is there a way to confirm if it's overheating? all I can tell is that it's slightly warmer than my hand which sounds okay to me doubt there's any thermal sensors in routers that I could read of off?
Most likely not, and if there are, its not going to be accessible to the end user. Only way you can really confirm is if you take it apart, put on a heatsink if there isn't one already, and have a fan blowing on it. If it lasts longer than it usually does, there's your problem.
That's the thing, if I go into bios and set it as boot priority, it automatically reverts whenever I plug in the second hdd.
Try updating your bios?
Is it safe to move things like documents, pictures, music, downloads, etc. to a drive that Windows was not installed on, and if so, where would be an appropriate place to put them?
Is it safe to move things like documents, pictures, music, downloads, etc. to a drive that Windows was not installed on, and if so, where would be an appropriate place to put them?
You can put them anywhere you want really, or if you'd prefer, you can move the directory that windows uses for documents and pictures etc so you can still get to them easily from windows explorer.
Does anyone have Verizon Fios or is familiar with it? Do you know whether you can buy any 11n router and have it work with it?
You can put them anywhere you want really, or if you'd prefer, you can move the directory that windows uses for documents and pictures etc so you can still get to them easily from windows explorer.
Is it something largely necessary to do if you're taking it off of an SSD so it doesn't use up as many read/write sequences that can wear the device down?
Is it something largely necessary to do if you're taking it off of an SSD so it doesn't use up as many read/write sequences that can wear the device down?
afaik any decent modern SSD isn't going suddenly to die one day because you have your music and documents on there, most are rated to last through millions of reads/writes. if you are still sort of concerned about it you could put your documents on another drive and just have windows and programs on the SSD I guess.
he will have upgraded way before the drive fails.
yeah so long as you don't do anything silly like defrag the ssd or have a program like dropbox which is always syncing files on there it should last ages
You can put them anywhere you want really, or if you'd prefer, you can move the directory that windows uses for documents and pictures etc so you can still get to them easily from windows explorer.
As a note, if you do this, make sure to do it the officially supported way, not just copy and paste. You have to open the properties of each file and tell it to redirect those folders to a new location.
Anyone know some good image hosting sites that aren't: Dropbox - randomly refuses to upload pics once a day, irritates me to no end. Imgur - converts to shit quality jpg Pomf - randomly deletes not even month-old pics TinyPic - no idea how to get direct links, also uploads pretty slowly to use with ShareX?
Getting your own webhosting with SFTP support.
does shareX support SFTP? I was trying to configure it to use my webserver, but I could only find FTP
does shareX support SFTP? I was trying to configure it to use my webserver, but I could only find FTP
yes i'm not in windows right now so i can't screenshot an exact location but there's a setting in the ftp setup that tells it to use sftp instead
Any programs that constantly monitor connection speed and keep a log? I'm switching to an ISP with unlimited data on the 6th, and am going to push as hard as I can. Want to monitor if/when/how much I get throttled. Already cleared out all but two of my VM's in preparation for all the downloads.
Does checking this option on itunes completely overwright the quality of my music on my pc or does it just downscale them for my phone, I want to keep the high quality files such as 320kbps mp3 and alac files on my pc for higher quality listening but have them lower on my phone so I can fit more on it. Can I feed audio into my computer so I can listen to both the source and my computer? for ex hook up a ps2 so it's like rca -> line-in -> computer -> my headphones

Assuming you have the adapter for RCA to 3.5mm already, just plug the 3.5mm into your line in jack. You may also need to use the "Listen to this device" feature in Windows, depending on your hardware (one system I had automatically played it over headphones, my current one doesn't)
Is there any way I can 'extend' my LAN cable without using a switch/hub since it's about 20 cms short of reaching my pc?
Is there any way I can 'extend' my LAN cable without using a switch/hub since it's about 20 cms short of reaching my pc?
sadly there's no way to magically extend cables yet, so you'll have to rely on either buying a longer ethernet cable, hack together two ethernet cables to make a longer one or by using a switch/hub
Can I feed audio into my computer so I can listen to both the source and my computer? for ex hook up a ps2 so it's like rca -> line-in -> computer -> my headphones
Yep. I used this to get TV audio through my PC headphones for a while, works pretty well. Just convert your analog to 3.5mm, plug it into a microphone jack, and select "Listen to this device" in the device options. It also works like an Analog to Digital converter, for whatever you'd need one of those for.
sadly there's no way to magically extend cables yet, so you'll have to rely on either buying a longer ethernet cable, hack together two ethernet cables to make a longer one or by using a switch/hub
While hacking cables together sounds very tempting, I'd rather not risk screwing up. Would something like http://www.dlink.com/us/en/home-solutions/connect_us/switches/go-sw-8e do since I honestly have no idea which brand and specifications are good.

Why bother with a switch? Actually, if it's only 20cm, why even bother? Just move your PC. Scoot the whole desk if you have to.
I think I'd rather try to find a longer ethernet cable before investing in switches as they tend to be more expensive
I can grab that one for quite a low price (10 euros), that's why I'm asking if it's ok. I do have an old hp hub, but some ports don't work and it's only 10 mbps. I already have about 2m of cable and I don't want to waste that much cable. Also when I think about it, a hub/switch would work quite well since I can also connect some other devices to it. So, I'm planning to do some PC upgrades soon, and I'm wondering if I'll need to rebuild the whole thing or just buy a few parts. My current build's as follows: All that's running on an Antec 520w PSU. I'm looking to throw in a better graphics card, maybe a GTX 770 or 780, depending on my finances. I'd also like to bump up the RAM, add another 8GB. I might do a hard drive and SSD combo later, but that shouldn't change power draw. If I do that, will I need to upgrade the PSU to handle all of it, or should I be fine on 520w? Additionally, will either of those cards be bottlenecked by the CPU? I've got it running at 4.0Ghz right now, if that matters.

[t]http://www.konsolshoppen.dk/image/cache/data/PC/R/RJ45%20Network%20Cable%20Extender-500x500.jpg[/t] He can just get one of these and a short cable lol
