Well my motherboard right now is a ConRoe1333-DVI/H (Old ass piece of shit I don't know shit about) which is why I want a case that will ideally fit this motherboard for now, until I upgrade later on. I need a case now due to hard drive issues. Basically to have all my drives inside this case causes a lot of loud noise due to the fact I can't actually screw the drives in properly. Aesthetics don't really matter, and I'd like to make my maximum budget around £70 since I'd like to buy it soon.
How many drives are you using? Are you getting more in the future? This is an important consideration since it can greatly shape choices. You'll need to confirm if the chosen case will able to support all of your drives.
Corsair generally make good cases, you could check out the 200R/300R.

On the highest end of your budget I recommend the Nanoxia DS4. It's a lowish height mATX case that specializes in quiet computing. It has 6 internal 3.5" bays + 1 internal 2.5" bay and costs £70 (base price + shipping).

I'm looking at getting a new pair of monitors, my current ones are pretty shitty and I'd love to finally get on the 1080p train. Has anyone got any recommendations for some relatively cheap HD monitors?

What is your budget for each one? What inch display do you need? An IPS monitor is something you should strongly consider getting.

Right now I'm using 3 3.5" drives and one tiny notebook SSD because it was bought for me and hey, free SSD. I do want more in the future, I think the most I'll have in one PC is 5 3.5" drives.

I'm not too fussed about size, as long as it isn't tiny. I'd prefer not to spend too much over £100 each but that might not be realistic.
I need a cheap case, on a UK site. Any suggestions or recommendations?
here's a dirt cheap one, though I really wouldn't cheap out on the case myself since you can just reuse it later, and a really good case allows for good airflow. But that should be fine.
Yes! I have the blackout version of it. It's not that huge and it's a bit short. Do you have measuring tape? The dimensions are in the product details. If not, I'll send a picture tomorrow.
I seem to have misplaced my measuring tape this morning (and then I had to go to work for nine hours, so I didn't get the chance to respond until just now). I'm estimating the space I wanted to put it in is around three or four feet wide, so if that's not big enough, I'll have to find another spot for it in my room.

So yeah, some pictures would really help, boyo. Thanks in advance.
So, my power supply is only 430w. With my hardware (shown on the last page with a screenshot) would that cause issues with my system? I had two extra case fans installed as well, I'm not sure how much power they would consume. I feel like I need a higher wattage PSU.

Nah, should be fine unless you're up to obscene overclocks on the CPU and GPU.

You could probably get this for around £120. It's IPS and 24".

For £110 though you can also get something like this. It's TN and 24".

Catalyst Control Center: Host Application has stopped working.
This happened right in the beginning of launching Windows (7), and the Catalyst Control Center has been slow to launch itself previously too, but never did it crash before.. not until I downloaded new drivers yesterday.
So, wtf could that be?

Probably the new drivers. AMD has a pretty bad reputation when it comes to driver releases. Mobility 14.4 makes my Catalyst Control Center crash every time I try to change any settings, and since they stopped releasing updates for Windows 8, I'm stuck using Beta 13.11 until I find the time to back up my data and install Windows 8.1.

See if uninstalling the new drivers and reinstalling your previous version fixes the problem.

Hmm, I'm not even entirely sure what IS the problem.
After sending the information about the crash to Microsoft (or, you know, the thing it does) the Catalyst Control Center did manage to launch itself. And everything is working fine really, the start-up seems to struggle that's all.
I'm also using SpeedFan software the up the GPU fan. I like to keep it at 50% at idle, around 65% in-game, but at start-up it's always at 24%, it resets.. Since the new drivers anyway.
any idea what could cause graphical artifacts? been having issues with red artifacts since yesterday. my card has been around 25-30c when the artifacts pop up. haven't tried putting any load on it yet. they only seem to pop up on certain colors as I can't see any right now, but some pictures have these red dotted artifacts erratically moving around in a very specific spot. they can be bent, straight, etc, while constantly blinking. it all depends on what I'm looking at.

Try taking out your graphics card and wipe the connector with alcohol, then put it back in.
also how old is your card? it might simply be dying on you.

it's a 780Ti, roughly 6-7 months old so I don't think it's dying
Honestly I'm not 100%. Usually whatever program you use needs to be capable of outputting those formats (pcm is a ggiven though, since its basic). Then you will have to look through thise settings to find how. There might be something in your sound settings. Its not universal, its going to depend on your setup.
So if a 5.1 headset uses 5.1 Dolby Digital for it's surround sound can it use other types via optical?

it was only a loose cable, phew
Would anybody jump out and stop me if I tried to buy this router? And if so, can you redirect me to another purchase?
Are you willing to spend more money?
I'll consider it, but below $60 is right up my alley. How much more are we talking and what options do I have?
So I have a windows 7 machine that I want to upgrade to windows 8 because I have a spare product key lying around. Is it acceptable to use microsoft's upgrade utility thing, or should I wipe the drive and do a fresh install?

Honestly, my last Windows 8 installation was a straight upgrade from my last Windows 7 installation, and I never had any issues with it. Unless you just want a fresh install, there's really no reason to bother with one.

a few cipwttkts have this and they can vouch for this thing
I'm mainly going to be using this for my phone and my 3DS. The only reason I'd go for that router is if there's an issue of quality or longevity with the cheaper one.
Yeah, the D-Link should be fine. I also really like the ASUS RT-N16. It's got almost the same feature set of the one Kiwi linked, but it's usually cheaper because it's not dual-band. Which is useless for most people.
Thanks though, I'll know where to look if the D-link shits out.
Something in my computer is failing, and it's either my CPU or Hard Drive, and I think it's my hard drive.
Recently my games have been getting consistent lockups/freezes that last about five seconds. At first it was only a couple times a day, so I didn't even notice it, but now it's gotten common to the point where it happens exactly every four minutes.
I think it's an HDD issue because every time the lockup happens, I hear a distinctive clicking sound from inside the case, and I don't think Processors tend to make those distinct kinds of noises.
Is there anything that I can really do aside from replacing it if that's the case?
[editline]19th October 2014[/editline]
actually I do remember a Windows error that said backup your data because we detect warning signs of these drives failing. It worked fine at the time and I'd had just gone through a lot of incorrect Windows error problems so I shrugged it off and forgot about it.
I still had a much older, much more used HDD that wasn't listed in the failing list (how is this possible?), I'm not worried about losing any files if these fail, but
tl;dr:how does the operating system work if it's on a drive that fails, is it simple to transfer it to another drive? How does this whole process work?
Hey, I'm not really clued up when it comes to pc wireless cards. Need to get one because the new house lacks any real ethernet solution, I'm having to tether my phone till I get one :v:
I'm after something preferably pci-e, reasonable price. Any suggestions?
[editline]19th October 2014[/editline]
If it makes any difference, we're using this.
How much do you refer to as a reasonable price? Here's this PCIe card I can recommend if it's within your budget:
Wireless Network Adapter: Intel 7260HMWDTX1 802.11a/b/g/n/ac PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter (£35.82 @ Scan.co.uk)
I'll happily pay somewhere around 70 quid as long as its worth the cash, although that looks pretty much ideal. I'm liking the wired antennae, could stick that outside my room.

All signs pretty much add up to a failing hard disk drive. You will need to replace it since it could die any minute now. You could go ahead and post its SMART data if it helps. I still advise on backing up your data unless it really is worthless to you. Some drives can fail in a short time span while others can last longer. You can never fully determine when one will fail.
If you're going to continue using your current motherboard then you can clone your current drive to a new one via ddrescue (make sure you back up vital data before doing so), or you can do a completely fresh install of the operating system on the new drive.
If you're prepared to replace it then I recommend a Western Digital Blue for a mechanical system drive. If you have a higher budget then you could get a Samsung 840 EVO with a decent bulk storage drive. Avoid Western Digital Green and Seagate drives.
