So my HDD, Samsung Spinpoint F3, I had for nearly three years is on the verge of dying (memorial service will be held soon) so I guess it's time for a new one. So, I have my mind cross between the WD Black or one of the Seagate Barracuda models (size won't matter as long I'm aiming for a $50-$80 price range). I just need to know how they compares, how well they performs, and their average life-span.
Motherboard doesn't have any PCI-e slots, is it worth buying a Radeon 3450 at around £40 just to run some older games, (current one is a nvidia nvs quadro 280 and isn't even recognised by windows 7).

Just build from scratch, don't try and prolong it.
I'm going to upgrade my dying HDD soon and was just wondering if its worth it to get W8 as well. I have used W8 before and its actually on my XPS 18 and ASUS T100 but I want to know if I should just get it for my desktop. Is there any benefit above W7 that would justify the $100?

Do you know if your motherboard uses UEFI?

Not in my opinion. If you have a working copy of 7, $100 isn't justified

You do know you don't have to use UEFI for Win8 right? Only reason I would use it to is get it to boot slightly faster.
hell i ran the consumer preview for Win8 on an old BIOS machine
I was only sure the boots were that fast on UEFI.
Looking to buy two ethernet cables for myself and my xbox playing brother who despite being one room away from the hub relies on the wireless adapter he bought about a decade ago
Did some reading and I guess i'm looking for Cat6 Shielded STP/FTP cables? Connection is 75 down/16 up and 20 ms
Would cablesense be a good shout? I'm aware of the whole diamond plated Turbodata™ bullshittery that goes on in the cable business, but regardless would they be worth the cost?
Also i'm in the same room as the hub and am already connected via ethernet but i'm using a stock cable - it says "Cat.5 UTP" on the side, I should probably upgrade to a Cat6 cable right?
Got my new laptop in today, the HP Pavilion 15-n203ed, and Speccy reports a pretty high CPU temp going from 90 degrees celcius and higher. The thing is that the other components have normal temps and other programs (Speedfan and Coretemp) both show no temperatures for the CPU.

First time dealing with a laptop, should I be worried or is it okay?
Most HP Pavilion laptops get really hot for some reason. Something about the way they did the thermal paste. I've heard that there's some sort of "penny heatsink" think you can do, but I'd look it up for your specific model.
HP is terrible at designing laptop cooling systems, and nobody really knows why.

Because they give very few shits about designing their laptops in general in aspect to internals. The vista/early 7 era DV series was plagued with chipset failures so badly that I am surprised there are any left out there.
Windows 8 keeps changing my power option to power saving instead of high performance randomly. Is there any way to fix it?

Just go with some regular Cat5e cables. It's good for 100 meters at gigabit speeds and cheap as hell. No need to get fancy.
So I managed to get my CPU(Athlon X2 5600+) to about 63°C when under load and it idles at around 30°C, however I noticed something odd, which is the CPU clock that jumps up to 6,6GHz at times.

I'm also not sure if 1,4V aren't a bit too much. The only thing I could think of causing this would be Cool 'n' Quiet, but that shouldn't overclock the CPU...

My Pavillion G7 finally gave out after 4 years of service. Interestingly, it was the ram that died first. I'm sure internal temps idling at around 60c were not healthy, but the CPU managed to stay strong even while enduring temps upwards of 85C. That's with a thermal paste and fan upgrade.
Hiya, just dropped my MX518 and its mouse wheel is bust now. (poor thing lasted 5-6 years, RIP)
I know it was discontinued but there's a new one that's basically the same, what's the name of it please?
(or a mouse that fills the same niche for the same price, but I sure loved my MX518, so renamed version is best)
Cheers

G400s
Is there any quality difference in sound, when using usb sound card adapters? I'm really in need of one since it seems that I broke my laptops audio jack :v:

What's the difference between the G500 and the G500s?
What's the difference between the G500 and the G500s?
A sensor with "more" dpi and different colors. If you have the g500, keep it.
I assume this is the right place to ask, but I'm looking for a good 2-4TB external hard drive that won't crap out on me. Any recommendations?

Are you looking for a mobile external or a powered external? And what's your budget?
Are you looking for a mobile external or a powered external? And what's your budget?
Should have mentioned, sorry. I'd prefer a mobile external, with a budget of maybe $200-$300, though I can probably go above that if need be, but I'd prefer not to.

Can be better or worse. Really cheap ones are basically just to get audio and can be a crapshoot with quality. I bought a 10 USD one and was fairly decent, albeit the left and right channels were backwards. More expensive ones may have better amplifiers and less background noise.
What's the difference between the G500 and the G500s?
G500 is something different, the sensor isn't as good as g400 which is just the new version of mx518.
The S part is because they started testing with grips and sweat stuff, it makes sure that it feels much nicer to hold because it has a better texture as well. So yes, it's just a newer version. They probably upgraded the sensor as well.
Would an ASUS T100 be worth getting if I can get a hell of a deal on it? And if so, what price would be worth it?

I mean do you have a use for it? Or if it's that cheap, buy it and sell it. I'd pay like $200 for it, but I hate tablets.

My use would be primarily browsing, along with a bit of general productivity and work. The fact that it's a full version of windows is the only reason I was considering it. I was probably thinking of offering $150 tops. My boss got it for free as a promotional gift from one of our distributors, and sold it a while ago but it looks like the sale isn't going through because they haven't picked it up

Plus it comes with office 2013 h/s. Although I haven't owned a copy of office since '07...
