Planning on buying a LG 29UM65 Ultrawide monitor. (2560x1080) Currently have two gtx 770's hooked up to my single 1920x1080 monitor via HDMI. Will I be able to connect my cards to this monitor via HDMI or will I need a special cable?
A friend was browsing through eBay and sent me this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/128GB-Max-Black-Swivel-USB-2-0-Flash-Drive-Memory-Stick-Pen-Same-Day-Shipping-/151270921777?pt=UK_Computing_FlashDrives_SM&hash=item2338731631 What the hell do they mean by upgraded units? Like... Wut?
You'll be good with HDMI, dual link dvi, or display port
I've read some complaints online that HDMI is capped at 1920x1080, I've also read that HDMI 1.4 does not have this limitation. Will I actually need a HDMI 1.4 cable or will any old cable do?

I used to use some bargain bin one from best buy with my 2560x1080 before switching to displayport master race
Honestly, at this point you're better off scrapping the whole thing. Everything you can upgrade is limited by something else you can't upgrade. You can't really upgrade the video card. The 540 Slim requires low-profile addon cards, and they just don't make any good video cards like that. The most powerful one I can find is the GeForce 740, which is so weak you can't even find good benchmarks to see how weak it is. You can't upgrade the CPU much - any modern one requires a new motherboard, and buying a higher-end one old enough to be compatible is a waste of money. A Core 2 Quad might work, but it also draws a lot more power and heat, which probably won't work. You might be able to toss a bit more RAM in there (DDR2 is expensive as hell these days though), and maybe an SSD. But the RAM won't buy you much, and the SSD won't improve performance, just responsiveness. Which might be enough if you're not looking to actually run intense stuff, and just want a faster office/student machine. Edit: Wait, is that the computer you currently have, or the computer you're thinking about buying? Because if it's the latter, holy shit, almost any other computer would be better than that. That desktop is about on par with a laptop I had back in high school. The laptop that replaced that laptop is now itself nearly due for replacement. That desktop is old as shit.
Yeah that is the one I currently have. I was looking to buy a new computer but all I've found is really shitty. My budget atm is 800dollars can go abit over
Just run a batch file to remove stuff in the temp folder or something like that?
Not reasonable - there's no way I can run the batch file on every shutdown.
Not reasonable - there's no way I can run the batch file on every shutdown.
It may not be what you want, but you could however do the opposite and have a batch file set to startUP and clear the previous sessions temp files and such.
in case anyone has an questions about what software to get for anti malware the answer is simple: Not MSE. Does Malwarebytes do real-time scanning? I'm using Avira right now, which is apparently a bad decision.
Does Malwarebytes do real-time scanning? I'm using Avira right now, which is apparently a bad decision.
The pro version does. The free version does not. https://www.malwarebytes.org/antimalware/
Ugh, having to pay for an AV is the reason I'm using Avira. Are there no good free products?
Alternatively, realize that antivirus is part of defense-in-depth. No single line of defense is impenetrable - the only thing on that test that aced it has no real-time scanning, so it can only clean up after an infection. Instead, build defense in depth. Five layers (user education, browser malware site lists/WoT, adblock plus plugin click-to-enable, real-time AV scanning and regular MalwareBytes sweeps), each with only 90% reliability, add up to 99.999% reliability. When you have defense in depth like that, a few percentage points on one layer don't matter much compared to adding yet another layer. Oh, and assuming a p=95% confidence and truly random sampling, there should be a +/-2% margin of error on that chart. Which is more than enough to make most of their ordering arbitrary, although that doesn't help MSE much.

I already have an HDMI cable laying around, would it be worth the effort to buy a Displayport cable? Why are displayport cables better, why did you switch? Sorry for all these questions, bit of an illiterate at this kind of thing.

I switched because I needed the HDMI output for a fourth screen that didn't have displayport
just out of curiosity: would a geforce gtx 560 ti run games well on 2560x1080?
Nah. I switched because I needed the HDMI output for a fourth screen that didn't have displayport
Thanks for all your help. Just saw that they include an HDMI cable with the monitor so that should be one that supports the resolution.
just out of curiosity: would a geforce gtx 560 ti run games well on 2560x1080?
In terms of the number of pixels, it's between 1920x1080 and 2560x1440, so I would get at least a GTX 780 before investing in a 21:9 monitor if you're looking for stable framerates.

They'll drop about $100 when the 800 series comes out. That's what I'm waiting for.

I would however recommend an r9 290 or 780, but it's not 100% necessary

I don't max everything out, but I'm running most things stably at medium-high. A 780 is a bit overkill for a 2560x1080 monitor - Anandtech recommends a 280X or 770 for that scenario, which I can't really argue with.
ok speaking of 21:9 monitors im still looking for a good one thats not too expensive and im currently looking at the aoc q2963pm, is that monitor any good or should i pass? [editline]30th July 2014[/editline] btw i still have a lot of time to pick cause im prolly getting one at my birthday
i would get the u2913wm or LG equivalent with the same panel. though the dell has better calibration and a better warranty/build quality and stand

It uses LG's panel that they've got in theirs.
is a 21:9 monitor worth buying? it sounds nice to have so much horizontal space, but I'm worried it won't really be compatible with pretty much all videos on youtube. vertical black bars doesn't sound very tempting.
go 2560x1440. 21:9 is a niche usage case aspect ratio [editline]30th July 2014[/editline] if you watch a lot of anamorphic content, or want something like two 5:4 seamless monitors, by all means go 21:9. but most people would benefit more from 1440p
Stupid question time: I have four RAM slots and 2x2GB in dual channel. I want to upgrade. Should I buy another 2x2GB or go for 2x4GB for the second channel? [editline]30th July 2014[/editline] Some people tell me it's better for performance to have them all the same kind, but I assumed that because it's in different channels it doesn't matter.

I just got my 21:9 for $250 from Phrozen
