these are sold as 'used' but generally there's only a mark on the box or something
if you have two screens of equal size, one is 1080p and the other 4K, will 1080p content on the 4k screen look worse than if it were on the 1080p screen or will it look the same on both?

It will only look worse on the 4k screen if you fullscreen it, otherwise it will just be smaller due to much higher ppi. You could just sit further from the screen and negate that effect though i think
it wouldn't look worse, it should look better if your players upscaling doesn't suck. why would it be worse?
In my experience upscaling always looks shit and blurry, so ignore me if there is actually a way to make it look good
It should be fine since 1080p is an exact ratio to 4k.
if the screen is the same physical size and you upscale content properly it should look pretty much the same

3840 x 2160 is anyways, that's what most 4k displays use

Yeah, that's what I assume when people say 4k
Is there a motherboard that has hybrid cooling (works on air but has hookups for liquid cooling) like the Maximus Formula, but isn't made by Asus? They have absolutely horrible customer service and quite frankly I no longer trust them with anything expensive.
Needs to be Z97 by the way, but if it's not out yet I don't have a problem waiting. It'll be months before I can commit to this rig anyways, and I'm still up in the air about waiting for GM104 vs. GK110.
Edit: I'm aware of the MSI Mpower Max, but it's kind of ugly, so I'm looking for yet more alternatives.
The MSI mpower max has water hookups
The MSI mpower max has water hookups
You must have just posted that as I edited. I found that, and honestly it looks hideous to me. The yellow doesn't match anything, and the massive M brandings are also hard to ignore.
I also found a Gigabyte Gaming G1 Black Edition that has water hookups, but that also doesn't look as good as the Maximus does (honestly, if it weren't for it being Asus, I wouldn't even be bothering asking). Normally I'm nowhere near this picky, but if I'm going to be spending over three grand on a computer, I want it to look classy.
I'm not going to be buying this for a while anyways, I'm just trying to get a feel for what's out there.
If I were to spend three grand on a computer, I'd get the case custom machined out of billet aluminum...
But that's just me. Good luck with yours.
this might be a silly question, but i my mic only plays on the left side of my headphones, is there anyway to make it play on both side?
Whats the cheapest most silent CPU I could find for under the price of £40? Sounds ridicules but I really dont care what brand it is (it could be casio for all I care) as long as its an ATX one thats below 150mm.
Any ideas?
[editline]13th June 2014[/editline]
To give you an idea about how much I dont give a damn about brands, I have been using an unbranded 600 watt PSU for over 3 years over 2 builds which still works perfect to this very day, so I really dont mind.
[editline]13th June 2014[/editline]
(edit button still broken so sorry about this)
Reason I need it quiet is because my brothers office is in the room where all the networking is and thats where this machine is gonna go (itl be a home server) so I dont really need it to be anything above 500 watts.

im so confused by this question
1. below 150mm????? what its a cpu
2. 'atx cpu'
3. 'quiet' cpus don't produce sound, so you'll just be using the stock heatsink
4. 500 watts ???????????????????????????????
ok i think you mean PSU
Gah! I meant to put PSU....... Sorry :p. I was in the intense process of thinking of what CPU would be best while trying to ask about a PSU, my brain is too small....
spend a bit more than 40 quid on a psu
for your own safety
I built my PC and I can't get a fucking signal to the monitor to actually do anything with it. I've got a graphics card plugged in but I haven't been able to get the drivers for it (obviously). I'm not even using it, though, I've got my monitor connected to the mobo's VGA ports and it's not recognizing it for some reason.

You can get a fine a PSU for $40 (though there are shit ones as well), at least with MIR and such. It's when you get in the ~$30 range you really need to watch out - maybe you can find one or two decent 300W, but there's really nothing for a gaming setup in that segment.
What anti-virus software is worth investing in? I have the free version of avast!, but I'm wonder if I should upgrade to the full version or look at other anti-virus software.

You should never have to pay for antivirus software. Ever.
Pick up something like Avira or AVG, they usually score pretty well on their free offerings. Outside of that, just use some common sense. If you're really worried, consider sandboxing.
So my friend got a computer of some relative, and threw a radeon HD 7800 in it.
But I wonder, will the CPU bottleneck this GPU? I'm kinda doubting here.

In terms of a 22" - 24" monitor, which brand would you guys recommend that can also be wall-hung?
I can't say a model number exactly, but I've always used Samsung monitors/TVs. They've got some really sexy ones out right now but they weren't wall mounted. I've heard good things about ASUS monitors too. Also Dell maybe. Have a look on www.ebuyer.com.
Thanks, I'll take a look.
Unrelated because it doesn't match your requirements, but I love the look of this monitor. I think I want it. http://www.ebuyer.com/641287-samsung-u28d590-28-4k-60hz-led-monitor-lu28d590ds-en
And...

Real sleek.
I like the look of this one; http://www.ebuyer.com/393375-acer-g246hlbbid-24-led-lcd-hdmi-monitor-um-fg6ee-b01
Don't know if you, or anyone else, has any experience with Acer monitors?
Not personally but it seems decent, has a lot of good feedback.
Monitors seem to be the only product acer can make correctly
