Did some looking around, and Intel has Skylake coming in next year, with [url=http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/display/20140510165441_AMD_to_Introduce_New_High_Performance_Micro_Architecture_in_2015_Report.html]AMD's Excavator line heading in at the end of 2015(Unofficial Information)[/url], and they have Jim Keller (Legendary dude, apparently.) heading that new architecture. But that's, like, end of year 2015. As for my current CPU: FX 6100 I'm probably going to be spending around $500 on a CPU-MoBo upgrade, so it gives me time for saving that money up.
So bit of a weird situation, I have an original P67 Sandy bridge motherboard (the ones that got recalled because of the Sata fuckup) and was wondering if this would cause any issues with upgrading to the latest 1155 CPU's? I have 2500k which is ticking along fine, but I know its a three year old CPU and will probably have to upgrade soonish. EDIT: Well I did what I should of done in the first place and looked up some performance stuff and it looks like the jump in speed isn't that great. Might as well just stick with it until Intel releases a new line of CPU's?
Suggestions for a GPU that can run 3x 2440p displayes, runs AMD (because I want that free-sync thing) and is pretty much silent. thanks
You could ask nicely... Also, I do wonder what you intend to do running what I assume is an eyefinity setup at 2440p on one graphics card. Most people use two or three. I mean, if you're going to be gaming on them, you'll want something quite beefy, and you won't want to lose graphics performance rendering three displays at full 2440p. Then again, I could be misunderstanding this entirely. EDIT: Also, what monitors actually support free sync right now? You know that's built into the hardware, right? Have you already gotten your monitors picked out? To add: Three displays. AMD. Silent. Pick two.
FreeSync got added to the VESA spec recently, because the only thing it depends on is the monitor supporting something that's already a part of the spec, so screens that support it are going to be popping up a lot.

Do you mean 1440p? Or 2160p? Or 3200x2400? Or 3840x2400? 2) Do you need a GPU that can run a desktop at that resolution, or do you need one that can run games at that resolution? If it's the latter, you're not looking at a single card - you're looking at, at the minimum, a dual CrossFire setup, probably a triple or quadruple CrossFire setup. Which is going to be both expensive and loud, but since you're dropping at least $1500 on the monitors I'm sure you can afford it. 3) While FreeSynch does not require additional hardware, it is not universally compatible. Make sure your monitors support variable V_BLANK.
Just a general question My CPU isn't showing any problems, it's about 4-5 years old and works like a charm I only recently bought a new cooler and some thermal paste for it but I'm wondering when will I need to worry about replacing it Like I said it's doing great for what I need it to do but when the day comes when it becomes obsolete what should I do? Can I simply replace it with the existing mobo or do I need to buy a new mobo all together?

If it's using an old socket then you might have to get a new mobo for a new CPU when the time comes.

So for example my i5 2500k uses the LGA 1155 socket type. Motherboards have a specific socket type which dictates which CPUs you can use it with. What CPU do you have currently?

Turns out I accidentally posted this in GD, doi I've got a Barracuda drive that's a year old and was throwing out exorbitant numbers of SMART failures in its log (and failed SEATOOLS), got a return authorisation valid for 2 weeks yesterday but after doing an ATA SECURE ERASE on it it's now passing all the tests I throw at it (quick / extended SMART, verify / write / verify, read / read / compare). Do you guys think it's safe to redeploy it and cancel the RMA considering it'll probably pass the RMA test (unless they look at the failure log)? It's part of a ZRAID array so failure isn't the end of the world, but there's another WD drive in there that I think might be on its way out and I don't want to overstress it with lots of resilvers

So if you were to upgrade you'd need a new mobo too.

Has anyone got experience with 4k monitors woul a gtx 670 be able to support it running games on it while also supporting a secondary 1080p monitor? And are there any games which actually support 4k yet?
the 670 can output over DisplayPort or maybe DL-DVI at up to 4096 x 2160. so most likely, yes also, more and more modern games support the resolution. UI scaling is often messed up, but it'll still work
and most of the good old games will support any resolution

But do not expect to max out heavy games at 2160p unless you're running some kind of obscene quad-SLI setup or something. Many games support 4K - it's still a 16:9 ratio, and as long as it can both determine available resolutions and scale UI elements, you should be able to run even old games just fine.
you probably could run modern games on medium without AA at that resolution (not like you'd need AA in the first place) with a 670
How do you guys decide how much a used rig is worth? I'm thinking about selling my desktop rig and I don't know how much to ask for. I assume add up how much each part is worth and detract a certain percent off the total figure because its used?
Also, you can always run the games at a lower resolution, and still experience less aliasing and pixelation because reasons. Isn't that what the Oculus guys are doing?

Isn't that what the Oculus guys are doing?[/QUOTE] no, the reason a higher resolution screen running at a lower res benefits the oculus is because there is less space between the pixels (aka a screen-door). this only matters if you have your face literally pressed against the monitor it won't make aliasing any better, at most it'll just make your game look ever so slightly fuzzy depending on how good your scaling hardware is

Just assembled a new PC, but everytime I try booting it up, it goes fine for about 2 seconds, then reboots. I don't have an internal speaker, so there aren't any beep codes to go by, but I am using an aftermarket cooler. I've made sure it's seated properly, and all the fans are plugged into the appropriate plugs. Any ideas? Just tried installing the stock fan, still doesn't boot properly
Just a short question. I have an Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q6700 @ 2.66GHz, ranks a 7.2 in Windows Experience. I never noticed any slowdown in any program, and can get a soild 60+ FPS in new games. However after seeing the minimum requirements for Wolfenstein: The New Order being an i7, how much longer until I have to upgrade?
Okay, so my 60GB SSD is taken up by Windows Updates, Redist Packages for steam games, and Visual Studio stuff, I wanted to increase storage on my C:\ Drive anyway, should I go cheaper and just buy a hard-drive (Hard to find any SATA 3 hard-drives as small as I need), or spend a bit more dosh and get a 120GB SSD? In terms of SSD's I'm either thinking a [URL="http://www.scan.co.uk/products/128gb-toshiba-25-ssd-sata-iii-6gb-s-19nm-mlc-flash-read-534mb-s-write-471mb-s-85000-iops-35000-iops-"]Toshiba 128GB[/URL] or a [URL="http://www.scan.co.uk/products/120gb-samsung-840-evo-sata-iii-basic-slim-7mm-3-core-mex-controller-read-540mb-s-write-410mb-s-256mb"]Samsung 120GB[/URL]. Never looked into it either, but is a hybrid drive any good?

Windows updates shouldn't permanently take up space, they download temp installer files that should be removed, if they're not you can use CCleaner to remove them. Steam redist files can be deleted manually too

I meant 1440p, sorry, and I'm only intending to use the main screen for gaming and free-sync (2x dvi-d + 1 display port) I'm going to buy a mini ITX board, so I can't have more than one GPU. While talking about MBs, is there any recommended MBs for 2500k? and is the 2500k too weak in your opinion? I'm assuming the CPU have little input for displaying three screens. Looking at Asrock 1155 ASRock Z77E-ITX, since it's one of the few 1155 socket mITX boards available in Norway Huge thanks :) And I didn't mean to be rude woolio, sorry.
