how do I make Firefox automatically log into Facepunch? I've looked everywhere in the preferences, but all I can find is the thing that makes it remember my password.
how do i transfer about a quarter terabyte of data from a pc to an old powerpc mac
Put the mac into firewire target disk mode and use some software on a PC with a firewire card. That'll get you about 400 Mbps. If the Mac is new enough to have gigabit ethernet, use file shares and a network cable.

If the answer to either if those questions is "no", you probably don't need nearly that much processing power for whatever it is you're going to do with that rig.

I'm having some trouble with my laptop keyboard. (Toshiba Satellite L50 B14M) My 3, E, D and C keys are not working correctly. Sometimes they work, sometimes I have to press them multiple times to make it work. I booted it up in Safe Mode and it still has the same problem, so I'm assuming it is a hardware problem. Is there any easy fix for this that I could do myself without voiding warranty or should I contact Toshiba?
I just want to max everything
Define "everything". Are you playing games? Making 3D renders? Editing lots of videos?
lol you dont need a 5820k for video games [editline]31st October 2014[/editline] seeing as they're 6 core processors they'll possibly have slower individual core speed. worse for gaming in fact more expensive is by no means equal to better. you'll be wasting your money if you're just buying it to play games
lol you dont need a 5820k for video games [editline]31st October 2014[/editline] seeing as they're 6 core processors they'll have slower individual core speed. worse for gaming in fact
Yeah, that's exactly what I've been trying to get at here.
id rather go down a notch and get a good 4k IPS monitor. 2x 980s for 1080p is laughable at best Dell UP3214Q, or you could wait for their 5k monitor
Let him spend his money on what he wants.
Money is not an issue. But is the 6 core CPU bad for gaming?
No, it will play games fine.
Let him spend his money on what he wants.
i have every right to tell people that i think they're wasting their money [editline]31st October 2014[/editline]
Money is not an issue. But is the 6 core CPU bad for gaming?
it's not bad for gaming. it's just no better than a £200 cheaper quad core processor with the same if not higher clock speeds [editline]31st October 2014[/editline] if you don't believe me, then look at other spec lists for 'top tier' gaming PCs. they all have quad core i7s because the people putting those kinds of things together know that 6 cores is pointless unless you are doing digital rendering
You know, you can buy a lot with £200. Like a good monitor, or a racing wheel, or another 970... Don't waste it on a workstation processor.
Money is not an issue. But is the 6 core CPU bad for gaming?
Just because you're capable of dropping an assload of money on this build doesn't mean that you should. This is where the law of diminishing returns shines the most. Your CPU isn't necessarily bad for gaming, but you'll get the exact same performance out of it that you would see with an i5-4690K. Haswell-E chips are a wasteful investment unless you, as I described earlier, are making a workstation PC or you only care about breaking benchmarking and overclocking world records. When you're looking to build a PC, you should get something that will net you the best bang for your buck (best performance without spending more money than what is necessary for your needs). You'll probably have to convert the prices to your country's currency and find these parts on other sites, but this barebones build here will still be capable of 4K gaming (if that's what you're looking to do, otherwise get a 650W PSU and a single 980 for 1440p or a single 970 for 1080p) without draining your funds and therefore leaving you with plenty of money to spend on games, bills, insurance, college tuition, a car, etc. instead: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($229.97 @ SuperBiiz) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($28.98 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: MSI Z97-G55 SLI ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($117.98 @ SuperBiiz) Memory: Patriot Viper 3 Low Profile Blue 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($67.99 @ Newegg) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 4GB Superclocked ACX 2.0 Video Card (2-Way SLI) ($569.99 @ Amazon) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 4GB Superclocked ACX 2.0 Video Card (2-Way SLI) ($569.99 @ Amazon) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($77.98 @ Newegg) Total: $1662.88 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-10-31 12:30 EDT-0400
i would swap the 212 with an NH-d15. and add some noctua fans in there i think 2011 DDR4 is however a good idea now if you can afford it, for upgradability reasons and a better PSU than that EVGA thing.

Did they release a BIOS update or something recently?
x99.
x99.
But that would warrant buying a Haswell-E processor then, wouldn't it? I don't think X99 is backwards-compatible with Haswell/Haswell Refresh.
Now you want him to get a 2011 cpu after you just told me it's a waste of money?!?
i didn't say 2011 is a waste. i said a six core workstation CPU is pointless but now i've just realised that there's only one quad core 2011 CPU. regardless of my mistake, whether or not you think DDR4 and the cost that comes along with 2011 and a haswell e processor is up to you (for gaming i don't think it is at all). a devil's canyon 4790k would suit the task perfectly CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($339.99 @ Newegg) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 82.5 CFM CPU Cooler ($99.99 @ Newegg) Motherboard: Asus Z97-DELUXE ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($274.99 @ Newegg) Memory: Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2666 Memory ($314.99 @ Newegg) [could opt for up to DDR3-3300, but requires some tuning] Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 980 4GB Video Card (2-Way SLI) Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 980 4GB Video Card (2-Way SLI) Power Supply: XFX ProSeries 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($129.49 @ Newegg)
I'm interested in learning more about programming and programming languages. Should I just find a language and dive in or is there a better way to learn about it?
I'm interested in learning more about programming and programming languages. Should I just find a language and dive in or is there a better way to learn about it?
There's not really a "good" way to learn one. I've heard that the best way is to start working from interpreted languages and work your way down. And some say to start hard with C (since C forces you to learn how low level functions in programs work) and then move on to higher languages. IMO you just have to pick one and just roll with it. Python is a good choice if you have never programmed before and want to learn the ropes. Its also much easier than C or Java (for example) to make useful programs without a lot of experience. The good news is that a lot of language concepts translate easily, so once you know one, its easier to pick up another since you just need to learn the syntax.
You fucks sound like you've never heard of an enthusiast. If he wants an x99 system, he's gunna get one. I'm going to, and I don't even play any games that require an ounce of the power anymore. I just want to because it's fun as fuck to make a high powered build and mess around with tweaking every last detail.
you're speaking to an enthusiast builder. Haswell E might have enthusiast in the name, but that doesn't mean you need one to be an enthusiast [editline]31st October 2014[/editline] and if he cared about enthusiast parts so much i'm sure he wouldn't be asking for approval on the purchase here
You fucks sound like you've never heard of an enthusiast. If he wants an x99 system, he's gunna get one.
we had someone who said the exact same thing as you just did the customer decides not you or anyone else, you're giving out opinions on what you think is best no need to call someone an ass with too much money with no sense I'll repeat what levelog just said. "If he wants an x99 system he's gonna get one" Customer get what he wants always.
If the working world has taught me one thing, it's that the customer is always wrong. :v: Jokes aside, just because he has the money doesn't mean he should spend it all if he's not going to actually require that much power. He should spend only what he absolutely needs and then put the rest away to save up for more important stuff like bill payments or college/university funds. Overkill hardware goes hand-in-hand with wasting your money. Just because you want to break the bank doesn't mean you're making a good choice if you don't need to break the bank. That's just my two cents.
