Meh, nevermid.
I'll just go with one 250gb evo.
Does the SSD's work as easy as normal HDD's when it comes to install windows on a totally new pc? Like just build it and launch from the windows usb stick from bios?
Or do you have to do something with them first?

You use an SSD in the same way as if it would have been an regular HDD
Reinstalled the driver, still getting crashes as early as during boot up. I've had a few crashes that were recovered, but there was no prompt afterwards as far as troubleshooting.
what's the best bang for my buck mouse wise? i've been using a logitech G500 but i spilled water on it and now the RMB is unresponsive
[editline]20th March 2014[/editline]
oh and the reason i'm not just getting another G500 is because newegg is out of stock
If you really like the feel the G500S is a carbon copy with better switches and a better laser, less interesting design though.
Still having problems, can only run my 570 for a few minutes if it even boots up at all. Integrated graphics are running fine. I might have a dead graphics card.

Or maybe not because there's half a gig of install files lurking in my computer? Fingers crossed.
Is it safe to format a Sansa Clip+ through Windows? It refuses to start up, but Windows still recognizes it as a useable device.
how's the Logitech G400s compared to the 500s? The 400s is cheaper and uses the MX518 format as opposed to the G500 format.
Anyone know where I can get a genuine key logger? I want to track everything that happens on my computer. I was looking at USB key loggers but there must be software that isn't filled with viruses to do the same.

You'd probably be safest making your own, you just need to record each character then if you want, output to a file

Haven't used a g500, but I have a g400 and an MX518 and I love them.
Anyone ever got the Samsung SSDs? How great is the migration software? Does that transfer the OS too?
I am leaning on buying a SSD as an upgrade from my blue caviar but the process of installing windows 7 again and re installing everything i have is just fucking killing it for me

Whoa, hold the fuck on, larger sized ssds = faster? Is the speed noticeable? I have about 70 gigs on my hdd right now used and I was planning to switch to a 120 gig samsung evo
I have an 120GB 840 EVO coming in next week, probably right away on Monday if the postal service moves packages around during the weekend, even when the offices are closed to people.
I could get you some numbers etc. when that comes in, after I set it up on my laptop, though I bought just the drive, not the package with the migration stuff, since I couldn't use it anyways (full disc encryption Linux setup).
The Pro version is better than the EVO that I'm getting, though. If I remember correctly, they've got more Flash on-board the Pro, with shitloads of space hidden by provisioning, which helps with write speed considerably.

It's more that smaller SSDs = slower. Right now, a single flash memory chip contains only 4-16GB, and only operates around 100-200MB/s. So what the "flash controller" does is aggregate several of them, sort of like RAID but much more low-level and specific to the particular type of flash memory in use. It has a certain number of "channels" - like dual-channel memory, you can have more than one device on each channel, but you only get speed enhancements by making sure every channel is used.
The smallest capacities in an SSD line normally don't use every channel. It's like running only one stick of RAM in a dual-channel CPU/mobo - there's performance being wasted because there's no flash hooked up to some channels.
Right now, it's usually at 256GB or 512GB (without overprovisioning) that every channel is filled, and over that it doesn't really help because you're just adding more flash to each channel.
With the Samsung 840 EVO, the 120GB and 250GB models are only noticeably slower in random-write - they're as fast, or nearly as fast, in every other spec. If your workload involves a ton of writing to disk randomly (database server, for example), it will be slower. But most home/gaming/office use focuses on read, maybe sequential-write. You'll probably be fine even with the 120GB model.
Is there any software to tell you about a possible dying hard drive? There's no errors, it's just making strange noises and vibrating more than usual.

SMART data? If on Windows, you have tools like HDTune that could read those data from the disk. On Linux you have smartctl from smartmontools.
Got a free Dell Vostro 410.
Dunno what the GPUs are but it's got a Q6600 and a 410watt psu. What's the best GPU I can toss into this thing? I'm thinking maybe a 5670/6670?
whoops. it's got a 350watt psu and apprently two ATI 2400 Pro cards in it
so yeah, would something around the 5670/6670 cards be ok in there? gonna use this thing as a secondary pc but I want to at least be able to play a few games
or should I get a better PSU (the case is a standard ATX case) and get a slightly beefier gpu?
So I have a chance to buy this PC for cheap from a friend. I could really use an i7 upgrade and this looks like a sweet cheap deal, only thing that needs to be changed imo is the graphics card. What do you guys think?

I think you can go on the site of the HDD maker (WD,SEAGATE) and download the software to tell the health of your HDD.
And a question, I'm going to upgrade my HDD to a SSD tomorrow, can I reuse the old Windows 7 key I used for my old HDD? I'm not going to be using my HDD anymore.
What can I do
For some reason windows won't boot correctly on my laptop. I would use my usb stick with Ubuntu to find out what's wrong but since it's using UEFI to boot I can't do anything. Is there anything I can do or will I have to put the hard drive in another computer?
Go into your BIOS and enable legacy boot instead of UEFI
Go into your BIOS and enable legacy boot instead of UEFI
I can't get into BIOS using all the common keys for it because it does that quick boot thing where you can't press a key to get to bios. I know I can do it through Windows but that's the whole reason I need to get to BIOS.
There should be a keyboard shortcut. Look up your PC/motherboard

Depends what you mean by cheap. That's rig is getting on a little now.

I found out after I was trying before, you have to hold FN to use F8 while booting. I was able to get to the command prompt and fix the problem. Thank you!
Which is better, a USB wi-fi adapter or a dedicated card of some form? In this scenario, the data transferred would never exceed 15 Mb/s.
I would say always a dedicated PCI card of sorts if you are permanently using WiFi.
What's a good full-ATX case? I'm contemplating a new build, and since I have a fair bit banked away I can get away with a fairly high-end build (currently speccing a 4670K and a 780 Ti). I'm not spending money for the sake of it, though - if a cheaper system does what I need, I'll take it.
I'm looking at cases like the Throne, Phantom 630, Obsidian 750D, things like that. I don't think I'm going to go all the way to watercooling yet, but I would like at least the upgrade path for a CLC on the CPU.

The 760T is nice, comes out in 2 weeks.
I got my SSD that was easy as a HDD to install
holy shit the speed my computer boots up before the windows logo can even combine. microsoft office and shit pops up in like a split second compared to it loading for like 10 on my 7.2k rpm blue caviar
How much difference am I going to get (game performance) between a 2gb and 4gb version of a 770geforce? Because the price difference on average is around £20, and I do have multiple monitors. Also, I think I may be pushing it with a 650w power supply. Running an i52500k 8gb RAM.
