we had someone who said the exact same thing as you just did the customer decides not you or anyone else, you're giving out opinions on what you think is best no need to call someone an ass with too much money with no sense I'll repeat what levelog just said. "If he wants an x99 system he's gonna get one" Customer get what he wants always.
I actually just said that because you called us all fucks. Yes, the customer does decide, but you don't have to be a dick about it, do you? Unless you just like being a dick... In which case, you don't make friends with dicks. Or salad.
And you sound like a bit of an ass with too much money and not enough sense, but you didn't hear me saying that out loud before now.
Are people not allowed to have hobbies? You don't need to restore that old car by any means, but you're going to because you really enjoy it and feel really good once it's done. [editline]31st October 2014[/editline] Maybe I was a bit harsh with the "fucks", but it was a rough day at work and I had just gotten home. [editline]31st October 2014[/editline]
you're speaking to an enthusiast builder. Haswell E might have enthusiast in the name, but that doesn't mean you need one to be an enthusiast [editline]31st October 2014[/editline] and if he cared about enthusiast parts so much i'm sure he wouldn't be asking for approval on the purchase here
While I agree with that, you have to admit even as just an enthusiast an x99 system can lead to a lot of fun and a nice challenge in ways.
I have a really stupid question. Why is it that if I render a video at 1080P/24 it takes about 3 seconds to render 1 second and maxes my CPU (i7 3770) to 100% on all cores. Yet rendering 1080P/60 it renders in real time if not faster. Is it because of it figuring out which frames to cut? Or is this some CUDA bs?

But it depends on the encoder and honestly, there might be something else at hand I don't know about.
So I went to turn my PC on today, and it didn't boot when I pressed the power button. I took it apart and tested the PSU using the paper clip method, the fan spins up and the little LED comes on. When it's plugged into the computer, though, I can't get the PSU to turn on either through the front panel power switch or the little internal power button. This is looking like the motherboard's dead, but I can't figure out why it would do that when the power supply's fine, I'm not drawing or using excessive current, and I haven't had any of the issues normally associated with a faulty motherboard. If anyone's got any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. Right now I'm just pricing out parts for a rebuild. It looks like I'll be using my laptop for a while.
got a cpu you can swap out?
Nope. I only own the one desktop, and this laptop I'm on now. The CPU shouldn't be preventing the power supply from turning on though, should it? I always thought that was handled by the motherboard itself, since the CPU doesn't receive power until the PSU turns on.
ive seen cpu's prevent power ups
I'm not really sure how I'd test that. What I'm thinking right now is shorting the power pins while it's plugged into the header, and seeing if it boots to UEFI. I think that could narrow my issue down to the motherboard or cpu. EDIT: Hey, what do you know. That worked. And then I took it out, and it kept working. I wonder if the pins were a little bit loose? Anyway, the thing boots fine now, so we're good I guess. Which is good, it means I don't have to drop a couple grand I don't have right now.
I need to find out the specs of my laptop display. Is there a way to do this without breaking it apart to look at the screen itself? The actual case is some dell thing that i cant figure out how to remove. Im a bit scared to do that anywho. Dell are being turbofaggots and tried to charge me fucking $700 to replace the screen, which is made worse by the fact ive got some special snowflake model i bought from overseas. I want to try and use a generic screen if i can.
What's the laptop model and screen size/resolution?
I want to make my computer do game stuff better but I do not understand computer stuff. Speccy I thought it was a good deal when I bought it but I'm just an idoit.
What's the laptop model and screen size/resolution?
The screen specs are "15.6 inch WXGA (1366x768) LED", the model is the Dell inspiron 3537-W560705TH. I'm pretty sure it's only sold in Asia. It was cheap as fuck at least.

I swear this is the first time i've seen someone post speccy using fahrenheit 90-100 celcius usually means your parts are going to die
whats a good free defragging tool
Coil whine in high-end cards? I hear people getting coil whine on high-end cards, namely the 970 cards. I wondering if it's something to worry about. I'm considering getting a Gigabyte Windforce card (not the G1) and I hear it has a lot of coil whine.
if it has coil whine you can RMA it [editline]2nd November 2014[/editline] my EVGA card (most known for coil whine in their 970s) doesn't have any
my MSI 970 4GB has surprisingly loud coil whine, but you can't hear it if the case is closed so I don't really care
Is it safe to keep using a hard drive which most likely had a head crash while turned off? I got this computer by a kid who brought it here by strapping it to the back of his bicycle. Currently it works just fine, but every now and then when it's idle, the moving head starts freaking out for a minute or two. Right now I'm using said drive in the same computer to hold a Windows Server installation. Speaking of Windows Server, I'm trying to set up local file sharing, but when connecting, and even entering the right credentials, I just get a access denied prompt? I've given said account full permissions, and even tried to logon with Administrator, it just refuses access.

Not that it's absolutely unusable, it just starts randomly slamming its moving head around. More or less wondering if a scratch that is most likely on the platter is essentially bad. It boots the OS fine though, and I haven't noticed any unusual behavior except for the moving head randomly freaking out.

Make sure that you're trying to use credentials stored on the server, not on your desktop. Check both the share and NTFS permissions to see if they allow the user account.

I've given this user full permission on both the drive itself, and the share permissions. [T]http://upl.kittehcat.org/2014-11-02_21-51-28.png[/T]
-snip- My SSD still works! I'm gonna put it in my Thinkpad T420 when I get it.
Does anyone here know how to change the Windows 7 boot sound? I can't seem to find anyway to change the sound during the boot animation. I've seen videos of people who appear to have done it and I can't work out how.

ok so i was fiddling with speedtest today and noticed my desktop got on 1/5th the speed my laptop was getting. (both wireless) so i want to upgrade my wireless from USB to PCIE. What would be the best solution? can answer any questions needed.
my apartment complex won't let Comcast drill another coaxial into my bedroom. only access point is in my living room which is at least 20ft away down the hall, so I have no option but wireless. fuckin lame [editline]2nd November 2014[/editline] also, I have a aftermarket Router, and modem. not using Comcast's shitty one.

Why is "Why are you even using wireless" even a question? There are many perfectly legitimate reasons why you could be using a wireless connection. My house was built on a slab, and I don't feel like running Ethernet through the attic and punching a hole in the wall, or draping a cable through my house. Since the modem's in the home office and my desktop isn't, I use wifi as my primary internet connection for gaming and otherwise. It usually works pretty well, I average about 60Mb/s on the 5Ghz band, which is what I'm paying for. Unless you live in a house built pre-1970 and have chicken wire in your walls, or are on the complete opposite side of your house from the modem and router, there aren't a lot of reasons not to use a wireless network assuming you have a decent router and wireless card. I really do hate the ethernet snobbery. Yes, it's faster and more consistent, but wireless isn't necessarily bad on either front these days. And you can't always run a wire.
