You can usually choose where you want to install the program just select a folder on the other partition and everything will work fine.

If the installer lets you choose the location you can install it where you want.
thx
Do laptops with in-built external drive bays exist?
I have one on my PC and I'd like to be able to swap the SSD between computers.
I don't think outsourcing common sense is something we should be encouraging.
I build and fix computers, I don't do circuit board repair and know next to nothing about the components. That's why I asked.
But now I know, and i ordered some caps and the problem is more or less solved

I know with some laptops you can do something along those lines with the optical bay, dunno on those speeds though. Your best bet might be a USB3 to SATA adapter

If the laptop has a modular optical drive, you can get a hard drive caddy and install it. If the laptop has a quick remove switch it is even plug n play capable.
What's the best general purpose laptop I can get around $1200 dollars?
Thanks

A Lenovo ultrabook with an i7 and roomy SSD would do well, unless you need a dedicated gpu
I recently bought a new Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 which runs up to 60c under load. I want to make sure that the cooling configuration in my case is right.
My case is a Cooler Master HAF 912 Plus, which has by default one 200mm fan on the front blowing in the case, and a 120mm exhaust fan on the back.
I have added a additional 200mm fan on the top, drawing out of the case as well, and another 120mm on the side blowing in the case, pointing at the GPU.
Is this setup correct or should I change direction of one or more fans?
I need your help.
I have a defective Zyxel GS-1100-24.
So i started a RMA case and they've already sent me a new product, before I've sent the defective Unit.
But here's the problem. They've sent me a GS-1100-24E unit, and claim that "it is an alternative product of higher-value' - but i disagree.
What is your take on this? Even sending the defective Unit to sweden is like Half the Price of this cheap GS-1100-24E
I had to reinstall Windows 7 because my computer kept crashing when downloading or managing any sort of big file, or large cluster of files. I think it's related to my ssd. I changed the IDE settings on my mobo from IDE to AHCI, and doing all the registry changes on Windows, so I don't know what went wrong. SMART says my ssd is fine. What's going on?

or without it, if you can deal with 128/256GB of internal SSD storage
Hey guys, I realize that this has probably been asked ten bazillion times already, but I want to know if it is worth getting Windows 8.1 over Windows 7.
I currently have an illegitimate copy of Windows 7 and I want to purchase a genuine, working copy of Windows to put on my computer so that I don't have to deal with Windows Loader or any similar workarounds/cracks. I have heard that Windows 8.1 is faster and more efficient than Windows 7, but opinions I've seen online are mixed.
Could someone help me decide whether to purchase Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 or at least point me in the direction where I can find the most unbiased, accurate information on which system would best suit my needs. I have a powerful gaming computer, so there is no issue on whether it can handle either OS, I just want to know which OS is better in terms of performance and compatibility with recent software.
Also, I've heard that Windows 8.1 allows you to remove or disable the stupid tablet Metro crap. Is that true?

In a sense. You can operate entirely out of the desktop in Windows 8, but you've still got to use the Start Screen. Once you get used to it, it's actually pretty impressive. I ended up liking it more than the Start Menu after a year or so. The only reason I left Windows 8 was because I wanted to turn my desktop into a Steambox. I did some digging, and found Windows 7 is more stable for booting into Steam BPM as the shell, so I went back to that. Additionally, due to changes in the DirectX libraries, some older games may not work as well on Windows 8.
Overall, though, it isn't a bad OS. It functions pretty similarly to Windows 7, but the Start Screen might take some getting used to.

You can actually set it so the computer boots onto the Desktop instead of the Windows 8 Start Screen.
Is 80C acceptable for a GPU when it's working at maximum capacity?
8 did a lot right. It's an excellent, quick OS, and with classic shell you don't even have to use the metro tiles. The only thing I see for 7 is compatibility with significantly older software.

8.1, alone, doesn't let you do much about the Metro crap. However, Classic Shell Start Menu, a free addon, lets you get rid of the start screen and active corners, going back to either the W7 start menu, the XP start menu, the '98 start menu, or any customized variant of them. I use something mostly identical to the W7 menu, stripping out a few options like "Devices and Printers", adding a menu to access start screen items, and showing more frequently-used programs than default.
With CSSM, W8 is a better OS than W7. It's faster, lighter, and has support for some neat new hardware features. But I would not use W8 without it.

Like KotOR.
I have a mini display port 1.2 computer and a 4k monitor.
Do I have to buy a 1.2 compliant displayport to mini displayport cable or will any cable with the right connectors work?
it doesn't seem to be of higher value since all the specs are lower

If it hits that in Furmark or while mining yes, if it hits that while gaming you may want to post what kind of card you have. Some cards handle heat much better than others.
nVidia 2xx and 4xx GPUs are hot as fuck (thus the memes) as well as the R9 280 and higher

I can't even find anywhere that shows the difference between the GS-1100-24 and the GS-1100-24E. But the reviews that I've found on the GS-1100-24 say it's a terrible piece of crap and to get something else.

I would imagine any cable as long as it has the connectors, will be fine.
My Acer LCD is kill, bulged cap and won't turn on, so I grabbed a 1080p samsung LCD we had that was sitting unused and it works MOSTLY fine except for some weirdness.
It's got coil whine, on white backgrounds there is one faint yellow vertical line about 5-8px wide, and on anything red there is static-like flashing blue dots and lines. What causes this?
It's not super noticeable, so it's hard to get a photo of the weirdness
I was once told that older wifi connections (802.11b/g) don't support WPA2 encryption, is this true? Is it more secure to tell my router to only use n? I don't have any b/g devices (except a PS3 I never use anymore) so it wouldn't matter if I did.

My GTX 670 hits 80C while gaming but I overclock it a bit. Nvidia seems to suggest that it's fine, it's kind of the limit of how hot I'm comfortable letting it get though.
is there anything that can change the windows 7 login screen
i just want a single bar to type my password into, with maybe a picture in the background
i dont know if its possible or not
help is appreciated
i don't think there's anything that was as capable as LogonStudio was back in the day, but programs do exist to change the background
