Guys, I recently bought a 250GB SSD. I've got two 1TB hard-drives, with Vista 64-bit installed.
I want to put the SSD into my PC, uninstall Vista and install Windows 7 64-bit. How would I go about doing this without losing files / deleting my user accounts / settings / whatever.
Basically I want to install my new SSD and just put Windows 7 on it, and have that replace the Windows Vista on my shitty 1TB hard-drive.
[editline]12th April 2014[/editline]
Also, could someone tell me (or better yet, link me on Amazon) which screws I need to mount the SSD? I don't know the exact size or specification, and the hardware store had about 4 different screws that looked about the right size, but I didn't want to risk it.
Just install W7 to the SSD, don't touch the hard drive. You'll still have Vista installed on the old drive, but it's safer than trying to uninstall it without messing with your data, and you can delete things like the old Windows folder to try to clear up space. Otherwise, I'd move all your user data off of the Vista drive, format it, then copy it back over, to clear out the boot partition and such.
Pretty much any of the screws inside a desktop computer are standardized - either the 6-32 screws or the M3 screws should work (IIRC, most SSDs actually have holes for both). You should be able to look up exactly which you'll need based on the model.
Does anyone know if using a VAO in OpenGL eliminate the overhead produced by using multiple VBOs?
-snip dumb nevermind-
So my SSD is up and running, it's great. Only problem is, my entire other partition is practically really annoying to navigate. If I want anything, I have to go to the partition, Users/<my account> to access anything, and half the time it doesn't really work well.
For example, I can run Origin from the other partition, but the SSD doesn't recognise it as being installed. Same with most everything else. I had to install all my drivers again, since the SSD didn't recognise the other partition.
Also, if I try to boot from the other partition (non-SSD), it just blue-screens. I'll unplug my SSD sometime tomorrow and see if that allows me to boot up the old partition (I think it should).
What can I do to basically make my old partition less of a clusterfuck to navigate around? I'm tired of having to dig through folders to get stuff, and I'm tired of having to reinstall programs I already have.
I don't know whether this is the right place for this question or not, but I have been thinking about placing some sort of flexible LED stripes around the outside of my bed for some atmospheric lighting.
Though now I've gotten the idea to step it up a little and would also like to make the LEDs change their brightness/color according to the music being played by my nearby computer.
Are there any LED stripes that support something like this natively, if not, how am I supposed to approach this project? Would I need a Pi or maybe even an Arduino to interfere and control the LEDs and where is the best place to actually buy LED stripes?
ok I'm gonna ask this weird question that has came up to my mind:
How is it possible to play one(singleplayer) game on one machine, for two people - one being host(the one who's running the game) and second being a client that's conected through Internet? My friend has linked me this video recently and I just couldn't ask "How?". I suspect insane streaming(obviously) and a software similar to TeamViewer for input broadcasting, right?

I was gonna suggest it might be Steam in-home streaming running over a vpn or something but that just sounds really gross and probably wouldn't work.
Anyone know a program that can take MKV files from blu ray rips that I've done and compress the audio down. I'd like it so that I can highlight all the files in my films folder, press go and that's it. It will convert the files and then replace them with a version that has the audio compressed down.
I think HandBrake can do this. Not sure how well it can batch process a quantity of them, though.

Best screen recording software? Something that can record my browser window
I always hear good things about OBS. Never used it yet even though I have it installed.

When I boot up my PC one of my case fans makes some awful noise which doesn't seem to end, however when I reboot it sounds fine again. It's been like this for a week or so. The PC is 2+ years old. Has the fan gone bad? Should I replace it? I'm not very good with hardware so I'm just asking to be sure.
just kidding all good

Sounds like the fan is going out. Replacing it is your only real option.
Ran into an annoying problem when I hooked up a second monitor to my computer; no matter what properties I seem to tinker with, there's always this stuttering on either the primary or secondary monitor (they seem to alternate). The only solution that seems to do anything to fix this problem is to disable the Aero theme, which makes everything run smoothly. Is there any other solution to this problem? I'm using an Nvidia card, by the way, and both monitors are running at the same resolution and refresh rate.
Serious problem: I was copying files from my hard drive to my SSD that I use to boot. There was about 300mb space left and the files were about 200-250mb. When I copied them my computer froze and shut down.
I tried rebooting but nothing happened.
I booted from ubuntu to try and delete some files but the drive did not show up.
I then plugged the drive into a different computer but that could not read it either.
What is wrong and how do I fix it?
Soo is cryptocoin mining worth doing anymore? I'm planning to buy a new rig for 800-1000$ and I'm moving to a student apartment where I don't pay the electricity myself.

I'd be more worried about logging into your bank on Windows XP, seriously you need to upgrade your OS, you're at risk to a variety of security issues

Yeah that's on my checklist. I just need get my external HD to backup my files.
While mining may not be that profitable anymore, I can at least get around as much as the electricity costs, right? I could use my PC to heat up the room at the same time. After all I'm not paying the bill and the student apartments are chilly to save money. I'm getting a new pc anyway, so are there any guidelines for greater profit? AMD cards were better for GPU mining, right?

for scrypt-based coins like litecoin and dogecoin you can use this as a rough sort of guideline

How do I recover data from an SSD that cannot be detected by BIOS?

You ship it to a data recovery company and hope for the best.
Does anyone know where I can get a webcam for preferably £20 or less but at the very most £30 or less that isn't "HD" but is actually decent?
By "HD" i mean the ones that advertise '720p' '1080p' picture and video and it comes out as a blurry fuzzy piece of shit.
I want something that's cheap but works very nicely. I am a poor man

If you have a good camera on your mobile, you can use that. I connect my LG to my computer using wifi and a software called Droidcam. Works great.
Look for any that tickle your fancy on say Amazon, then search in Youtube the model number or something. There's bound to be a video of some guy reviewing it with a preview.
Please tell me why it says I can safely remove and eject my hard drive. What happens if I click it?

It'll just say it's in use.

Some OSes give you an option to eject any device, but if there are files being read or written (which on a system drive there always will be) you won't be able to
