Quick Question. Friend's dad's laptop got some sort of malware, disallowing all network traffic etc. Can't figure out what it has but I've cleaned it enough so that all its doing is disallowing network traffic. But I've given up on cleaning it and I'm just gonna bug bomb it because they will not stop bugging me about it. So I'm trying to wax it and put 7 on it. Ran vista originally. Can I use the OEM key from Vista as a legit win7 key? I know for either vista or 7 they made the keys also work for the successor version because of the metric shitton of bitching but I can't remember which.

If you want to upgrade to 7, you need a 7 upgrade key.

The only substantial difference is features (which are nice, but aren't critical).
So, if I want to ground a case, but I won't have a direct power connection to anything directly touching it, how can I do that? Would a wire from the ground pin on the Front Panel Connector to the case work? Does it have to come from the power supply? Apparently, the weird capacitive switch in the Cube doesn't work properly unless the entire top panel is grounded, which it normally would be since the motherboard screws into it. I need to find a way to ground that panel or the switch without screwing the motherboard into the frame. Everything else about the switch is actually pretty standard, though, and I can get a pretty close approximation of the original functionality by connecting the wires directly to the front panel header. The biggest issue is case-ground, and I'm not really sure how to do that. There is a two-pin power connector on the NUC, though. Could I take ground from that?
I wanna get back into Minecraft again with a couple close friends of mine. But I really do not want to taint my nice new computer with the travesty that is known as Java. But I really wanna playyyyyyy Aside from disabling it in my browser completely, is there anything else I can do to make it as secure as humanly possible without being overly detrimental to my experience with the game?
Really? That's all? :v: Well, okay then. Thank you.
When it comes to data plans on phones, what does it mean by gigabytes? Like if a data plan if 5 GB, does that mean I can only browse the internet until I've reached 5 GB worth of webpages? If so, how much internet browsing could I do? Spend all afternoon watching Youtube videos and posting on Facepunch? Barely have enough data to check an email?

Most browsers won't run the Java plugin until you explicitly tell it to now. Even Java itself will ask you if your sure if you want to run it. I wouldn't be worried about it. If your going post-paid (on contract usually), you are guaranteed to pay for 5 GB, but if you go over, you get charged $X for each additional GB to your bill. For prepaid, I'm not sure since I've never had data with prepaid. I imagine they cut you off if you use it all, or at least, severely limit your bandwidth. Web browsing usage will vary. It depends on how image and video heavy it is. Facepunch can use very little data (with most usage coming from avatars which you only load once anyway), but it would probably use a lot if you were browsing LMAO pics or something. Fairly long videos, like 20-30 minutes can use a couple hundred MB at 480p (don't bother with HD).
Guys I still haven't fixed it. My GTX 660 freezes mid game and stops responding. I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers and tried everything I've seen off google but to no avail. It's actually got even more frequent and my frame rates dropped
My plan is shared with four other people, 3GB in all. We've never gone over, and we do use our phones pretty heavily.
Any way to shut Windows Desktop Window Manager up? Every time I focus Hammer's 3D view, or move Dolphin over to my second monitor I will either get prompted or it disables desktop composition. [T]http://upl.kittehcat.org/2014-11-07_19-55-37.jpg[/T] My second monitor is connected to the motherboard's output, so it's driven by my A10-6800K. Should this be solved by slapping more RAM against the APU? [editline]7th November 2014[/editline] Oh for the record, this also happens on the stock Aero theme.
Is there much difference between the MSI X99S SLI PLUS and Gigabyte GA-X99-Gaming 5 motherboards? Not sure if I should spend a little extra for the Gigabyte one

Any place to pick up at least 2 GB (maximum 4GB) DDR2 RAM for cheap? I've been looking on eBay, but I can't be arsed to place a bid, I rather want to be able to buy it instantly. Right now I'm running the same desktop server in the closet, and I want to add more RAM to it to run a Minecraft server on it or whatever else, but I'm running too low for that. What's a good and cheap indoor TV antenna I could buy so I can get OTA television?
What's a good and cheap indoor TV antenna I could buy so I can get OTA television?
Depends on the terrain in your area and the distance from the transmitters and their transmit power. If you're in an urban or suburban area that's flat and has a lot of transmitters within 20 miles, just about any antenna will do. In more rural and mountainous area, you may need a larger antenna that mounts to the top of your house. Use this if your unsure about transmitter locations. I think monoprice has some decent cheap ones. Depends on your exact situation and needs though, as Demache said.
okay I'm completely baffled at what's going on I tried to play arma 3 online, noticed I had >3000 ping, but absolutely no network traffic going on apart from irc and teamspeak I pinged google.com and got >1000 average every time however when torrents are switched on it drops to <200 average this seems completely backwards to me, any ideas on what's happening?
last night I smelled hot plastic from my psu. looking around inside it I'm not seeing any damaged capacitors or anything, however it was considerably dusty. Could the smell just be that it overheated or is it more likely that it's failing?
Looking at upgrading from the Surface Pro original to the Surface Pro 3, how much would you say the dents on the back would impact the resell price of it? The device works fine, and there is no damage on the front faceing sides (ie the screen / cameras). Literally just the back bit has dents on it - No idea how they even appeared. [img_thumb]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/44896033/surfacepro.jpg[/img_thumb] The 128gb version seems to average around £320 for pre owned. Any ideas what I could get with the damage? --- Related to the surface pro 3, what is the battery life like? Im assuming alot better then the original, Can I put it to sleep over night and come back with minimal battery impact (ie 1 - 2% lost)?
So the little rubber feet on my laptop keep falling off because the glue has worn away. This blocks some of the vents, so I want to get them re-attached. What's the preferred sort of glue for this? Bear in mind that one of them blocks a screw I need occasional access to, so I'm thinking stuff like hot glue is a Bad Idea.
do you have any of your motherboards network software installed? examples such as asus network software or asrock xfast shit
I just redownloaded and tried installing. Driver software was installed, some turbo LAN thing refuses to install. torrents off: on: this is dumb

The stuff peels off plastics pretty easily, so I'd use that.

Is there a quick way to switch between Nvidia surround and a multiple monitors? I really like using surround (Even if it's not quite the full horizontal resolution...), though every time I disable it, two of my three monitors are turned off and I have to manually go into the Nvidia control panel to enable and position them. It's not the end of the world, though it would be nice if I didn't have to reconfigure my monitors if I just wanted to do a few laps in Assetto Corsa or something.
A GtX 970 would bottleneck with these specs, wouldn't it? My new rig is half-way done, Just need to processor and SSD, then I'll be done. AMD Phenom II X4 955 4.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 669MH M4A785T-M (AM3)
