What is the most worthwhile way to purse a career in IT? Also are the A+ and Network+ certs worth it to pursue in a classroom setting if one is sorta autodidactic? I have become more interested than ever in computers and networking lately, and want to do something that does not bore me to tears everyday.
Last night, I could play Dota 2 on medium absolutely no problem. Tonight, it was a slideshow even on low settings. Here's the problem - absolutely nothing has changed between last night and tonight. I didn't change drivers, I'm not running anything I don't normally run, no runaway process taking up all my CPU, Dota's update didn't touch the graphical end of things. This isn't the first time it happened either - a few months ago I was experiencing the exact same problem (except at the time I was trying to play SR3). I shut down the computer for the night and it's back to normal the next day. What gives?

You could also try disabling Windows search indexing, and monitor your CPU/RAM usage when this problem is happening

Are your temps fine?
I didn't check this time but they were fine last time, so unless a fan's stopped spinning and I haven't noticed I would imagine so.
Hi, so my ISP has a fixed network with terrible routing/firewalls/whatever so I can't connect to some servers without a VPN. Now I can't change ISP and I'd prefer not to use a VPN for all of my traffic. Is there a way for me to selectively route applications through a VPN. Something that isn't super expensive and is fast. Right now I'm using PrivateTunnel by the guys behind OpenVPN and it works great apart from the fact that it has prepaid data and it routes all data so it gets expensive. I'm also a poor Uni student so the cheaper the service the better.
Should I get an i7-4930K now or wait for Haswell-E?
quick question just to confirm my suspicions a potentially 'outdated' BIOS wouldn't/shouldn't cause a game to stop working, right?
Maybe, as a bad BIOS can cause general instability. But I would bet at least $10 that its some software/driver issue.
Does anybody know if a motherboard with an 8-pin +12V connector will still work with just a 4-pin +12V connector from the PSU?
Does anybody know if a motherboard with an 8-pin +12V connector will still work with just a 4-pin +12V connector from the PSU?
If you mean for the CPU power, then yes. As long as 4 pin meets your CPUs power requirements.
If you mean for the CPU power, then yes. As long as 4 pin meets your CPUs power requirements.
Yep, I'm talking about the CPU power. Thanks.
So I have a Motorola Surfboard and it won't port forward at all. I've tried putting my external ip in the "External IP" box, and my internal ip, and 0.0.0.0 Any help? Tech Support forum is a joke.
Tech Support forum is a joke.
All my hard work and labor....... Anyway, your external IP will never be 0.0.0.0, so put your real external IP in there. Check the port filtering and port triggers section. Have you checked that the port is open is www.canyouseeme.org ?
not working, unless my server needs to be up when i check on canyouseeme.org
It might need to be, try it with the server up
It might need to be, try it with the server up
Still nope, I get a connection timed out error
Still nope, I get a connection timed out error
Is the firewall on the host PC blocking the connection? Are all incoming connections (not just LAN traffic) on port 80 allowed in the firewall? [editline]2nd May 2014[/editline]
All my hard work and labor....... Normally when you configure an external IP in a port forwarding rule, you are defining which address the connection is addressed to before it is forwarded. It more important in large networks. Obviously it doesn't really matter much to a home grade router though. Curious why they decided to expose that option on it.
Curious why they decided to expose that option on it.
The software on that router is really old, control panel looks like it's from 90s
Is the firewall on the host PC blocking the connection? Are all incoming connections (not just LAN traffic) on port 80 allowed in the firewall?
I edited it in my firewall on my laptop to allow port 80 (I'm using Internet Connection Sharing with my laptop and my raspberry pi) and ran it with the server on and got nothing. [editline]3rd May 2014[/editline] just tried it with port 8080, still nothing [editline]3rd May 2014[/editline] yes i changed the config and stuff [editline]3rd May 2014[/editline] apparently its "Connection timed out" error
Just hooked up a second screen, what's some good dual-monitor software? Preferably free.
try an unusual port, your ISP might block 80/8080 so you don't host things, and maybe restart the thing afterwards.
try an unusual port, your ISP might block 80/8080 so you don't host things, and maybe restart the thing afterwards.
Tried it with port 12558, still nothing. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. My old router did it simple and fast but this one is a bitch.
I'm looking into getting a new GPU, budget around 150-200 euros. Is a R9 270 like this a good idea? http://www.informatique.nl/537480/msi-radeon-r9-270-gaming-2048mb.html I also found a GTX 760 within my budget, which is the better option?
I just realized that I had my sound settings on 192kHz and wondered why "audiodg.exe" was taking up to 50% of my CPU at times... Now after thinking about it, I only have an onboard sound chip and seeing as 48kHz is the default, it's no wonder. Now my actual question is, would a soundcard like the Sound Blaster Audigy Fx 5.1 be worth it? I'm planning on upgrading my PC, but a soundcard for like 30$ is obviously cheaper than a new CPU + RAM + motherboard and for now, I'm still fine with my current setup. It's just that I noticed the difference between 192kHz and 48kHz, especially in music and games like CS:GO. Current setup btw: AMD Athlon 64 x2 5600+ 2GB DDR2 RAM nVidia GeForce 220GT Also I'm using a creative fatal1ty headset, which kinda confuses me, since the datasheet says it's frequence ranges from 20Hz to 20kHz, but I never understood those anyways.

I'm planning on building a new computer and I was wondering if there were any computer cases that gave off the look of 1970's or early 1980's hardware, like in these images. I don't know, but I'm looking for a 1970s terminal to shove a Raspberry Pi into.
