I used to have this problem on my laptop (8600m GT) and I "think" it may be related to overheating as a restart usually fixed it. is the right side of your monitor partially normal? mine was distorted like your pics on about 3/4 of the screen while all the way to the right it was fine. what are the temperatures of the GPU? I doubt it's failing since the laptop which has these issues is still alive after years of that problem
Both the GPUs reach 80C when doing Furmark and IntelBurnTest aka 100% load on both CPU and GPUs, idle hovers around ~30C. So I am pretty sure that isn't an issue. And its the entire screen, not just partial. Last day i got this page on various websites such as youtube and wikipedia. [T]http://horobox.co.uk/u/BaddestMormon_1403500436.png[/T] Tried scanning rootkits and system, but apparently i can't find anything. Any ideas on how to fix this? Because searching this thing in google only yields one result.

My power supply makes a lot of noise. I think the bearings might be going on the fan in it. Would lubing the bearing help?
When i boot up my computer and use it, memory use is around 1.9-2.35 GB. But when i put my computer to sleep and wake it up memory sticks around 1.4-1.8 and stays there. Why is that?
How can I set a simple transparent png icon as my start button?
How can I set a simple transparent png icon as my start button?
I use this But if you want more options and other things to customize, there's this In order to change the start orb, you'll have to create an image for when it's idle, highlighted, and clicked on, put them together into one image with specific dimensions, and save it as a .bmp
My cpu is perfect i'm just being dumb now so i should be set for my new setup but i kinda want to pick up another 8gb of ram. Should it be the same model?
I have a question regarding how PSUs work. Mine is 500W, and if I'm looking at a potential replacement of my current GPU that needs 500W, does that mean it'll use all of the PSU's power or does it mean that the PSU can distribute a maximum of 500W to each part it's connected to? About bottlenecking; how many of a computer's components can bottleneck eachother? Is it primarily the CPU and GPU or is also the RAM and the motherboard part of the equation? I'm looking to possibly upgrade my GPU by replacing my currently 4 years old one with a much more recent one, and I'm just wondering if there are any other components that I'll have to upgrade while I'm at it. Or maybe I should just build a new computer if it's too much of a hassle upgrading several components now that this computer is 4 years old.

What matters is your PSU quality what's the brand/model and GPU you're getting?

Also, very few GPUs need 500W on their own - the only one I know of is the Radeon R9 295X2, which is an absolute beast of a GPU. If your GPU says it needs 500W, that's probably a recommended amount for the whole system. If you add up the power used by all your parts, you may find a much different number.
About bottlenecking; how many of a computer's components can bottleneck eachother? Or maybe I should just build a new computer if it's too much of a hassle upgrading several components now that this computer is 4 years old.
Technically speaking, anything can be the bottleneck. However, the most common case is for a slow CPU to be unable to send the GPU draw instructions fast enough, so the GPU is significantly underused. You will *always* have a bottleneck. You can spend a hundred million dollars on your computer and it will still have some part that is the slowest. What you want to do, generally, is not waste too much money by buying a powerful part that will be limited by some other part of the system. For the most extreme example, if your CPU is an old Atom, you won't see any difference between that $1500 Radeon 295X2 and a $200 Radeon 270X, because the Atom will be slowing both of them down to the same speed. On the other hand, if you're running an old 8600GT, it doesn't matter whether you're running on a $100 Celeron or a $1000 Core i7 - the GPU won't be able to keep up. So just try to keep your parts generally lined up. Bottlenecks also depend on what you're running - different programs stress different parts of the system in different ways, so even on a well-balanced rig, some games will bottleneck slightly on the CPU, others will bottleneck slightly on the GPU. Main RAM speed is normally only a bottleneck if you're using an integrated GPU, or if you're running certain weird workloads (Minecraft used to be memory-IO bound on my desktop, not sure if that's still the case). Video RAM speed is often the bottleneck within the GPU, but since you can only change that by upgrading the GPU entirely it doesn't really matter. Storage is usually a bottleneck only for loading times. And motherboards don't really affect speed much to begin with, they just determine how much things can connect to (there is DPC latency, but odds are good you don't care *that* much).

But how about any bottlenecking with my between CPU (linked it in my post above yours) and the GTX 760? I'm looking to upgrade to be able to play Natural Selection 2 and GTA 5 in the future. NS2 has lagged on all settings since the early beta, checked their optimization page and tried out the r_stats command, it says "waiting for GPU". I'd love to be able to play it. You know what, maybe I should even get an SSD for my OS while I'm at it. I hate reinstalling windows and all my programs and games, but maybe I should just bite the bullet and do it for a massive increase in overall performance.
Would anybody happen to know how I'd fix this? [t]http://i.gyazo.com/3bcf3935b318a05aae6643bc81a6f78b.png[/t] [editline]23rd June 2014[/editline] The motherboard is the Asus M5A97 Evo R2.0, since I figured you might need that info.

I'd suggest picking a new one up when you get the cash. It won't bottleneck your GPU to the point that you won't see a performance increase. And your PSU should be good.
Any suggestions for a replacement CPU along with a GTX 760?
Then you're basically looking at a whole new computer. You probably won't be bottlenecked too bad, your CPU should do 60FPS in most games, so unless you're using a 120Hz monitor, you'll most likely not have to concern yourself with that.

GTA5 might be problematic, though - GTA4 was horribly CPU-heavy, but that might just have been a bad port job. Most other games should work fine though. If r_stats currently says 'waiting for GPU', it probably means you're currently bottlenecked on your GPU. An SSD is definitely worth it, but won't really help with games (other than loading times - if you can fit games onto one, I usually install games to HDD because a big SSD is expensive). PS: To help with the reinstall pain, Ninite lets you easily install a bunch of programs at once.
Okay so to summarize if I'm to upgrade anything it would be better to just build a new computer.
No, a GPU upgrade alone might be enough. I would do that first. If you find you're still not getting enough performance, and your CPU is the problem, then I would do a CPU/mobo upgrade. And while I recommend an SSD upgrade as well, that is independent of the other two upgrades.
What's your budget/a couple sites you can order from?
Budget for the GPU would be around 2000 SEK or 300 USD, but I'm prioritizing good compability with my existing hardware and at the same a priceworthy and worthwhile upgrade. is there anyway to move my c drive to a different disk? I just reinstalled windows and told it to install on disk 0, but it only installed the system reserved files there and it put c on disk 1 could I move c to the unallocated space in disk 0?
I've got myself a second hand SSD for free which I pulled out of a 2012-14 Dell Latitude at my internship, and I wonder if it's healthy enough for at least another year of usage. [T]http://i.imgur.com/NXVSMKT.png[/T] [T]http://i.imgur.com/2qnntw4.png[/T] Is it good to go to continue usage? The summary says it's all good, and has 100% estimated life remaining, but I heard these diagnostic programs aren't the most reliable at all times. I've already disabled defragmenting, configured the paging to run on my Seagate drive only, and disabled the index on the SSD.

I'd still keep backups of important stuff, but I'd be doing that even on a brand-new drive.
Wait is that saying its total written is 250GB?
Apparently. All that was installed on it before me installing Windows 7 on it was XP Professional. That laptop was thrown out because the display failed. It booted XP fine. But the thing was, when we connected this drive to two different computers, both of them had issues reading it. The guy used a Linux version to try and repartition the drive, and he read the SMART data back then. It showed warning signs all over, multiple times old age because of the run time, and pre-failure at one SMART value. When he tried to read it in Windows on his test computer, disk management refused to partition it, and he was only able to read the drive using a SATA-USB controller. But I took it home, hooked it up, formatted it as NTFS and it showed up in Explorer straight away. Currently I run Windows 7 off it, and it works fine for now.
