated between HDMI and VGA output but both had the same result, unplugging power from the GPU and tried using the integrated graphics only, taking out the CMOS battery for a few minutes and replacing it. We don't think the case is shorting out the mobo, it's a Corsair 300R that has raised points on the chassis for you to screw the mobo to rather than using standoffs. All power cables are definitely plugged in. No idea what else it might be. Hopefully nothing is broken.
Quick question, if a network blocks a specific port, can I connect and tunnel everything to a VPN and that port is no longer blocked?

ok so apparently, setpoint's program detection doesn't detect when a program is launched through another program (i use arma3sync, and it launches arma 3 through it) is there a way to fix this behavior?

No idea what the problem was, might have been a power cable that was slightly too loose but we made sure to push them in pretty hard. Oh well.

So I'm new to water cooling... If I buy the Corsair H100i do I need to get anything else to go with it (eg. coolant, reservoir)? I'm kinda confused.

I'm kinda confused.
No it's all there and sealed up, even the fluid. Just check the measurements, some cases can only take an H80i. The coolant, pump and reservoir are for open loop cooling, which isn't sealed up.

If I take a hdd that I previously used and put it on a new motherboard will the OS still function properly? I read I just need to update the BIOS/ drivers.

[editline]24th February 2014[/editline] if all your software is installed in partitions other than your boot partition or backed up, it makes upgrading OSes/hardware really easy.
Aren't some windows keys tied to the motherboard? If windows is your OS that might be an issue.
Aren't some windows keys tied to the motherboard? If windows is your OS that might be an issue.
I've done it with Windows XP and Vista and it worked just fine, maybe Win 7 and Win 8 are different.

I'm due for a phone upgrade and I've had my iPhone 4 for years now and I loved it but I want to go over to Android. Any phone suggestions?

Should I wait until DDR4 memory is readily available to build a PC or would I just be wasting my time and go with 3?
Should I wait until DDR4 memory is readily available to build a PC or would I just be wasting my time and go with 3?
Nah DDR4 will be really expensive when it actually comes out. Stick with DDR3.
What's "wsappx"?

Ok this is gonna be a really dumb question, but I just got a new psu, cpu, and motherboard today from newegg. My roommate was drunk when the package came and he saw "egg" on the box and put the box in the fridge, where it sat for maybe 7 or so hours till I got home... Could this have damaged anything with the components? I wouldn't assume so but I still can't get over the fact that I walked home eager to grab a drink and found my computer in the fridge instead...
