Stick away from HP. Especially the dv series. Chipset failures left and right unless they've done some serious changes with their 8 machines.
So I have a USB to serial DB9 RS232 adapter and a female2female serial adapter. I'm trying to wire it to 4 AA batteries to send signals to/from my computer. How should I go about this? Do I need any extra IC's? Or can I do this simply with the voltage signals and a few resistors?
Nvm I figured it out
Do you have any tips for me to avoid hyperthreaded processors? I'm not sure how bad of an impact it would have on performance and I have no idea how to see if they're hyperthreaded or not.
check out amazon warehouse deals, you get new stuff labeled 'used' generally because the box was damaged
Holy shit, it's like every time I find the perfect computer, something is sucky. Processor all good? Resolution sucks. Resolution, memory, screen size okay with an i5/i7 processor? LOL, U at the end of the processor model so it's a hyperthreaded load. Ugh.

They're standardized, top-of-the-line, solidly-built machines. Have you taken a look at any refurbished/used models?
snip, nevermind. I think I'll just make a thread.
Nvidia have some troubles with drivers, so tell me what is the last PROPER driver for it?
nvidia don't generally have driver problems? use the latest stable and if it is buggy for you, rollback to the previous version
nvidia don't generally have driver problems? use the latest stable and if it is buggy for you, rollback to the previous version
There was time when nvidia driver burned my card, so that's not "no problems". Now 337.88 was released and there are a lot of reports of BSOD, not proper installations and some after install can't see their GPU. I had a long AMD pause and now bought 760 hawk, so I want to be carefull
What's a good mouse pad that's big enough to cover both a keyboard AND a mouse, prefer not to be a rubber type either?
What's a good mouse pad that's big enough to cover both a keyboard AND a mouse, prefer not to be a rubber type either?
Rubber on the top or bottom? I love my Corsair mm200, and tbry make a full cover model for like 35 bucks
Would I be better off buying a second GTX 570 and making them SLI or buying a completely new GTX 750 and doing away with the 570? [editline]27th May 2014[/editline] I just looked for a GTX 570. Looks like I may have answered my own question. 750, ho!
Would a GTX 780Ti be bottlenecked by my i5 2500k?
Would a GTX 780Ti be bottlenecked by my i5 2500k?
Nope
What's a general CPU cooler that I could add to any budget build? (<2000$) I always thought Hyper Evo 212 was entry-level enough for anything, and Noctuas were for overclocking.
Work backwards physically. Does it affect only the current PC, or all devices on the network? If it does affect all of them, connect a PC straight to the modem, to bypass the router. If not, check your Ethernet cable or NIC connection. If it still cuts out connected to the modem, then you either have a modem, line signal problem, or ISP problem.
It affects all devices. Tried using a laptop connected to the router using only an ethernet cable and it was still doing it. I was messing about with some modem settings and it seems to be slightly improved but I have no idea if it was my doing or if it's just going through a good period. I'm going to let my PC ping google for 30 mins and see how much packet loss there is. If there's a lot then I don't think it's on my end. On my modem stats page I had low SNR (6~ upstream, 10~ downstream) so maybe that is the cause.
After using my iPhone 4 for 3 years I'm looking into new alternatives. Currently looking at Samsung Galaxy S5 - How legit is it compared to, say, iPhone 5S? So far I've heard only it being better than iPhone in almost all ways, is that true? Any other choices?

However, Out of 6000 packets only about 4 were lost so I am really confused now. I'll ring my ISP tomorrow and see what they say.

Too many splitters can seriously hurt modem performance, especially if the cabling is pretty old or low quality.
After using my iPhone 4 for 3 years I'm looking into new alternatives. Currently looking at Samsung Galaxy S5 - How legit is it compared to, say, iPhone 5S? So far I've heard only it being better than iPhone in almost all ways, is that true? Any other choices?
Well this forum generally has a bias against Apple, but there are a lot of people who prefer iOS over Android, me being one of them, I found iOS had a generally smoother experience in terms from when I last tried Android, but Android is always improving and solving the problems that I had. Android is great because you can practically do anything with it, whereas you're limited on iOS. In terms of specs it's a hard thing to compare because iPhones are released once a year whereas you have Android devices releasing throughout the year. I'd recommend maybe you play around with a friend's Android phone for a bit, or go in store and play around with one

On intel, if you're shooting for above a 4.5ghz overclock I'd say go with a noctua. I was extremely happy with my 212 evo though until I went for my custom loop
going from a 570 to a 750 seems somewhat pointless
How so? Such minimal gain?
pretty much no noticeable gain. what 570 do you have, by the way? [editline]28th May 2014[/editline] the only thing you gain are the new architecture features which i'm not even sure the 750 supports all of. save up more for a 760ti/770

It's strange that it's only started doing it recently and no router or modem settings have been changed so I'm guessing it might be the phone line.
