I recently upgraded my pc and got a Gigabyte GTX 660 and I want to be able to use dual monitors. The card has 1 HDMI, 1 displayport, 1 DVI-I and 1 DVI-D. The problem is, both my monitors are VGA - currently my main monitor is plugged into the DVI-I port with a DVI to VGA adaptor. Is it possible to use one of those HDMI to VGA adaptors (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Adapter-Laptop-Power-Free-Raspberry-support-black/dp/B0088K7QUQ) to be able to hook up my second monitor? Sound is not an issue because neither of my monitors have speakers. There are also displayport to VGA adaptors, but I don't know which is better or worse.
I tried a pretty ghetto setup, I have a HDMI to DVI adaptor, then a DVI to VGA adaptor on top of that going straight to my second monitor. Surprisingly the second monitor showed up in the display section in the control panel, but the monitor itself remained blank no matter what settings I used.

I personally use a DisplayPort to VGA adapter, but its probably not going to make a huge difference as they seem to be similar in cost. I chose it as I'm more likely to use HDMI than DisplayPort, leaving it free.
And HDMI -> DVI -> VGA isn't going to work since an HDMI -> DVI adapter just simply connects the correct pins, and DVI -> VGA adapters require a connection to the actual analog pins in the DVI connector (ex, DVI-I), which a HDMI -> DVI connector obviously won't have. It probably shows up though because the DDC information is a universal standard across consumer monitors.
I just got an MSI R9 270. Should I use the mantle drivers?
Hi. The p and 0 buttons on my Lenovo S440 behave weirdly. They dont always react. When they do, they are working just fine after that for a few minutes, however after not using them for some time they go back to being unresosnsive until I hit them a few times.
I tried to take the p out and it was kinda difficult and I broke a tiny tiny bit of it but it works now, however, the inside was clean and the problem persists.
Any tips?
The ribbon cable might be lose, Google on how to remove the keyboard, check cable.
If it's held in place with screws, make sure you have screws in all the spots - my Lenovo ThinkPad's keyboard acts completely randomly if it's missing a screw to hold it down fully.
Would opening it void the warranty? It's only 5 months old.
Can you forward ANY services, like SSH or a Minecraft server or something?
I actually tried it with a Minecraft server because I'm too lazy to go get my Pi and it looks like either all ports are blocked or I'm doing something wrong.

It doesn't look substantially wrong, though, you may want to look up a guide for your router or a similar one.

I think I'm stretching the bounds of the thread, but this is something not really worth making a thread over.
So I'm going off to college next year, so obviously I need to get a laptop. But I'm not really sure what to get. My parents offered to buy it so the budget is a bit higher <$1500. My mom said it it would be cool to get a gaming laptop and leave my desktop at home, but I've noticed a lot of gaming laptops really suck when it comes to battery life. So I'm wondering if I should get something more inclined for office work, or at least has a battery to last through the day, and bring my desktop at somepoint later, or get a gaming laptop, which would eliminate bringing my desktop with, but seem to always have short battery lives and I don't want it puttering out during classes. I don't need help choosing a laptop, I want to know if it would be wiser to get a laptop for work rather than play for college.
Ideally I'd like to be able to pop in a few turns of Civ V or some other minor game without a hitch, but I know that it's functionality for school should be first. But I assume that someone here has already confronted this issue.

Get yourself a mid-tier Macbook Pro.
It'll handle most games you throw at it, the keyboard and trackpad are probably the best on the market, it's got fairly amazing battery life (I get 6-10 hours on my late-2011 MBP. Web browsing, Word, etc.), and it's built like a tank. Also, they have one of the best warranty services of any computer manufacturer I've seen.
Oh, and they last. That's important, because you don't want to be buying a new laptop every year. Mine's still running strong three years in. My brother still uses a 2008 Santa Rosa. They're solid machines.

Well you evidentally have a Motorola SBG6580 as there are dozens of people asking the same question and have that same page. Most of the have their external IP set to 0.0.0.0 (for any), since apparently that means only the listed IP can connect to it (I guess?). Make sure your host PC's IP is set statically. And disable the firewall on the host PC temporarily.

Lies. http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Motorola/SBG6580/defaultguide.htm
You propably just didn't click on "advanced" at the top navigation.
Edit: No wait, seems like you did. Either the guide on portforward is outdated(atleast the screenshots), or your firmware of the router is an older version. Did you try updating that and see if it helps?
Edit 2: Okay now I'm confused as well. Seems like it's not even a router, more so a modem gateway. The official user manual doesn't even have a section about port forwarding. And the firmware seems to be shipped by your ISP. Tbh, I'd just suggest to get a decent router, it'll save you a lot of trouble. Though it also propably means that any time you have a problem where you'd call your ISP, you propably have to switch the router with the modem, atleast my ISP here in germany refuses to help me as long as I'm not using their default hardware.
So, does opening a laptop void the warranty?
I'd have to do all of this:

Look on the bottom. Is there a sticker covering a screwhole?
If so, then yes. If not, then also yes.

........Great?
Although if you can open it up without it any evidence of it being you should be fine. Obviously if you've peeled off a sticker that's not fine :v:

I once had a laptop that had a piece of tape connecting the front and back panels. The only way you could know the tape was there was if you opened it, and there was no way to put it back once you did.
I guess we have industrial adhesive for that now, though. Apple's largely to blame for that, but it works for them because you shouldn't actually have to open the thing.
I'm gunna ask again.
Do you guys see any significant drop in the price of the 7-series any time soon? I'm about to invest in a 770 and was wondering if there were any new worthwile cards in the works.

Doubt it. 560Ti's still go for $200+, why would the 700 series get any cheaper?

Go to DMZ host on the left sidebar, and put the IP address of your Pi in there. Remove your port forwarding rules, then try to see if you can access the HTTP server (via whatever port your RPi is expecting).
DMZ is generally not recommended, but it's a catch-all solution. If this works, then there is something strange going on in your router's config. If this does not work, it's very likely that your ISP is using Stateful Packet Inspection to protect you/them/etc.
Can anyone suggest a decent dual display STAND (not a mount) that fits 2 23" panels for relatively good price?

Monoprice has some good stuff. Have you checked there?

They only do a 2 monitor mount, I was hoping they'd do one with a typical stand.

I know those are the US site, but I'm sure you can find them on the UK site as well.
I have a question about VPN's.
I recently paid for and installed PIA (Private Internet Access) VPN and am using it at the moment. I have it configured to stop DNS leaks, avoid IPv6 and use the Kill Switch (turns off internet connection if VPN is disconnected).
This seems like a pretty good measure of defense for the average web user like myself.
Does anyone have any recommendation for good VPN practices or other methods that you use to secure your traffic?
I'm having an issue.

the first time it happened I thought it was my gpu overheating so I opened up my case and dusted everything then continued on. a day or two later it happened again. then again. Checked speccy when it happened and my gpu was pretty much at it's idle temperature.

So whats the problem? is my GPU just dying?
