It's a question because some folks maybe able to cable some Ethernet through. It seems pretty rude to post and rant that.
I asked around a bit and most folks recommend this. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833320089
Oh... Well then, sorry about that. I thought you were dismissing wireless entirely. I see that happen from time to time. My fault, I guess.
Hey, you wouldn't know anything about power supplies, would you?
There's these cool things called powerline adapter. They can route a Ethernet from any point of the house to another for just the cost of an adapter. You plug one into the powerpoint next to your router, and the other wherever the fuck you want in your house. I dunno how it works, but the basic idea is that it turns your internal power wiring into a kinda ethernet cord. It's actually really stable and quite fast, and i used it for over 3 years on shitty 1970's house wiring without any problems. Speeds go up to 500Mbs too. Best part is it's less than $100. So yeah, might be easier to get that instead of blowing money on an expensive router (unless you need wireless).

i dropped my recommendation of corsair after some research and other people suggesting that they turned to shit, unless it's the AX series.
Well, I was looking more toward the Mini-Box PicoPSU line. I was wondering if I could use two PicoPSUs to power the graphics card and the processor/motherboard separately, since they don't sell one with a 6-pin, 4-pin, and 20/4-pin cable. It does have Molex, which I can turn into a 4-pin, but I'm still short a 4-pin.
I know the PCI aux power ports on most graphics cards use the same 12v line as the CPU aux power port, so in theory this should work. It's the biggest issue I've had so far with my Cube build, I just don't want to give up a dedicated graphics card.
You need to edit imageres.dll in System32.

That changes the sound post-boot animation, I want to either change or add a sound to the boot animation.

this is my router btw

so USB doesn't really lack over PCIE?

i was just a dumbshit and didn't get a good B point connector..
That changes the sound post-boot animation, I want to either change or add a sound to the boot animation.
I don't think there is a sound during the boot animation (not in the unmodified Windows install anyway). My sound driver isn't even initialized (there's a small pop) until about a second before the boot logo disappears.

That's what's confusing me. I don't know if the guy has a modified version of windows or if he just played the sound during the video.
And here we go again, I managed to fix the permissions, and for a little problem with the FTP that didn't update my settings I rebooted the server. (I set the FTP directory in the file share directory, so I can access my schoolwork through local access and by FTP both)
Now when trying to make local connection again, I get access denied all over again.

Any reason why it should be denying access? Completely flying blind over this.

Yet again this also occurs when logging on as administrator.
well shit, I think i'll go PCIe because I have this tp link USB that I can drag around when needed, and pcie one will be staying in my main rig
the one i linked earlier will be ok?
[editline]3rd November 2014[/editline]
or should I get an ASUS since my router is an ASUS?
I prefer PCIe models. The antennae are usually far superior. I really liked my ASUS PCE-N15. I think I've still got it around here, less than a year old. I'll sell it to you for $20+shipping.

looking to grab one that gets 5ghz signal
Hm, new idea. Anybody know anything about Intel NUC/Gigabyte BRIX computers? I think I can avoid having to damage the Cube if I use one of those as my core, but I'm concerned about what sort of hits I would take to overall performance.
Also, anybody know where I can get an MXM riser cable? Something like this, but a cable:

Amazon? I got PCIe and PCI risers from there, they may have MXM's.
Amazon? I got PCIe and PCI risers from there, they may have MXM's.
I've been Googling this for two days, haven't found anything. I'm wondering what the exact dimensions of that card are, or even what it is. It's not a standard MXM connector, they're normally more or less a horizontal PCI-E x16 slot.
I'm wondering if I could just get a 30 pin to 30 pin ribbon cable and shove it in the slot. My biggest concern is that that connector's proprietary, I really need to separate the boards for ventilation reasons.
I might just end up going with the Intel Iris 5200 model. It's cheaper, and I can always use Steam streaming or something.
A core i3/i5 should handle steam streaming just fine.
The shitty 2GHz Core 2 Duo in my HTPC handles steam streaming flawlessly. I'll bet he could get away with a modern Celeron without problems.
The shitty 2GHz Core 2 Duo in my HTPC handles steam streaming flawlessly. I'll bet he could get away with a modern Celeron without problems.
Yeah, Celerons are great for steam streaming, atoms are what really suffer. Some of the brand new or high end atoms can handle it alright, but most just can't do it well.
Great, so that's one concern taken care of. I assume since it'll do Steam streaming it should also handle something like Plex or XBMC, and standard web/office stuff should be fine too. I'm wondering if I couldn't turn this into my general purpose computer, and just keep my desktop kicking around for games and such. Maybe turn it into a dedicated VR machine.
My biggest concern now is storage. Is there any way I could hook a standard SATA 2.5" drive to the mSATA port, maybe through some sort of converter? If I could do that, I could have a 2TB hard drive on that and use the dedicated SATA for the toaster drive. I'm thinking a slot-load blu-ray drive would work well.
something like this?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/50mm-Mini-PCI-E-mSATA-SSD-Adapter-Converter-Card-slot-to-2-5-3-5-SATA-Smallest-/271604376858?pt=US_Drive_Cables_dapters&hash=item3f3ce1e51a
Sort of like that, but in reverse.
I want to, through a converter, plug a 2.5" drive into the mSATA port. That adapter lets you plug an mSATA drive into a SATA port.
I've seen them in most of the NUC Cube builds, I just don't know where to buy them. They're never listed in the writeups.
I'm looking for something like this, but with SATA/Molex power, because the mSATA standard packs enough juice to power a 2.5" drive.
EDIT: I guess the other option is just to buy a decently-sized SSD for it. I can get a Crucial 512GB mSATA SSD for $250, so maybe that's the way to go here. I'd just feel bad about the build spiraling to $1000 when it's primarily going to be a NAS/media center and gaming console, especially when I've got to plan upgrades for my aging desktop too.

They also make NUCs with full 2.5" bays.
Usb doesn't really matter in terms of performance. USB 2 = 480mbps on the usb buss. USB 3 = 4.8 gbps
It's just do you want to lose a usb port or use a pci-e. Usb cause then its bloody portable
USB wifi dongles usually have stability problems. I have some friends who had use them, and they all started to slowly deteriorate. Sometimes even had issues to begin with. They're small and compact, which can also add to a heat factor.
They also make NUCs with full 2.5" bays.
Yeah, but I haven't been able to find one with more than one 2.5" connection. I need at least one for the toaster drive, and one for a hard drive. Unless I use a USB3-SATA converter for the blu-ray, if that's possible.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hot-Sale-Cable-Black-USB-3-0-to-SATA-HDD-Adapter-Converter-Cable-Y5RG-/151373570623?pt=FR_C%C3%A2bles_adaptateurs_audio&hash=item233e91623f
That's the toaster handled, then! So I can toss in a 2TB hard drive, and a 250GB SSD, and that should give me all the storage I need.
I'd use the Apple superdrive, but it doesn't do blu-ray, and Apple programmed it to only work with the Macs that don't have one.
It possibly may work. Search it up. It maybe detected as a standard DVD drive like every other drive does.
I did, you've got to replace the IDE bridge because it's got a firmware lockout that, as far as I know, you can't fix in software.
And it still won't do Blu-Ray.
Should I get a second monitor? I have a 21" 1920x1080 that works fine and I love, but I was thinking of getting a smaller monitor vertically (portrait oriented) to put Winamp, Steam, code, or whatever I feel like having off to the side.
I've seen pictures of people doing this, is it worth it? And what resolution/ratio should I get it at? I don't think they're just 1920x1080 ones.

personally i'd use anoher of the exact same model just so the color and brightness is very close if not exactly the same, and to get the same dpi so stuff looks right
Anyone else heard anything about 8GB version of the 980 GTX?

Yeah, apparently early December. Possibly Christmas gift heheh
Anyone else heard anything about 8GB version of the 980 GTX?
I've always been pretty skeptical of the double VRAM versions of Nvidia cards. Pretty sure the 700 series didn't have enough bandwidth or bus width to support more than their default amounts of memory, therefore making the double VRAM versions a wasteful purchase due to bottlenecking. If this is true, hopefully they solve the problem that the last generation had to deal with.
I do wonder if this will make 4K gaming on a single graphics card more feasible though.
So I should get that instead of SLI 980 4gb?
