Older PCs were shipped with 32 bit OS's since they came stock with <4 GB of RAM, have less RAM overhead, and for driver compatibility (you could use XP drivers). It was just standard practice until >4 GB of RAM became mainstream. Just find a 64 bit ISO of the Vista version that you use and install it reusing the key your laptop currently has. It really is that simple (you might need to call Microsoft if it doesn't activate). Note that you will need to do a completely fresh install since 32 bit and 64 bit are not compatible. However, if you only have like 3 GB of RAM, you aren't going to see much of a benefit so I wouldn't bother.
I only have 3gb RAM but my problem is more of programs that don't support 32bit such as UDK or Dota 2 Workshop tools [editline]30th September 2014[/editline] thanks too, that helps
Anyone got anything to say about the Alienware Alpha? I'm really interested in the top model of it and I know it'd be way cheaper to build a computer, I just like the idea of it's incredibly small form factor and will probably end up putting it in the living room when I move. Also will probably put steamOS on it when it's done. Maybe upgrade the RAM if need be too. Details are here: http://www.alienware.com/landings/alpha/ The one game I do kind of care about running well is The Witcher 3. Apart from that graphics and stuff don't really get me too hard these days.
I really don't see it's advantage over something like this.

I don't have the time to put a PC together at the moment and just couldn't be bothered sourcing parts from all over. I noticed that case isn't available in Australia so that's a problem. [editline]30th September 2014[/editline] I found something pretty similar on a local site though. Might look into that.
Looking to upgrade... Which part should cop it? I'm thinking maybe a gtx970. Cpu seems absolutely fine which amazes me though. (Overclocked to 4.5Ghz) Thoughts?
Yeah, the GPU is realy the only part you would need to upgrade, and the 970 would be a great choice.
Was looking for a thread/forum where I can ask about Microsoft Excel and ended up here after searching. So in Microsoft Excel, what would be a function that grabs the row # it's currently on, but also grab specific columns? For example: The function I have is =(A2 + B2)/2, =(A3 + B3)/2, etc., but then I don't want to have to go through copy-paste-change the formula every time I go into a new row (ala I'd have to make =(A6 + B6)/2, =(A7 + B7)/2), and instead do something like =(A[Row #] + B[Row #])/2. Tried to look this up for like the past hour and an half, and no luck. Even tried something like =($A$(row()) + $B$(row())/2, but as you could imagine, doesn't work. This is like my first time actually using Excel, so... :v: Note: That's just an example; the formula I'm working with on my actual spreadsheet is =ROUND(((C2/D2) * (E2/C2))*100, 0) (and then C3, D3, E3, and so forth), and I have 25 items, so far.

It should intelligently modify the formula, as long as you're following a very easy, simple, and repetitive pattern. Which you are.

I'm honestly amazed it's capable of doing that (and of course, it works); it actually makes things tons easier. Thanks for that!
Anybody know if this chip would be okay to use with a pair of 10w speakers? It's apparently a 20w/speaker chip, and the current amp uses 10w/speaker. I see people use a 20w/speaker amp with these speakers all the time, but I'm not sure if that's safe. Could I decrease the power to the amp by using a less-powerful power supply, maybe 24w instead of 40w? I'm trying to revive a set of Apple Pro speakers from the late 90s, and I'm not having a whole heck of a lot of luck with documentation and safe operating limits. I don't want to blow them, since they're $300 a set. EDIT: Soldered one wire from the front to the back of the amp board, and now the speakers work fine with everything I plug them into.
intel core 2 duo running at a sick 2.2ghz the only upgrades in my budget are some refurbished ones off of newegg is it worth it? anyone have negative experience with used processors from egg?

At this point, its going to be much more cost effective to just save up for a new mobo and CPU. You'll actually see a noticeable performance boost.
Can anyone here recommend a good Drawing Tablet for a beginner for less than £60? I'd like to start doing digital painting but I'm not sure what to go for. I hope this is the right place to ask.

is there an app for android that boosts wifi signal?

Using RCA plugs for television, do you need to plug the red one in? I've been checking out some old televisions and portable dvd players. The only input ports I see are the white and yellow ports, so I wonder how necessary the red input plug is. I'm trying to get a cheap television that has 480p resolution to dedicate for my PS2 and Wii.

I don't remember which ones are which, but one controls left channel audio and one controls right channel audio. Plugging only one of the two in means you would only get one audio channel, and therefore might sound a little strange unless your game(s) allow you to change your sound output to mono rather than stereo in the options.
what do you mean?
One for receiving, one for broadcasting
Using RCA plugs for television, do you need to plug the red one in? I've been checking out some old televisions and portable dvd players. Its not imperative to have it plugged in, but if a game doesn't allow you to specify mono, some audio may be missing because the right channel is missing. I'm sure many PS2 games allow you to specify mono but the Wii might be too new as mono settings stopped being a thing in last gen consoles. But you can buy a RCA Y-cable adapter that will combine both the left and right (white and red) channels so you don't have to worry about this. They are stupid cheap and easy to find too, maybe $2-3 and in pretty much any store with a electronics section. What do I do about a couple of windows updates that refuse to install? It appears to be installing them ok then once it's done it cries about how they failed to install. The on-line help that windows update suggests I read doesn't actually explain anything. If it's any help it's these two that don't work: "Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 and 4.5.1 on Windows 7, Vista, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2 x64 (KB2894854)" and "Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5, 4.5.1 and 4.5.2 on Windows 7, Vista, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2 x64 (KB2972216)".

I don't know quite what causes it, but some updates just don't install on any machine. I think it might have something to do with the order updates are installed in, but I'm not sure.

Now instead of getting an unknown error, I get an actual error code now but it still doesn't work. I also ran a load of windows fixits but they did nothing either haha. I guess I'll just have to ignore it until it decides to work one day :v:

That's not due to conflicts with software, or drivers, or hardware. It's just a thing that happens.

[editline]2nd October 2014[/editline] Make sure you buy an actual high quality PSU though. Don't skimp on that shit.
Would my Modular Cooler Master G650M be good ? Since i don't want to mess with the PSU to much
Would my Modular Cooler Master G650M be good ? Since i don't want to mess with the PSU to much
If you already own it, its supposedly not a bad one. At least, its not a ticking time bomb, which is the most important. :v:
