Depends on the size you need. In the UK a 1TB external hard drive will cost around £45-50. Check the sizes of the folders you'll be copying over and add them together, then find a external hard drive that is bigger than that size.
Is there no way you can keep the hard drive you have now and just put it in the new PC? That would save money and time.
While installing a Hyper 212 evo i must have accidentally bumped it because it isn't dead straight, it's notably offset by about 4-5 degrees, i'm wondering if this will be a problem, it is properly locked down and wont move at the moment and i'm getting good temperatures too.

As long as the contact surface is covering the entire processor, you're fine.

Yeah it is, i might re-seat it when i put new fans in at somepoint.
Thanks
I decided on a 780 and picked it up for 430 but now i might need a new cpu. I have an i5 3570k but i'm looking at the i5 4690k as well

for gaming that CPU will still be good for a while, unless you need hyperthreading for some reason
you don't really need a new cpu

and won't for a while to come unless you want HT for certain applications that are anything but games
My one problem with it is, that when i oc the clock speed stays the same
My one problem with it is, that when i oc the clock speed stays the same
What do you mean?
are you pushing it? intel CPUs don't run at a constant clock speed. open CPUZ and run an FFT torture test in Prime95 and see where the clock speed ends up then
I'm looking to get a new GPU, I'm mostly eyeing a 780 TI to go with my 4770k because I'm pretty sure my 560 TI is a major bottleneck, should I get it now or should I wait for the 800 series (If that's coming out any time soon?) Mostly the reason I'm upgrading is because the latest games struggle to run on my 2560x1600 monitor.
just get the 780ti now
I rearranged my computer setup, and as a result i needed to get an extension cord for my headphone jack so my headphones wouldn't be stretched out. I could only manage to get a 3 conductor extension cable, and my regular headphones are 4 conductor. I've tried using 3 conductor headphones but the sound quality on them makes me want to puke. Does anyone know if there's a way for me to get my 4 condutcor headphones working properly on the 3 conductor cord?
Basically it's a stereo cable and my usual headphones also have something for the middle part of audio... I think... and the middle part of audio is left out when I use them together
My headphones are like this

and my extension cord receives this:

Usually, the 4 conductor types are used for special applications like headsets or player buttons on the cord. Most sane stereo equipment only uses the 3 conductor, since its enough for ground, left and right channel. You say its for the "middle channel" but that can be inferred by putting the sound on both L and R channels. You only have 2 speakers.
Other than finding a 4 conductor extension or making an adapter your SOL, as the actual connector isn't aligning correctly. I have no idea why yours has a 4 conductor though, that's really weird for plain headphones.

Thanks for spelling it out a little better for me. I've never really dabbled in audio and it's a little overwhelming at first.
Well, they're a pair of Apple headphones, so that's probably the reason for the 4 conductors, but they don't have the volume control button on it.
I assumed there was a "middle channel" issue because when I played music or games, I could only hear things that were playing distinctively in either the left or right channel, not anything that would be playing in both.
And now I'm looking to purchase a new pair of headphones (earbuds, to be specific) but it seems like all the decent ones have volume adjustment buttons now, so they're likely to be 4 conductor.
[sp]this turned out way more complicated than I wanted it to be[/sp]

If they have a mic on them, they are technically a headset and the 4th conductor is for the mic. Probably designed for iPhones. Mind you, a lot of the time its no big deal. Many jacks will accept the 4 conductor one as the jack is deep and usually left and right channel is in the normal spot. What's probably happening with the extender is that it isn't deep enough (or maybe the other way around), so you aren't getting a good connection, hence the really weird audio problems you get with them.
At this point, your options are:
*New headphones that use a 3 conductor jack (which is about 90% of most headphones so that's really easy but costs $$$).
*Make an adapter or find one. In theory it wouldn't be hard.
*Get 4 conductor extender, if they even exist.
Anyone recognize this? After an application goes fullscreen, my main monitor does this every now and then. When it happens I have to restart the entire computer, I have tried just turning SLi off but that results in the main GPU just turning itself off and staying off until I've booted in safe mode and enabled it in the device manager.

For my new job I have to print off a few forms and fill them in, unfortunately one of the forms they sent me is a weird pdf. It only has one 'page' (at the top it says 1/1) but that page has buttons to navigate to other pages but when I try to print it off it'll only print off the first page.
This is the pdf if you want to look at it yourself: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/forms/starterchecklist.pdf
Does anyone have any ideas about how I might print off all the pages?
edit: fixed nvm

You can use a trs extension with a trrs headphones with no loss in sound quality, any difference you're hearing is imagined
Trrs headsets are designed in such a way that they work with standard headphone jacks or with ones that accept an extra ring for microphones

Though it is possible the extender is attempting to get the signal in the wrong place, or is faulty.
Does anyone know of any software to convert Webm to mp4?
Um, surely this comes up in google? Or are you looking specifically for for freeware?
So, I tried installing Linux on a shitty netbook I had lying around, and I restarted after it said it successfully installed Ubuntu. I'm stuck at this screen with nothing happening but the line ticking in and out. I think it maaaaayyyy have wiped the whole drive.

My question is, what do I do from here? Is this salvageable? Or is this thing garbage now?
Good news, you've still got the BIOS. Or EFI, I guess, since it's 2014.
Anyway, just hold F11 at boot, and select your installation media. You'll have a chance to try to reinstall Linux.

But I'd need a USB, CD or SD for that, right? I installed using an internal installer that didn't require any of those.
[editline]21st June 2014[/editline]
Tried holding F11, F8, F2, F12, at startup, with two main results.
F11: The computer makes a long beep and nothing happens.
F2, F8, F12: Nothing happens.

I think http://handbrake.fr/ will do that.

You would need an external installer, yes. And it can be literally ANY of the function keys, tab, delete, escape, enter for the boot menu. I've seen so many. But dell usually keeps it fairly consistent with F12. Gotta spam it on startup.

I used to have this problem on my laptop (8600m GT) and I "think" it may be related to overheating as a restart usually fixed it. is the right side of your monitor partially normal? mine was distorted like your pics on about 3/4 of the screen while all the way to the right it was fine.
what are the temperatures of the GPU? I doubt it's failing since the laptop which has these issues is still alive after years of that problem

anyone know what might cause this by the way?

it started happening after installing my new SSD (840 EVO 250GB). this didn't happen on my old SSD or when the OS was installed on my HDD while I waited for the new SSD. I suspected samsung's rapid function as I heard it uses RAM, but even with it disabled this happens. not sure if the issue is only present with Titanfall as I haven't tried anything else yet. the RAM usage is at max around 5GB, so I'm not running out of RAM that's for sure
speccy if that'll help

seems to be the case for all programs which take a decent amount of resources from the computer. a bird told me that increasing the pagefile size could fix it. mine is currently set at an initial of 200MB but max of 1GB
Check to see those program's memory usage when you launch them.
Is it possible to make a gif into a wmv file and keep the same resolution? I want to make it a wallpaper and I know you can set wmv files as animated wallpapers with a program.
