I have a TN monitor right now, and I want some thing without the white glow on the edges and maybe with deeper blacks in general. Do IPS panels have brighter or deeper blacks than TN panels?
depends on the panel. typically yes, but low grade IPS panels aren't that much better
Eh what? Linux can read NTFS, I have no clue by what you mean by properly shutting down. If you're storing the music on linux use ext4
For whatever reason it would tell me to properly shut down windows, no hibernation or quick boot (I think it called it that) But I switched it to ext4 and it seems to work well, thank you
For whatever reason it would tell me to properly shut down windows, no hibernation or quick boot (I think it called it that) But I switched it to ext4 and it seems to work well, thank you
Windows 8 by default doesn't "shut down" in the traditional sense - instead it closes all processes except for some MS services and winlogon.exe, then hibernates. There's a button to turn it off somewhere but it results in Windows 8 starting up slightly slower.
I obtained a Dell Dimension E520 with a Pentium D, a Dell PowerEdge SC440 with a Xeon 3040, and a Dell Vostro 220S with a Core 2 Duo E8400. The Vostro's case is too small and has only two slots for RAM, so I would like to take the Core 2 Duo out and put it into either one of the other computers since it is the most powerful processor of the bunch (please correct me if I am wrong), they have four RAM slots, bigger cases, and the same sockets. I don't know which one I should put it in for my purposes. I am going to use it as a server for LAN parties and maybe a home server eventually. I don't know if the PowerEdge's Xeon motherboard will even work with the Core 2 Duo. The PowerEdge has a gigabit ethernet PCI card I would like to use that should be easy to move into the Dimension if I decide to use it. Any suggestions?

All of those processors run on different chipsets and use different sockets.
None, because it's not possible. [editline]18th May 2014[/editline] They all have different nm sizes, is that what makes a difference?
How can I make Windows properly shut down so that my Linux partition can read a NTFS formatted drive? Or would it be better if I used another file system, if so, what would be good to store music with?
I'm guessing this is Windows 8, if so try holding down shift when you click the shutdown button.

I'd replace it on the computer that's better-spec'ed otherwise.

Got my i5 / 640m laptop for $500
I think my reliable PC is about to die, at least the harddrives. Not sure, so going to ask. 1) PC randomly makes grinding noises. Sometimes these noises go on for awhile, sometimes it doesn't happen 2) PC makes squeaking noises 3) PC randomly reboots. 4) PC goes into a reboot loop unless I shut it down for a few minutes and then restart it.

Weird grinding and noises can be from a fan bearing going out, and your PC might be overheating if the fan doesn't spin fast enough. Run your PC with the case cover off and listen for where the noise is coming from. Bearing noise can come and go as well. Back up your data if your paranoid though, just in case.

I even put a fan infront of the PC to help. I wish I could change the temp for the room, but no matter what, even if the rest of the apartment is icy cold, this room is hot.
Any opinions here if I should sell my old motherboard, 212 evo, and some ram and buy 16gb@2133 or hold onto it for the unlocked pentium and mess around with that?
Is there any way I can mass download album art for my mp3's the way Cailbre does it? Doing it 1 by 1 is gonna take forever.
i have a nice sturdy metal chair, I have no idea how it adjusts height though. The lever on it only stops or allows it to recline, and another stops or allows it to go forward, spinning it doesn't seem to work so I don't think it's pneumatic, but I can tell it is meant to adjust since the part connecting the base to the chair has an adjustable cover. any idea how? or maybe somewhere to look for identifying marks to see who makes the chair?
I have a 2500K OC @ 4.1Ghz with a Radeon 7950 3GB, should I upgrade my CPU to a 4770k for PC gaymen or will I not notice a difference?
Little to no chance you'll really notice a difference. Especially with the price tag of an i7 and new mobo. Hold off until at least broadwell
Yeah that 2500k will do for a while. Most games don't use multithreading anyway.
With the exception of massive jumps like the p4 to the core2duo, I'd generally stick with an Intel proc until 3-4 generations past it.
Got a 450GTS from a mate, nice replacement for my 220GT. However, my PSU is a cheap Techsolo TP380W, with 380W. The card runs fine though and I just did a quick test with furmark and after about 6 minutes of the burn in benchmark, it still ran fine. However I'm curious if I could run into any problems, since nVidia suggests 400W for that card. Would there be a better way to put the card under full load, so I can see if the PSU fails to deliver the power?

Your system may not come close to the max wattage of the PSU either. 400W is just a recommendation to make sure you have enough power for all the components in your machine. Supposedly, the 450GTS only uses around 110W. However, it is a cheap PSU, so its power capacity could dip at any time due to age.
However, it is a cheap PSU, so its power capacity could dip at any time due to age.
That's why I got curious. So far I know it was bought in 2006. Anyways, my other specs are as follows: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+, 2,9ghz nVidia Geforce 450GTS 2GB DDR2 RAM 320GB SATA HDD Now in my eyes, those shouldn't push the PSU to it's limits, but then again I have little to no knowledge about all this hardware stuff, besides how to build it into my PC.

If the PSU has held up, it will probably be fine. If you start getting random reboots or instant shutdowns, replace the PSU ASAP.
Recently upgraded my EVO 212 to a Corsair H100i and I cannot seem to get a stable overclock over 4.0ghz on my 4670k. My temps are fine and everything. Is my CPU just a really shitty overclocker?
Can anyone give me a short brief on what's better with r9 290x over 280x?
http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-R9-290X-vs-Radeon-R9-280X Its got pretty much more of everything
Does anyone have any suggestions for a 1080p monitor? I've been using my TV for the last 4 years and I'm sick of it to be honest. I'm no hardware knowitall and I have no idea what I'm looking for technically. The most I want is just a crisp look with no (or at least, as little as possible) input lag that'd be great for gaming. The problem is there's just so many things that it just becomes somewhat confusing and irritating to look through everything, so I'm kinda guilty that I'm putting part of the burden on you - but just a general pointer or two would be useful.
What budget are you looking at? Asus has some top notch budget ones with 3ms to 1ms delay, while LG has some very budget friendly IPS panels
