I'm having an issue.

the first time it happened I thought it was my gpu overheating so I opened up my case and dusted everything then continued on. a day or two later it happened again. then again. Checked speccy when it happened and my gpu was pretty much at it's idle temperature.

So whats the problem? is my GPU just dying?
Did you plug a known working GPU into it? Have you tried putting a different monitor on that GPU?
I don't have another gpu lying around to test it with and I doubt my brother would appreciate me taking his out to test it. And could it really be the monitor? When it happens it affects both of my monitors.
where can i get a single monitor stand like the ones you get when you get a monitor its for my 24 inch tv?
Oh if it affects both, then I'm betting its the GPU. Better RMA that sucker.

it says 23'' max but it really has more to do with the weight of the tv, in reviews there's someone usin it fo a 27 inch fine, just make sure the vesa mounts are the same
Thinking of getting a AMD FX-8350 Black Edition, clocked at 4 ghz for my current build, then upgrading my GPU to a XFX Double D R9 280X and about 16gb more ram.
Current Specs
ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0
AMD FX-4100 clock at 3.8 right now
AMD XFX Radeon HD 6870
8gb(2x4) G.Skill Sniper
I think it shouldn't be a problem, doing that, since my CPU fucks me over right now, and getting that CPU should keep me in the clear till I get the money for a R9 280X
-Went ahead with the purchase-
Not sure if this is a quick question, but what is a decent place to start looking for ideas/help regarding a home projector setup? I've just realized that my room would be perfect for a nice system, but just a cursory glance at some of the projector prices made me give up the dream pretty quickly. Is there any chance of having a budget 'theatre' (I use that term very loosely, I think I just need the projector at this point) system or should I not even start?

Looking online for a used projector is going to be your best bet, as far as cost goes. However, I would be mindful of condition, most commonly the projector lamp (though there are many things that can go wrong on these). You might be able to pick one up for cheap, but if you have to spend a fortune repairing it, what's the point.
projectors suck, bulbs are like $500, might as well buy a big TV
projectors suck, bulbs are like $500, might as well buy a big TV
Yeah but the problem is I only have a wall free and not the space in front of it. And since that wall is actually quite a thin piece of plaster I don't think I can place a large TV there. Anyway the more I research this the more it seems like a pipe dream. If I can manage to save up 400 - 500 pounds (minimum) I'm sure I can spend it on something much better rather than a projector which I might not even get to use if I have to move.
Thanks for the replies though guys!
Anyone got any thoughts/suggestions for an external hard drive, is there anything in particular to look out for?

Seems like little to choose between these, looking for a 1-2TB drive with USB 3.0 going for portability so 2.5" rather than 3.5".
Tried my computer with a minecraft server running and on dmz host, no dice.
I'm pretty sure I have a modem gateway or whatever it's called, is that a bad thing?

DHCP is your problem, presumably. Your IP changes every so often. Make sure you're giving out the right external IP.

Hasn't changed in probably a month.

Okay... Is your firewall blocking incoming connections on 25565?
Does anyone know a program that you can use to make old games think you have enough memory to play them? I'm trying to get a game to work, but it keeps saying I don't have enough memory to play it even though I obviously do.

At this point, I'd contact your ISP saying that you are unable to connect to your home computer using RDP, and see how they respond.
So I need a new GPU and a new power supply to match it and maybe a SSD. All this will potentially be going onto a z68 mb with a 2500k and 16 gb of ram.
Now I ask for the SSD and gpu, will there be much of a bottle neck with If I do this setup?
Is it a good idea?

For very old games I use DosBox.
For Win95-98 era games I use a virtual machine.
I just opened my PC for a short while to check if there were any dust in it. Blew with my mouth from a distance (to avoid any spit etc.) to check if there were any big chunks. The PC is about 5 months old, so there weren't barely any dust at all.
After I plugged it back in, I saw the usual motherboard image and all that, but then Windows never started, just a black screen. Something similar happened to my laptop a while back, both running Windows 8.
I checked the components via BIOS to see if they somehow broke, but they all seemed fine. So from the BIOS I just "Save & Reboot", and then I see this milli-second BSOD which resulted in another reboot. And after that Windows booted just fine, like nothing had happened.
Error log shows a "Kernel-Power ID 41" BSOD.
Is this just some minor Windows fuck up, or should I be worried?
Any ideas why this happens when I try to open a certain bluray movie file? It used to be opened fine but now it never opens with VLC or any program for that matter (It only happens with this one movie)

I hope this is the right place for this..
I bought a used wireless/wired Xbox 360 controller I intended to use on my pc, I've plugged it in, downloaded drivers from Microsoft and the controllers lights are on and flashing. but I can't seem to get it to work.

Here it is in my Devices.

And here it isn't in my game controllers (software downloaded from microsoft)
Any thoughts on this? I couldn't find anyone with the same problem online.

Just to make sure, do you have a wireless receiver? Just the play & charge kit is not enough.
Dicks, I don't have one. I thought it would be good enough, thanks I guess I gotta get one now.
gat damn, so expensive It cost just as much as a damn controller I thought it was the standard wired one rather than a wireless with a charge kit.
Can anyone tell me a free and lightweight webm recorder? seems like "Webm recorder" on google isn't enough...

You probably knocked something loose when you opened the case. Pop it back open and check that all your wires are seated properly.

You can pick them up on Amazon for cheaper. This one seems to have good reviews: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B00E0OB7MW/ref=pd_sim_vg_6?ie=UTF8&refRID=146SES46DDFZWVZ2220M
What is a good number of connections per second? I'm trying to limit speeds of users over the house on my router but I'm not really sure what I'm doing. What should I look for in order to fairly distribute the bandwidth?
Can anyone recognize what cpu series this is?
