Apparently.
All that was installed on it before me installing Windows 7 on it was XP Professional.
That laptop was thrown out because the display failed. It booted XP fine.
But the thing was, when we connected this drive to two different computers, both of them had issues reading it.
The guy used a Linux version to try and repartition the drive, and he read the SMART data back then.
It showed warning signs all over, multiple times old age because of the run time, and pre-failure at one SMART value.
When he tried to read it in Windows on his test computer, disk management refused to partition it, and he was only able to read the drive using a SATA-USB controller.
But I took it home, hooked it up, formatted it as NTFS and it showed up in Explorer straight away.
Currently I run Windows 7 off it, and it works fine for now.
Well my SSD is on 1.94TB total written.
If you don't store anything important on it then its not a big loss if it fails anyway.
I left the Windows install on my Seagate drive intact, so yes, it should be fine.
I'm curious how long it can last.
If it dies, not a great loss but it certainly served me well.
I did a benchmark of less than 15 seconds to spare the drive, had a maximum speed of 378MB/s
I'm looking for an average-decent monitor between 100-140 euros.
If nothing better comes up will probably get S24C300HS
Anyone know any good ones?
So Chrome disabled userscripts recently...
How do I fix this and where can I find the fp scripts like the GD sorting fixer or the one that lets you scroll through rating lists?

Try this out:

Also, you're about two years late.
My power supply makes a lot of noise. I think the bearings might be going on the fan in it. Would lubing the bearing help?
Should. I actually have a power supply where I have to do this every year. I usually use a bit of lithium grease and spin the fan with my finger to work it in. However, if possible, replacing the fan with a better quality one is also a good solution. If your PSU fan has removable power connector, it should be real easy.

That's odd, because they worked just fine until recently.
The Phenom II X4 isn't a great chip, but I wouldn't expect it to be too bad with that GPU. GTA5 might be problematic, though - GTA4 was horribly CPU-heavy, but that might just have been a bad port job. Most other games should work fine though.
If r_stats currently says 'waiting for GPU', it probably means you're currently bottlenecked on your GPU.
An SSD is definitely worth it, but won't really help with games (other than loading times - if you can fit games onto one, I usually install games to HDD because a big SSD is expensive).
PS: To help with the reinstall pain, Ninite lets you easily install a bunch of programs at once.
i noticed at least 90 extra FPS in GTA IV going from the phenom architecture to a 4670k. it makes a HUGE difference
[editline]24th June 2014[/editline]
also for Source games.

replace the fan. just take care in doing it, take the top off and touch nothing other than the fan cable while doing so, you might need to snip off the tacho cable on a regular 3 pin fan and twist/solder them on to the two pin connector the PSU uses

90 FPS increase in GTA IV? I didn't even know 90 FPS was possibly on that turd of an optimization job.
in updated EFLC it is

this is at 2560x1080 too lol. before i was worried about not being able to play GTA V at comparable settings to the next gen consoles but now i have no worries
Anyone know of a half decent foot pedal? Lookimg for one for push to talk
Anyone know of a half decent foot pedal? Lookimg for one for push to talk
You could probably make your own, I think all the branded ones are expensive as fuck.
Opinions on best AM3+ CPU and PCIe GPU combo for £150 (or less)? I quite like the AMD FX6300 and Nvidia GT740.
Is there any way to hide a partition in Explorer while keeping said partition intact?

I'm trying to hide the System Reserved partition on my mechanical drive to reduce clutter, but so far I didn't manage to get the job done.

You can remove the drive letter mapping with diskmgmt.msc.
Right-click the drive, change drive letter and paths, and then remove it from the list in the window that opens.
ok regular memory use is now around 1.9 gb up to 2.5 gb now. When i put my PC to sleep and wake it up memory use sticks around 1.5 gb. Is it something to do with services that only activate on startup?
I used to have this problem on my laptop (8600m GT) and I "think" it may be related to overheating as a restart usually fixed it. is the right side of your monitor partially normal? mine was distorted like your pics on about 3/4 of the screen while all the way to the right it was fine.
what are the temperatures of the GPU? I doubt it's failing since the laptop which has these issues is still alive after years of that problem
anyone know what might cause this by the way?
it started happening after installing my new SSD (840 EVO 250GB). this didn't happen on my old SSD or when the OS was installed on my HDD while I waited for the new SSD. I suspected samsung's rapid function as I heard it uses RAM, but even with it disabled this happens. not sure if the issue is only present with Titanfall as I haven't tried anything else yet. the RAM usage is at max around 5GB, so I'm not running out of RAM that's for sure
speccy if that'll help
[editline]22nd June 2014[/editline]
seems to be the case for all programs which take a decent amount of resources from the computer. a bird told me that increasing the pagefile size could fix it. mine is currently set at an initial of 200MB but max of 1GB
i read that it's caused by running full screen apps at non native resolutions, update your intel video drivers to the latest version
Does anyone here have Photoshop Elements 12, and has it ever failed to open any PSDs? I need photoshop for work and don't like CC and don't want to pay for it
[editline]24th June 2014[/editline]
nvm doing the elements trial
I posted this in technical support but posting it here as well wouldn't hurt.
Sometimes my screen will flicker up and down very fast, I thought it was my eyes but it wasn't as it happened again.

Could be a cable issue. Make sure all connections are tight. Cable might be flaky too.
Could be a cable issue. Make sure all connections are tight. Cable might be flaky too.
The cables are tightly in, and the cable should be fine, I can't use another cable to see since I don't have any.

Bitfenix Shinobi, Corsair 200R, 300R, 230T.
Why is windows recognizing more drives than my BIOS or Linux does?
I wanna install linux on a very specific drive but I can't pick it
One of your drives is probably split into multiple partitions. Open diskmgmt.msc and see which partition is your "specific" drive. Then point Linux that way.
Bitfenix Shinobi, Corsair 200R, 300R, 230T.
Thank you, I already had the Corsair 300R in mind so I will probably buy it.
Hey, does anybody know how the bundled SATA connectors in the Mac Pro case work? Is that a proprietary connector on the board-end, or is it a normal SATA and 12v bundle?

In the old-style aluminum desktop ones, they're standard SATA. The new trash-can ones don't even use SATA, it's all PCIe.
Anyone here use f.lux? I've got this annoying bug where whenever my computer wakes up, f.lux makes the screen flash between the default brightness and the adjusted brightness for a good minute or so before it calms down and goes with what it should be for that time of day. Some sources say this is a driver issue, but all my video drivers are up to date and it still happens - but only when my computer wakes up from sleep mode / hibernation, not when it boots.

Yeah, I was talking about the towers. I know that the ones in the drive sleds are SATA, but what does that connect to? Is it proprietary on the motherboard connector, or is it split?

It's standard SATA, at least on mine (2006 model). They're basically just running SATA extension cables from the mobo to the sled, joining it with power from the PSU.
