That's not steam.
I am pretty sure it is not, but MSE cannot find anything either.
MSE is shit. Get Malware Bytes and to scan your comp.

It didn't find anything.
Right click it and open file location.

It was in Roaming/Steam somewhere. I've deleted it, will see what happens.

I don't have a Steam folder anywhere in my Roaming folder. Sounds like it was a virus of some kind after all.
Hmm so what's the best card out there now?
Does the Radeon R9 295X2 beat the new 980 GTX?

IIRC 295X2 only just beats two 980s in SLI.

Hmm, should I get the 295 instead then?
I haven't had any experience with radeon cards

Radeons are good for pure performance, and are a better deal. However feature wise they have less going for them, and as far as I know their drivers are a little less stable.
Am I the only one who highly dislikes font smoothing and DirectWrite? Font smoothing just looks awful, as if the text is blurred. Even worse with subpixel rendering, since then each letter has a colored edge. DirectWrite totally fucks up the kerning, atleast in Chrome for me.

I've seen quite a few people complaining about it, so I doubt you're the only one.

mbam isn't an antivirus. get another antivirus like avira or avast also.

You're right, it's an antimalware program, which is what 90% of infections are nowadays, especially things that pop up in appdata.

well, mbam is an antimalware-except-viruses program. avira is actually antimalware
It catches more junk than anything else I've used though. Is it a catch-all? Nothing is, but is an excellent tool.

Well then.
So, what do you guys do to maximize battery life and lower heat in a laptop with a GPU?
So, what do you guys do to maximize battery life and lower heat in a laptop with a GPU?
My laptop has a hybrid graphics system, so I just... don't use it.
So, what do you guys do to maximize battery life and lower heat in a laptop with a GPU?
No clue. My only laptop was a sandy bridge i7, Fermi, dual HDD beast of energy consuming doom.
So, what do you guys do to maximize battery life and lower heat in a laptop with a GPU?
Just don't play games that use the GPU. When its not on, it just uses the integrated graphics and is no different from any other laptop. Also having one of the ULV intel processors help if your primary concern is battery life. 4-5 hours is realistically possible in Power Saver mode (underclocks to 700 Mhz) on my Asus browsing the web.
My girlfriend wants to play the Sims 4 on her laptop but want to make sure it can run it. After looking at the minimum requirements the only thing I'm not sure about is the CPU requirements. Their site says a 2.0 GHz Dual Core required if using integrated graphics and her laptop a 1.5 GHz Quad Core.
Is that a big deal?

I imagine it will fine. Worst case she may have to take some settings down a notch.
I have a small problem, and it was my fault. When I went to open a new window in Firefox, I accidentally went into private mode. Firefox ended up crashing as I was reading a few sites, and with it went that private mode. Is there any way to recover the sites that I had open? I read something about looking into the page file, but I don't know how to.

I'm pretty sure the exact point of private mode is to prevent that, and i doubt you'll get anywhere especially if you've turned off the computer/kept doing other things

Didn't turn off the computer since then. And it's not like I meant to start a private mode. Didn't realize I was in one until it was too late.
The fan on my laptop GPU doesn't start turning when it is stopped from a reboot or hibernation unless I take compressed air and force it to turn. After it starts turning on its own, it whines kinds loudly. Are fans on mobile GPUs replaceable or does the entire card have to be replaced if it finally goes out? GTX670m
It depends on the laptop really. But in almost every laptop I've taken apart, the fan(s) is/are removable and the power cable attaches to the motherboard with a simple connector. Problem is, you will need to find the near exact replacement for it, as the screw holes and the shape are specific to that laptop model (that being said, some models probably share that same part so odds are, its not rare).

The page file idea may have worked...if Firefox was actually paging at the time. And you immediately shut down your PC. Problem is, I highly doubt you were using enough RAM to require Firefox to save memory to the page file. And if you continued using your PC, Windows would have overwritten anything of use anyway.
Sorry man, those sites are gone.
I've had some issues with windows complaining about there not being enough memory which I didn't have issues with before but has become very aggressive recently. just now while playing Titanfall my screen went black all of sudden but everything still ran as I heard noises. heard two errors pop up though. my monitor has a very loose connection so it's not uncommon for it lose connection sometimes, but it outright just went black. no signal loss and the backlight kept going. the black screen thing sounds more like a GPU issue, but it's a very new GPU (780ti bought this year) so I've been suspecting either the PSU or the memory as those are the only components I haven't replaced yet.
could there be an issue with my memory? windows complaining about lack of memory much more frequently than in the past, memory being used up much quicker, etc.

Do you have the page file disabled? Windows likes to bitch about lack of memory if the page file is disabled even if you have 50% free.
Screen going black sounds a bit like a GPU issue though. Worst thing that happens when your memory gets used up is that your PC completely crashes or moves really slow (because of the page file). GPU most likely defective, but make sure your GPU drivers are up to date just in case.
