Is there a 3rd party equivalent of Asus fan xpert? My sandy bridge era motherboard is too old to run the windows 8 version of the Asus ai suite
Would anyone recommend a Full tower case over a Mid tower? Full towers look tempting due to the amount of room I can work with.
Would anyone recommend a Full tower case over a Mid tower? Full towers look tempting due to the amount of room I can work with.
The only reason I'd get one is if I needed all that space. A mid tower will suffice.
Mid tower provides better cooling as well.
Does anyone have any recommendations on IDE-to-SATA converters to get or avoid?
For some reason my laptop doesn't let me use Windows 7's audio equalizer. is there a free one somewhere on the internet I can use?
Should there be a Raspberry Pi thread? I never see enough discussion outside of the Pi Forums.
How do I check if a certain RAM module is compatible with my notebook? I currently have 4 gigabytes and as far as I know I can (and want to) I can install up to 8. All the info I could find was the fact that my CPU supports DDR3 modules @1600MHz. I've visited a few sites related to notebook - ram compatibility, but apparently my model (HP Pavilion g6-2230ew) does not even exist in most of databases. Also the only thing that has caught my mind so far is this (of course I'm going to get just one 4GB module).

Is there any mediocre free screen capture software that doesn't put watermarks on the video? [editline]13th March 2014[/editline] Also, why does Facepunch not report my operating system under my avatar on my posts anymore?
Open Broadcaster Software lets you, look up a tutorial on how to use it for that.
Thank you! That's exactly what I've been looking for for a long time.
I'm looking for a $400-$500 tablet/laptop hybrid with full Windows 8 (not RT) for some light computing. What are your best recommendations? I hear the Lenovo Yoga 2 11" is pretty decent, and it probably has the best specs of any $500 hybrid, but the keyboard doesn't detach, it merely folds. I'm still considering it though.
Also, why does Facepunch not report my operating system under my avatar on my posts anymore?
Are you using Windows 8.1?
Can I get anti glare film for a monitor? And if so does anyone who sells it ship to Australia?
I'm looking for a program to fully wipe an external hdd, so that I may then encrypt it and have a fully encrypted travel drive. I suppose my question would be what software should I use to wipe the drive?
Just format it with the standard Windows tools, or if you're paranoid use DBAN.
Should of mentioned the paranoia part, past hdd wasn't mine and I don't want any nasty surprises just a full purge. thanks.
Should of mentioned the paranoia part, past hdd wasn't mine and I don't want any nasty surprises just a full purge. thanks.
Yeah, DBAN is what you want. It's literally designed to prevent even forensic analysis of the drive from recovering data.
how do noctua fans compare to corsair fans? i want to replace my corsair 800D's stock 140mm fans with these and replace my cpu cooler's corsair sp120 with this is this worth the $70 it will cost?
Since I'm a scrub with a pre-built, I just did babby's first hardware change. I installed a 200gb HDD that I salvaged from the old family PC we bought in 2005. While it's useful to have that extra bit of space of top of my 1TB HDD, is there any MASSIVE danger about installing this nine year old part? [editline]15th March 2014[/editline] Actually I should have asked this before putting it in, but it's seems to be running fine for the last five minutes.

No. The most likely mode of failure is that the old 200gb drive will die eventually, taking all the data on that drive with it. But the odds of that happening aren't that much worse than the odds of your 1TB drive randomly dying, and is probably about the same as the odds of a brand-new hard drive dying. And the odds of any of those happening are fairly low - I'd say under 10% odds that either hard drive dies this year.
Is there any way to turn off the LEDs on a Wired xbox 360 controller with Windows 7, without removing the controller itself?
My HTPC (Lenovo Thinkcentre M57 with 2 GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, 60GB SSD, Radeon HD 6450 and Windows 8.1) is attached to our Insignia TV through VGA, when I wake it from sleep the screen will stay black until I hit a key on the keyboard, then the screen instantly comes up. I used to have a Geforce 8400GS and Windows 7 on it and it still had the same problem.
I'm thinking of getting a new laptop drive, preferable a Solid State Hybrid Drive. I'm thinking of this one. Can anyone recommend it (or hybrid drives in general), or one of another brand?
at this point i'm not sure if it's me being stupid, or some outside force just not wanting me to exceed. I'm trying to port forward so I can set up an IRC channel and stuff but nothing I'm doing seems to be working. The most progress I've made is setting the IP that it forwards to to the default address on my Mac, which gives me "Connection refused" instead of "Connection timed out." It tells me "Connection timed out" on Windows and OS X when I manually change the address, and change it accordingly on my router settings page. I tested it with my firewall off too. sorry if that sounds like mumbo jumbo, I only sort of know what I'm doing.
I didn't think to put this question in here instead of making a thread earlier tonight! Whoops.... So here'goes.... Hi everyone, I'm in a bit of a jam. My macbook pro (17inch mid 2011) had a panic attack (August 2013) I didn't really dig into it's cause for the panic, but I'm pretty sure it was CPU caller issue. Anyway, I am super strapped for cash, and in serious need to get the documents off of the hard drive. I went to best buy, bought a cheap $40 120GB or something, just to get my computer up and running again. Reinstalled Snow, then later upgraded to Mavericks, to use the computer to view and erase footage and create future space for future recording on my security camera. Problem is, I tried hooking up the computer to an IDE cable, to the MBP that's now running again, and it pops up under disc utility, but when I click on it, or try to act on it in any way, it just sits there, and either freezes up the computer, or tells me it's just unreadable or something (it's been a while.) I really really need a way to get my data off of it (around 500GBs), but more importantly, right now I need a pages document off of it for an emergency situation. I've been searching the web when I have time for data recovery services/software, but nothing seems like it's concise enough or guaranteed to work in any satisfying capacity. If there's anyone here who can help, it would be greatly appreciated!
